###### Deuteronomy 7:1

כִּ֤י יְבִֽיאֲךָ֙ יְהֹוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ אֶל־הָאָ֕רֶץ אֲשֶׁר־אַתָּ֥ה בָא־שָׁ֖מָּה לְרִשְׁתָּ֑הּ וְנָשַׁ֣ל גּֽוֹיִם־רַבִּ֣ים׀מִפָּנֶ֡יךָ הַֽחִתִּי֩ וְהַגִּרְגָּשִׁ֨י וְהָאֱמֹרִ֜י וְהַכְּנַעֲנִ֣י וְהַפְּרִזִּ֗י וְהַֽחִוִּי֙ וְהַיְבוּסִ֔י שִׁבְעָ֣ה גוֹיִ֔ם רַבִּ֥ים וַעֲצוּמִ֖ים מִמֶּֽךָּ׃

When Adonoy, your God, brings you into the land that you are coming there to inherit, He will cast out many nations from before you—the Chittites, the Girgashites and the Emorites, the Canaanites and the Perizites, the Chivites and the Yevusites—seven nations more numerous and more powerful than you.

When the Lord thy God shall bring thee to the land into which thou goest to possess it, and shall cast out many nations before thee, the Ḥitti, and the Girgashi, and the Emori, and the Kena῾ani, and the Perizzi, and the Ḥivvi, and the Yevusi, seven nations greater and mightier than thou;

###### Deuteronomy 7:2

וּנְתָנָ֞ם יְהֹוָ֧ה אֱלֹהֶ֛יךָ לְפָנֶ֖יךָ וְהִכִּיתָ֑ם הַחֲרֵ֤ם תַּחֲרִים֙ אֹתָ֔ם לֹא־תִכְרֹ֥ת לָהֶ֛ם בְּרִ֖ית וְלֹ֥א תְחׇנֵּֽם׃

**Metsudah Chumash, Metsudah Publications, 2009:**
Adonoy, your God, will defeat them before you, and you will smite them. You must surely annihilate them. Do not make a treaty with them, and do not favor them.

and when the Lord thy God shall deliver them before thee, and thou shalt smite them, then thou shalt devote them to utter destruction; thou shalt make no covenant with them, nor show mercy to them:

And the L-rd your G-d delivers them before you and you smite them — lay them waste. You shall not make a covenant with them and you shall not grant them grace [(It is forbidden to say: "How beautiful is this heathen!")].


###### Deuteronomy 7:3

וְלֹ֥א תִתְחַתֵּ֖ן בָּ֑ם בִּתְּךָ֙ לֹא־תִתֵּ֣ן לִבְנ֔וֹ וּבִתּ֖וֹ לֹא־תִקַּ֥ח לִבְנֶֽךָ׃

Do not marry them; do not give your daughter to his son, nor take his daughter for your son.

neither shalt thou make marriages with them; thy daughter thou shalt not give to his son, nor shalt thou take his daughter to thy son.

And you shall not intermarry with them: Your daughter you shall not give to his son, and his daughter you shall not take for your son.


###### Deuteronomy 7:4

כִּֽי־יָסִ֤יר אֶת־בִּנְךָ֙ מֵֽאַחֲרַ֔י וְעָבְד֖וּ אֱלֹהִ֣ים אֲחֵרִ֑ים וְחָרָ֤ה אַף־יְהֹוָה֙ בָּכֶ֔ם וְהִשְׁמִידְךָ֖ מַהֵֽר׃

**Metsudah Chumash, Metsudah Publications, 2009:**
For he will turn your son away from Me and they will serve other gods; and Adonoy’s anger will be aroused against you and He will destroy you swiftly.

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
For they will turn away thy son from following me, that they may serve other gods: so will the anger of the Lord be inflamed against you, and he will destroy thee speedily.

**The Rashi chumash by Rabbi Shraga Silverstein:**
For he [your heathen son-in-law] will turn your son [i.e., your grandson] away from Me, [(whence it is seen that your daughter's son by a gentile is called your son (but not your son's son born to a gentile woman, it not being written "For she will turn, etc.")], and they will serve other gods, and the wrath of the L-rd will burn in you, and He will destroy you quickly.


###### Deuteronomy 7:5

כִּֽי־אִם־כֹּ֤ה תַעֲשׂוּ֙ לָהֶ֔ם מִזְבְּחֹתֵיהֶ֣ם תִּתֹּ֔צוּ וּמַצֵּבֹתָ֖ם תְּשַׁבֵּ֑רוּ וַאֲשֵֽׁירֵהֶם֙ תְּגַדֵּע֔וּן וּפְסִילֵיהֶ֖ם תִּשְׂרְפ֥וּן בָּאֵֽשׁ׃

Rather, thus shall you do to them: raze their altars and smash their monuments, cut down their worship-trees and burn their statues in fire.

But thus shall you deal with them: you shall destroy their altars, and break down their images, and cut down their asherim, and burn their carved idols with fire.

But thus shall you do to them: Their [built-up] altars shall you destroy, and their monuments [of one stone] shall you break, and their asheirah trees, [which they worship] shall you cut down, and their graven images shall you burn with fire.

כִּ֣י עַ֤ם קָדוֹשׁ֙ אַתָּ֔ה לַיהֹוָ֖ה אֱלֹהֶ֑יךָ בְּךָ֞ בָּחַ֣ר**׀** יְהֹוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֗יךָ לִהְי֥וֹת לוֹ֙ לְעַ֣ם סְגֻלָּ֔ה מִכֹּל֙ הָֽעַמִּ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֖ר עַל־פְּנֵ֥י הָאֲדָמָֽה׃

For you are a holy people to Adonoy, your God; Adonoy, your God, chose you to be for Him a treasured people from all the peoples that are on the face of the earth.

For thou art a holy people to the Lord thy God: the Lord thy God has chosen thee to be a special people to himself, above all peoples that are upon the face of the earth.

For a holy nation are you to the L-rd your G-d. In you has the L-rd your G-d chosen to be unto Him a select people of all the peoples on the face of the earth.


###### Deuteronomy 7:7

לֹ֣א מֵֽרֻבְּכֶ֞ם מִכׇּל־הָֽעַמִּ֗ים חָשַׁ֧ק יְהֹוָ֛ה בָּכֶ֖ם וַיִּבְחַ֣ר בָּכֶ֑ם כִּֽי־אַתֶּ֥ם הַמְעַ֖ט מִכׇּל־הָעַמִּֽים׃

Not because of the multitude your population beyond all peoples did Adonoy desire you and choose you; for you are the least of all the peoples.

The Lord did not set his love upon you, or choose you, because you were more in number than any people; for you were the fewest of all peoples:

Not because you are more numerous than all the peoples did the L-rd desire you and choose you, for you are the smallest of all the peoples.


###### Deuteronomy 7:8

כִּי֩ מֵאַהֲבַ֨ת יְהֹוָ֜ה אֶתְכֶ֗ם וּמִשׇּׁמְר֤וֹ אֶת־הַשְּׁבֻעָה֙ אֲשֶׁ֤ר נִשְׁבַּע֙ לַאֲבֹ֣תֵיכֶ֔ם הוֹצִ֧יא יְהֹוָ֛ה אֶתְכֶ֖ם בְּיָ֣ד חֲזָקָ֑ה וַֽיִּפְדְּךָ֙ מִבֵּ֣ית עֲבָדִ֔ים מִיַּ֖ד פַּרְעֹ֥ה מֶֽלֶךְ־מִצְרָֽיִם׃

Rather, out of Adonoy’s love for you and out of His keeping the oath that He swore to your forefathers did Adonoy take you out with a strong hand, and did He redeem you from the house of slavery, from the hand of Pharaoh, king of Egypt.

but because the Lord loved you, and because he would keep the oath which he had sworn to your fathers, has the Lord brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you out of the house of bondmen, from the hand of Par῾o king of Miżrayim.

###### Deuteronomy 7:9

וְיָ֣דַעְתָּ֔ כִּֽי־יְהֹוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ ה֣וּא הָֽאֱלֹהִ֑ים הָאֵל֙ הַֽנֶּאֱמָ֔ן שֹׁמֵ֧ר הַבְּרִ֣ית וְהַחֶ֗סֶד לְאֹהֲבָ֛יו וּלְשֹׁמְרֵ֥י מִצְוֺתָ֖ו לְאֶ֥לֶף דּֽוֹר׃

You will know that Adonoy, your God, is *the* God, the trusted Almighty, who keeps the covenant and the kindliness for those who love Him and for those who keep His commandments, for a thousand generations.

Know therefore that the Lord thy God, he is God, the faithful God, who keeps covenant and troth with those who love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations;

And you shall know that the L-rd your G-d is the god, the faithful G-d, guarding the covenant and the lovingkindness for His lovers [those who do the mitzvoth out of love], and for the keepers of His mitzvoth [out of fear] for a thousand generations, [(but for "His lovers," for "thousands" (5:10)].


###### Deuteronomy 7:10

וּמְשַׁלֵּ֧ם לְשֹׂנְאָ֛יו אֶל־פָּנָ֖יו לְהַאֲבִיד֑וֹ לֹ֤א יְאַחֵר֙ לְשֹׂ֣נְא֔וֹ אֶל־פָּנָ֖יו יְשַׁלֶּם־לֽוֹ׃

And He pays His enemy to his face to destroy him. He does not delay for His enemy—to his face does He pay him.

and repays them that hate him to their face, to destroy them: he will not be slack to him that hates him, he will repay him to his face.

And He pays His haters to his face [He pays him the recompense for his good, in his lifetime] to make him go lost [from the world to come]. He shall not delay to [pay] His hater; to his face shall He pay him.


###### Deuteronomy 7:11

וְשָׁמַרְתָּ֨ אֶת־הַמִּצְוָ֜ה וְאֶת־הַֽחֻקִּ֣ים וְאֶת־הַמִּשְׁפָּטִ֗ים אֲשֶׁ֨ר אָנֹכִ֧י מְצַוְּךָ֛ הַיּ֖וֹם לַעֲשׂוֹתָֽם׃{פ}

You are to guard the commandments and the statutes and the laws that I am commanding you today, to fulfill.

###### Deuteronomy 7:12

וְהָיָ֣ה**׀** עֵ֣קֶב תִּשְׁמְע֗וּן אֵ֤ת הַמִּשְׁפָּטִים֙ הָאֵ֔לֶּה וּשְׁמַרְתֶּ֥ם וַעֲשִׂיתֶ֖ם אֹתָ֑ם וְשָׁמַר֩ יְהֹוָ֨ה אֱלֹהֶ֜יךָ לְךָ֗ אֶֽת־הַבְּרִית֙ וְאֶת־הַחֶ֔סֶד אֲשֶׁ֥ר נִשְׁבַּ֖ע לַאֲבֹתֶֽיךָ׃

In the future, as a consequence of your heeding these laws, and your guarding and fulfilling them; Adonoy, your God, will guard for you the covenant and the kindliness that He swore to your forefathers.

Wherefore it shall come to pass, if you hearken to these judgments, and keep, and do them, that the Lord thy God shall keep unto thee the covenant and the troth which he swore to thy fathers:

And it shall be, if (ekev) you hearken to these judgments, and heed them and do them [i.e., if you observe the relatively slight mitzvoth, which men are wont to tread under their heel (ekev)], then the L-rd your G-d will keep for you [His oath re] the covenant and the lovingkindness which He swore to your fathers.

וַאֲהֵ֣בְךָ֔ וּבֵרַכְךָ֖ וְהִרְבֶּ֑ךָ וּבֵרַ֣ךְ פְּרִֽי־בִטְנְךָ֣ וּפְרִֽי־אַ֠דְמָתֶ֠ךָ דְּגָ֨נְךָ֜ וְתִירֹשְׁךָ֣ וְיִצְהָרֶ֗ךָ שְׁגַר־אֲלָפֶ֙יךָ֙ וְעַשְׁתְּרֹ֣ת צֹאנֶ֔ךָ עַ֚ל הָֽאֲדָמָ֔ה אֲשֶׁר־נִשְׁבַּ֥ע לַאֲבֹתֶ֖יךָ לָ֥תֶת לָֽךְ׃

He will love you, and bless you, and multiply you; and He will bless the fruit of your belly and the fruit of your soil—your grain, your wine, and your olive oil—the offspring of your cattle, and the herds of your sheep, upon the soil that He swore to your forefathers to give you.

###### Deuteronomy 7:14

בָּר֥וּךְ תִּֽהְיֶ֖ה מִכׇּל־הָעַמִּ֑ים לֹא־יִהְיֶ֥ה בְךָ֛ עָקָ֥ר וַֽעֲקָרָ֖ה וּבִבְהֶמְתֶּֽךָ׃

You will be blessed more than all the peoples; there will not be among you a sterile male or a barren female, nor among your animals.

Thou shalt be blessed above all peoples: there shall not be male or female barren among you, or among your cattle.

###### Deuteronomy 7:15

וְהֵסִ֧יר יְהֹוָ֛ה מִמְּךָ֖ כׇּל־חֹ֑לִי וְכׇל־מַדְוֵי֩ מִצְרַ֨יִם הָרָעִ֜ים אֲשֶׁ֣ר יָדַ֗עְתָּ לֹ֤א יְשִׂימָם֙ בָּ֔ךְ וּנְתָנָ֖ם בְּכׇל־שֹׂנְאֶֽיךָ׃

Adonoy will remove from you all illness; and all the harmful diseases of Egypt that you know, He will not place upon you, but will give them to all your enemies.

And the Lord will take away from thee all sickness, and will put none of the evil diseases of Miżrayim, which thou knowst, upon thee; but will lay them upon all those who hate thee.

###### Deuteronomy 7:16

וְאָכַלְתָּ֣ אֶת־כׇּל־הָֽעַמִּ֗ים אֲשֶׁ֨ר יְהֹוָ֤ה אֱלֹהֶ֙יךָ֙ נֹתֵ֣ן לָ֔ךְ לֹא־תָח֥וֹס עֵֽינְךָ֖ עֲלֵיהֶ֑ם וְלֹ֤א תַעֲבֹד֙ אֶת־אֱלֹ֣הֵיהֶ֔ם כִּֽי־מוֹקֵ֥שׁ ה֖וּא לָֽךְ׃{ס}

You will consume all the peoples that Adonoy, your God, is giving you; do not take pity on them. Do not serve their gods, because they are a snare for you.

And thou shalt consume all the peoples which the Lord thy God shall deliver to thee; thy eye shall have no pity upon them: neither shalt thou serve their gods; for that will be a snare to thee.

###### Deuteronomy 7:17

כִּ֤י תֹאמַר֙ בִּלְבָ֣בְךָ֔ רַבִּ֛ים הַגּוֹיִ֥ם הָאֵ֖לֶּה מִמֶּ֑נִּי אֵיכָ֥ה אוּכַ֖ל לְהוֹרִישָֽׁם׃

Perhaps you may think to yourself, ‘‘These nations are more numerous than I, how can I inherit them?’’

If thou shalt say in thy heart, These nations are more than I; how can I dispossess them?

Lest you say in your heart: (Many) more are these nations than I — How will I be able to drive them out!


###### Deuteronomy 7:18

לֹ֥א תִירָ֖א מֵהֶ֑ם זָכֹ֣ר תִּזְכֹּ֗ר אֵ֤ת אֲשֶׁר־עָשָׂה֙ יְהֹוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ לְפַרְעֹ֖ה וּלְכׇל־מִצְרָֽיִם׃

Do not fear them. Recall well what Adonoy, your God, did to Pharaoh and to all the Egyptians.

הַמַּסֹּ֨ת הַגְּדֹלֹ֜ת אֲשֶׁר־רָא֣וּ עֵינֶ֗יךָ וְהָאֹתֹ֤ת וְהַמֹּֽפְתִים֙ וְהַיָּ֤ד הַחֲזָקָה֙ וְהַזְּרֹ֣עַ הַנְּטוּיָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר הוֹצִֽאֲךָ֖ יְהֹוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֑יךָ כֵּֽן־יַעֲשֶׂ֞ה יְהֹוָ֤ה אֱלֹהֶ֙יךָ֙ לְכׇל־הָ֣עַמִּ֔ים אֲשֶׁר־אַתָּ֥ה יָרֵ֖א מִפְּנֵיהֶֽם׃

The great tests you witnessed, and the signs and the wonders and the strong hand and the extended arm with which Adonoy, your God, took you out; so will Adonoy, your God, do to all the peoples that you are afraid of.

the great trials which thy eyes saw, and the signs, and the wonders, and the mighty hand, and the stretched out arm, whereby the Lord thy God brought thee out: so shall the Lord thy God do to all the people of whom thou art afraid.

The great trials that your eyes saw, and the signs, and the wonders (see 4:34), and the strong hand [the (plague of) pestilence], and the outstretched arm [the "sword" of the plague of the first-born] wherewith the L-rd your G-d took you out. Thus shall the L-rd your G-d do to all of the peoples whom you fear.


###### Deuteronomy 7:20

וְגַם֙ אֶת־הַצִּרְעָ֔ה יְשַׁלַּ֛ח יְהֹוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ בָּ֑ם עַד־אֲבֹ֗ד הַנִּשְׁאָרִ֛ים וְהַנִּסְתָּרִ֖ים מִפָּנֶֽיךָ׃

Also the *tzir’oh* will Adonoy, your God, send against them, until the destruction of those who survive and hide from you.

Moreover the Lord thy God will send the hornet among them, until they that are left, and hide themselves from thee, be destroyed.
