(ב"ר פכ"ב ו') הלא אם תטיב שאת (בראשית ד ז) ברכה, ואם לא תטיב שאת קללה. נראה דדריש שאת לכאן ולכאן, והכי קאמר אם תטיב יהיה לך שא"ת היינו ברכה, וכן אם לא תטיב יהיה לך שאת הוא קללה, ולפתח חטאת רובץ הוא ענין בפני עצמו. וכן לפי הדבר אחר כך הוא פירושו:

אשריו לאד"ם שהוא גבוה מפשעיו וכו', ר"ל שהוא גבור יותר מהפשעים, כי על ידי הפשעים שעשה כבר נבראים מקטריגים ומסיתים אותו יותר, וזהו עבירה גוררת עבירה (אבות פ"ד מ"ב), ואשרי לאדם שמתגבר עליהם ועושה תשובה על הראשונות, תוכחת מוסר להתגבר על הפשעים ולעשות תשובה לפני הש"י על כל מה שחטא מעודו עד היום, ואחר כך עיין:

היצר הרע דומה תחלה לאורח ובקל תוכל לדחותו, ולבסוף נעשה כבעל הבית וקשה מאוד לדחותו, ואף על פי כן אין לך דבר שעומד בפני התשובה (ירושלמי פאה פ"א ה"א), ועיין עוד:

ובשעה שהוא רואה אדם ממשמש בעיניו מתקן בשערו וכו' הולך אחר תענוגים, מיד היצר הרע שורה עליו ומדיחו ח"ו מדרכי התורה, עיין עוד:

אם רואה אדם היצר מתגבר עליו, ידחפהו בדברי תורה. אם עשית כן מעלה אני עליך כאלו בראת את השלום, כיון שאין היצר הרע מקטרג ליצר טוב הרי שלום בעולם:
