###### Deuteronomy 14:1

בָּנִ֣ים אַתֶּ֔ם לַיהֹוָ֖ה אֱלֹהֵיכֶ֑ם לֹ֣א תִתְגֹּֽדְד֗וּ וְלֹֽא־תָשִׂ֧ימוּ קׇרְחָ֛ה בֵּ֥ין עֵינֵיכֶ֖ם לָמֵֽת׃

You are sons to Adonoy, your God; do not lacerate yourselves and do not make yourselves bald between your eyes for a dead person.

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
You are the children of the Lord your God: you shall not gash yourselves, nor make any baldness between your eyes for the dead.

**The Rashi chumash by Rabbi Shraga Silverstein:**
Children are you to the L-rd your G-d. Do not lacerate yourselves [as the Emorites do (for you are children of the L-rd, and it befits you to be comely and not lacerated and bald)], and do not make baldness between your eyes [opposite the forehead (see Leviticus 21:5)] for the dead.

For you are a sacred people to Adonoy, your God, and Adonoy has chosen you to be for Him a treasured people from all the peoples who are on the surface of the earth.

וְכׇל־בְּהֵמָ֞ה מַפְרֶ֣סֶת פַּרְסָ֗ה וְשֹׁסַ֤עַת שֶׁ֙סַע֙ שְׁתֵּ֣י פְרָס֔וֹת מַעֲלַ֥ת גֵּרָ֖ה בַּבְּהֵמָ֑ה אֹתָ֖הּ תֹּאכֵֽלוּ׃

And every animal whose sole is cloven, whose hoof is truly split in two, regurgitating [its] cud within the animals, it may you eat.

And every beast that parts the hoof, forming thereby two entirely cloven hoofs, and chews the cud among the beasts, that may you eat.

And every beast that has split hooves, entirely cloven in two [(for there are those whose hooves are split but not entirely cloven)], and which chews the cud in the beast [(The implication is that what is found in the beast after slaughtering, i.e., a fetus, may be eaten without slaughtering)] — it shall you eat, [(but not an unclean beast (a positive commandment being superadded to the negative, in which instance the transgressor is liable for violation of both a positive and a negative commandment (See 20)].

אַ֣ךְ אֶת־זֶ֞ה לֹ֤א תֹֽאכְלוּ֙ מִמַּֽעֲלֵ֣י הַגֵּרָ֔ה וּמִמַּפְרִיסֵ֥י הַפַּרְסָ֖ה הַשְּׁסוּעָ֑ה אֶֽת־הַ֠גָּמָ֠ל וְאֶת־הָאַרְנֶ֨בֶת וְאֶת־הַשָּׁפָ֜ן כִּֽי־מַעֲלֵ֧ה גֵרָ֣ה הֵ֗מָּה וּפַרְסָה֙ לֹ֣א הִפְרִ֔יסוּ טְמֵאִ֥ים הֵ֖ם לָכֶֽם׃

These, however, do not eat from the regurgitators of cud and from the cloven-soled : the dromedary, the camel, and the hare and the hyrax; for regurgitators of cud are they, but have no cloven sole; they are ritually unclean for you.

Nevertheless these you shall not eat of those which chew the cud, or of those which divide the cloven hoof; the camel, and the hare, and the coney: for they chew the cud, but do not divide the hoof; therefore they are unclean to you.

Only this may you not eat of those which chew the cud and of those which have cloven hooves: the shesuah [a creature with two backs and two spines], the camel, the hare, and the coney, for they chew the cud but do not have cloven hooves. They are unclean to you. [The enumeration is repeated though given previously (Leviticus 11) — the beasts, because of the shesuah; and the birds, because of the ra'ah (13), both of which are not mentioned there.]

Also the pig, because it is cloven-soled but does not [regurgitate its] cud; it is ritually unclean for you. From their flesh do not eat, and do not come in contact with their carcasses.

You must surely tithe all the produce of your planting, that your field yields on a yearly basis.

You shall eat in the presence of Adonoy, your God, in the place He chooses to house His Presence there—the tithe of your grain, your wine, and your olive oil, and the firstborn of your cattle and flocks; in order that you learn to fear Adonoy, your God, all the years.

If the journey will be beyond you; if you will be unable to carry it because the place is distant for you where Adonoy, your God, chooses to set His Presence there, for Adonoy, your God, has blessed you—

The rule is in accordance with the particular, viz.: Just as the particular is: one fruit from another, originating from the earth (including animals, which derive their sustenance from the earth), so, everything of this nature (is purchasable with ma'aser money (Eruvin 27b)].
