רבי שמעון אומר ג' כתרים הם. כתר תורה כתר כהונה [וכתר מלכות] וכתר שם טוב עולה על גביהן. כתר תורה זה כתרו של משה שנאמר זכרו תורת משה עבדי אשר וגו' (מלאכי ג' כ"ב). כתר כהונה זה כתרו של אהרן שאי אפשר ליגע בו שנאמר ברית מלח עולם היא לפני ה' (במדבר י"ח י"ט). כתר מלכות זה כתרו של דוד שנאמר הלא לכם לדעת כי ה' אלהי ישראל נתן (המלוכה) [ממלכה] לדוד (דה"י י"ג ה'). כתר שם טוב עולה על גביהן. כל מי שזכה לתורה יבא ויטלנה. אהרן לא זכה לכהונה אלא בזכות התורה שנאמר כי שפתי כהן ישמרו דעת ותורה יבקשו מפיהו (מלאכי ב' ז'). דוד לא זכה למלכות אלא בזכות התורה שנאמר זאת היתה לי כי פקודיך נצרתי (תהלים קי"ט נ"ו):

Ten portions of silliness are in the world; nine are with the Babylonians, and one is with the [rest of the] world. Ten portions of poverty are in the world; nine are in Lydia, and one is in the [rest of the] world. Ten portions of strength are in the world; nine are in Judah, and one is in the [rest of the] world.
