###### Daniel 10:1

בִּשְׁנַ֣ת שָׁל֗וֹשׁ לְכ֙וֹרֶשׁ֙ מֶ֣לֶךְ פָּרַ֔ס דָּבָר֙ נִגְלָ֣ה לְדָֽנִיֵּ֔אל אֲשֶׁר־נִקְרָ֥א שְׁמ֖וֹ בֵּלְטְאשַׁצַּ֑ר וֶאֱמֶ֤ת הַדָּבָר֙ וְצָבָ֣א גָד֔וֹל וּבִין֙ אֶת־הַדָּבָ֔ר וּבִ֥ינָה ל֖וֹ בַּמַּרְאֶֽה׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
In the third year of Koresh king of Paras a thing was revealed to Daniyyel, whose name was called Belteshażżar; and the word was true, and for a long period ahead; and he understood the thing, and had understanding of the vision.

In the third year of Koresh, king of Paras, a thing was revealed to Daniel, who was called Belshazzar. And the thing is true, and in a long time [(it will materialize)]. And to understand the thing [(the vision was revealed to me)], to understand it through the vision.


###### Daniel 10:2

בַּיָּמִ֖ים הָהֵ֑ם אֲנִ֤י דָֽנִיֵּאל֙ הָיִ֣יתִי מִתְאַבֵּ֔ל שְׁלֹשָׁ֥ה שָׁבֻעִ֖ים יָמִֽים׃

In those days I Daniyyel was mourning three full weeks.

In those days, I, Daniel, was in mourning [(over the cessation of the rebuilding of the Temple, viz. Ezra 4:24)], twenty-one years.


###### Daniel 10:3

לֶ֣חֶם חֲמֻד֞וֹת לֹ֣א אָכַ֗לְתִּי וּבָשָׂ֥ר וָיַ֛יִן לֹא־בָ֥א אֶל־פִּ֖י וְס֣וֹךְ לֹא־סָ֑כְתִּי עַד־מְלֹ֕את שְׁלֹ֥שֶׁת שָׁבֻעִ֖ים יָמִֽים׃{פ}

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
I ate no pleasant bread, nor did meat or wine come into my mouth, nor did I anoint myself at all, till three whole weeks were fulfilled.

Clean bread I did not eat, and meat and wine did not enter my mouth, and I did not anoint myself until the completion of twenty-three years.

And on the twenty fourth day of the first month, as I was by the side of the great river, which is Ḥiddeqel;

I lifted up my eyes, and looked, and behold a certain man clothed in linen, whose loins were girded with fine gold of Ufaz:

###### Daniel 10:6

וּגְוִיָּת֣וֹ כְתַרְשִׁ֗ישׁ וּפָנָ֞יו כְּמַרְאֵ֤ה בָרָק֙ וְעֵינָיו֙ כְּלַפִּ֣ידֵי אֵ֔שׁ וּזְרֹֽעֹתָיו֙ וּמַרְגְּלֹתָ֔יו כְּעֵ֖ין נְחֹ֣שֶׁת קָלָ֑ל וְק֥וֹל דְּבָרָ֖יו כְּק֥וֹל הָמֽוֹן׃

his body also was like the beryl, and his face like the appearance of lightning, and his eyes like torches of fire, and his arms and his feet in colour like burnished brass, and the sound of his words like the voice of a multitude.

###### Daniel 10:7

וְרָאִ֩יתִי֩ אֲנִ֨י דָנִיֵּ֤אל לְבַדִּי֙ אֶת־הַמַּרְאָ֔ה וְהָאֲנָשִׁים֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר הָי֣וּ עִמִּ֔י לֹ֥א רָא֖וּ אֶת־הַמַּרְאָ֑ה אֲבָ֗ל חֲרָדָ֤ה גְדֹלָה֙ נָפְלָ֣ה עֲלֵיהֶ֔ם וַֽיִּבְרְח֖וּ בְּהֵחָבֵֽא׃

And I Daniyyel alone saw the vision: for the men who were with me did not see the vision; but a great trembling fell upon them, so that they fled to hide themselves.

And I saw — I, Daniel, alone — the vision. And the men who were with me [(Chananiah, Mishael, and Azaryah)] did not see the vision; but a great fear fell upon them and they fled to hiding.

וַאֲנִי֙ נִשְׁאַ֣רְתִּי לְבַדִּ֔י וָֽאֶרְאֶ֗ה אֶת־הַמַּרְאָ֤ה הַגְּדֹלָה֙ הַזֹּ֔את וְלֹ֥א נִשְׁאַר־בִּ֖י כֹּ֑חַ וְהוֹדִ֗י נֶהְפַּ֤ךְ עָלַי֙ לְמַשְׁחִ֔ית וְלֹ֥א עָצַ֖רְתִּי כֹּֽחַ׃

So I was left alone, and saw this great vision, and there remained no strength in me: for my comely appearance was horribly changed, and I retained no strength.

And I remained alone, and I saw this great vision, and no strength remained in me, and my beauty turned to ruin, and I could not summon strength.

וָאֶשְׁמַ֖ע אֶת־ק֣וֹל דְּבָרָ֑יו וּכְשׇׁמְעִי֙ אֶת־ק֣וֹל דְּבָרָ֔יו וַאֲנִ֗י הָיִ֛יתִי נִרְדָּ֥ם עַל־פָּנַ֖י וּפָנַ֥י אָֽרְצָה׃

Yet I heard the sound of his words: and when I heard the voice of his words, I was in a deep sleep on my face, and my face towards the ground.

And, behold, a hand touched me, which set me trembling on my knees and on the palms of my hands.

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֵלַ֡י דָּנִיֵּ֣אל אִישׁ־חֲ֠מֻד֠וֹת הָבֵ֨ן בַּדְּבָרִ֜ים אֲשֶׁר֩ אָנֹכִ֨י דֹבֵ֤ר אֵלֶ֙יךָ֙ וַעֲמֹ֣ד עַל־עׇמְדֶ֔ךָ כִּ֥י עַתָּ֖ה שֻׁלַּ֣חְתִּי אֵלֶ֑יךָ וּבְדַבְּר֥וֹ עִמִּ֛י אֶת־הַדָּבָ֥ר הַזֶּ֖ה עָמַ֥דְתִּי מַרְעִֽיד׃

And he said to me, O Daniyyel, thou man greatly beloved, understand the words that I speak to thee, and stand upright: for to thee am I now sent. And when he had spoken this word to me, I stood trembling.

And he said to me: Daniel, man of purity, understand the things that I speak to you and stand in your place, for I have now been sent to you [by G-d]. And when he spoke this thing to me, I stood up trembling.

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֵלַי֮ אַל־תִּירָ֣א דָנִיֵּאל֒ כִּ֣י**׀** מִן־הַיּ֣וֹם הָרִאשׁ֗וֹן אֲשֶׁ֨ר נָתַ֧תָּ אֶֽת־לִבְּךָ֛ לְהָבִ֧ין וּלְהִתְעַנּ֛וֹת לִפְנֵ֥י אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ נִשְׁמְע֣וּ דְבָרֶ֑יךָ וַאֲנִי־בָ֖אתִי בִּדְבָרֶֽיךָ׃

Then said he to me, Fear not, Daniyyel: for from the first day that thou didst set thy heart to understand and to humble thyself before thy God, thy words were heard, and I am come because of thy words.

And he said to me: Do not fear, Daniel. For from the first day that you set your heart upon understanding and fasting before your G-d, your words have been heard [and accepted], and I have come [(on this embassy)] because of your words.


###### Daniel 10:13

וְשַׂ֣ר**׀** מַלְכ֣וּת פָּרַ֗ס עֹמֵ֤ד לְנֶגְדִּי֙ עֶשְׂרִ֣ים וְאֶחָ֣ד י֔וֹם וְהִנֵּ֣ה מִֽיכָאֵ֗ל אַחַ֛ד הַשָּׂרִ֥ים הָרִאשֹׁנִ֖ים בָּ֣א לְעׇזְרֵ֑נִי וַאֲנִי֙ נוֹתַ֣רְתִּי שָׁ֔ם אֵ֖צֶל מַלְכֵ֥י פָרָֽס׃

But the guardian angel of the kingdom of Paras withstood me twenty one days: but, lo, Mikha᾽el, one of the chief angels, came to help me; and I remained there with the kings of Paras.

And the prince [(the tutelary angel)] of the kingdom of Paras stood against me for twenty-one days [(seeking to extend the reign of Paras over Israel)], and, behold, Michael, one of the foremost princes, came to my aid, and I remained there against the kings of Paras [(to silence the heavenly prince of Paras)].


###### Daniel 10:14

וּבָ֙אתִי֙ לַהֲבִ֣ינְךָ֔ אֵ֛ת אֲשֶׁר־יִקְרָ֥ה לְעַמְּךָ֖ בְּאַחֲרִ֣ית הַיָּמִ֑ים כִּי־ע֥וֹד חָז֖וֹן לַיָּמִֽים׃

Now I am come to make thee understand what shall befall thy people in the latter days: for the vision is for days yet to come.

And I have come to make you understand what will transpire with your people in the end of days, for there is yet a vision [(to tell you what you have not yet been told, and it will materialize)] within the [many] days [foretold for the appointed time].

And when he had spoken such words to me, I set my face towards the ground, and I became dumb.

וְהִנֵּ֗ה כִּדְמוּת֙ בְּנֵ֣י אָדָ֔ם נֹגֵ֖עַ עַל־שְׂפָתָ֑י וָאֶפְתַּח־פִּ֗י וָאֲדַבְּרָה֙ וָאֹֽמְרָה֙ אֶל־הָעֹמֵ֣ד לְנֶגְדִּ֔י אֲדֹנִ֗י בַּמַּרְאָה֙ נֶהֶפְכ֤וּ צִירַי֙ עָלַ֔י וְלֹ֥א עָצַ֖רְתִּי כֹּֽחַ׃

And, behold, one in the likeness of the sons of men touched my lips: then I opened my mouth, and spoke, and said to him that stood before me, O my lord, by reason of the vision my pains have come upon me, and I retain no strength.

And, behold, a human likeness touching my lips. And I opened my mouth and spoke, and I said to the one [(the angel)] standing before me: My lord, in the vision, my limb-tips overturned upon me, and I could not summon up strength.

וְהֵ֣יךְ יוּכַ֗ל עֶ֤בֶד אֲדֹנִי֙ זֶ֔ה לְדַבֵּ֖ר עִם־אֲדֹ֣נִי זֶ֑ה וַאֲנִ֤י מֵעַ֙תָּה֙ לֹֽא־יַעֲמׇד־בִּ֣י כֹ֔חַ וּנְשָׁמָ֖ה לֹ֥א נִשְׁאֲרָה־בִֽי׃

For how can the servant of my lord talk with this my lord? for as for me, there remains now no strength in me, nor is there breath left in me.

And how could [I,] the servant of this, my lord [i.e., you,] speak with this, my lord, when [even] now [(when you have assumed human form)] no strength remains in me and my soul is not left in me!

וַיֹּ֜אמֶר אַל־תִּירָ֧א אִישׁ־חֲמֻד֛וֹת שָׁל֥וֹם לָ֖ךְ חֲזַ֣ק וַחֲזָ֑ק וּֽכְדַבְּר֤וֹ עִמִּי֙ הִתְחַזַּ֔קְתִּי וָאֹ֥מְרָ֛ה יְדַבֵּ֥ר אֲדֹנִ֖י כִּ֥י חִזַּקְתָּֽנִי׃

and said, O man greatly beloved, fear not: peace be unto thee, be strong, and be resolute. And when he had spoken to me, I was strengthened, and said, Let my lord speak; for thou hast strengthened me.

And he said: Do not fear, man of purity — Peace unto you! Strengthen and strengthen yourself! And when he spoke with me, I strengthened myself, and I said: Let my lord speak, for you have strengthened me.

וַיֹּ֗אמֶר הֲיָדַ֙עְתָּ֙ לָמָּה־בָּ֣אתִי אֵלֶ֔יךָ וְעַתָּ֣ה אָשׁ֔וּב לְהִלָּחֵ֖ם עִם־שַׂ֣ר פָּרָ֑ס וַאֲנִ֣י יוֹצֵ֔א וְהִנֵּ֥ה שַׂר־יָוָ֖ן בָּֽא׃

Then he said to me, Dost thou know why I have come to thee? But now I will return to fight with the guardian angel of Paras: and when I depart from him, lo, the guardian angel of Yavan shall come.

And he said: [Now] do you know why I have come to you? And now, I shall return to war against the prince of Paras [and I shall prevail], but I shall leave [(when the time for the reign of Antiochus arrives)], and, behold, the prince of Greece shall come [(and the subjugation of Israel by Greece will be far more severe than their subjugation by Paras had been)].

אֲבָל֙ אַגִּ֣יד לְךָ֔ אֶת־הָרָשׁ֥וּם בִּכְתָ֖ב אֱמֶ֑ת וְאֵ֨ין אֶחָ֜ד מִתְחַזֵּ֤ק עִמִּי֙ עַל־אֵ֔לֶּה כִּ֥י אִם־מִיכָאֵ֖ל שַׂרְכֶֽם׃{פ}

But I will tell thee that which is inscribed in the true record: and none stands fast with me against these, except your guardian angel, Mikha᾽el.

But I shall tell you what is written in the [irrevocable] writing of truth. And no one [(among all the heavenly princes)] strengthened himself with me against these except Michael, your prince.
