**ואתא תורא** בימי ירבעם שעשה עגלים ונתעורר מחדש עון העגל ואף ה' חרה על כי תורתו עזבו, ואלהי הכר אבו. שלח נביאים וחוזים, עד מתי הוזים, דבר ה' בוזים. וזה התורא **שתא למיא**, מימי החסד אשר המשיך מרע"ה וכבה אז לנורא. ועתה ע"י ירבעם חזר הקלקול ופרח כראש משפט, ע"ד (מדרש איכה) כרפאי לישראל אמר הקב"ה באתי לרפאות את ישראל מעון העגל ונגלה עון אפרים עגליו של ירבעם, וחזר הקלקול כבתחלה. ומאז מלכות ישראל דלה, מדור לדור זלה, כמעט קט כלה. מושל בבל בזדונו, הוא וכל המונו. שחתו ציון וארמונו, הרגו עם חלך, שרפו מקדש מלך, ותהי נציב מלח. וישראל לבבל ירדו, נעו גם נדו, בין אויבים עמדו, עד העיר ה' רוח כורש וארתחשסתא ויתנו רשות לעזרא הסופר לפאר את בית ה' בירושלם, ואז השתדל עזרא להעביר היצה"ר, כמאז"ל ע"פ (נחמיה ט׳:ד׳-ה׳) ויקם על מעלה כו' ויזעקו בקול גדול אל ה' אלהיהם מאי אמור בייא בייא היינו האי דאחרבי' לבי מקדשא וקלייה להיכלא וקטלינהו לצדיקייא ואגלינהו לישראל מן ארעהון ועדיין קא מרקד ביננא כלום יהביתיה ניהלן אלא לקבולי ביה אגרא לא איהו בעינן ולא אגרא בעינן,

And humiliate the word of God? This is the ox -
From a time of grace Moses managed to quench the fire
And now because of Jeroboam, the failure returned
And it flared up like great injustice.
From then on the nation of Israel grew weaker
From generation to generation she wasted away
Until there was almost nothing left of her.
The King of Babylon in his insolence,
He has his multitude
Corrupted Zion and its monarchy.
They killed the nation of Your strength
They burned the Sanctuary of the King
Until it was nothing but a pillar of salt.
Israel went down to Babylon
They wandered about homeless
They dwelled among their enemies
Until there arose the spirit of Cyrus who
Gave permission to Ezra the Scribe
To build a beautiful Temple in Jerusalem
Ezra tried to rid them of the evil inclination
“On a raised platform stood the Levites….
 and cried out in a loud voice…”
