אמר הבעל שם טוב זללה"ה שמה שאמרו חכמינו ז"ל (במשנה אבות פ"ג) ומצודה פרוסה על כל החיים, פרוסה הוא מלשון פרס, כמו (אבות פרק א') על מנת לקבל פרס, ופירוש פרס מלשון פרנסה, וזהו מצודה של פרנסה הוא על כל חי, שמבקש פרנסתו ונטרד מאוד, ואין לבו פנוי לעבודת ה':

The net of *parnasa* is spread over the entire world. Everyone is so preoccupied with making a living that no one has the time to think about serving G‑d.
