וַיְהִ֖י בִּימֵ֣י אֲחַשְׁוֵר֑וֹשׁ ה֣וּא אֲחַשְׁוֵר֗וֹשׁ הַמֹּלֵךְ֙ מֵהֹ֣דּוּ וְעַד־כּ֔וּשׁ שֶׁ֛בַע וְעֶשְׂרִ֥ים וּמֵאָ֖ה מְדִינָֽה׃

**The Metsudah Five Megillot, Lakewood, N.J., 2001:**
It was in the days of Achashverosh—this was the Achashverosh who reigned from Hodu to Cush—one hundred and twenty-seven colonies.

Now it came to pass in the days of Aĥashverosh, (this is Aĥashverosh who reigned, from Hoddu as far as Kush, a hundred and twenty seven provinces:)

And it was in the days of Achashverosh [(a king of Paras, who ruled under Koresh at the end of seventy years of the Babylonian exile)]; he is Achashverosh [i.e., he persists in his evil from beginning to end]. He rules [(in his own right, not being of the royal seed)] from Hodu to Kush, one hundred and twenty-seven provinces [i.e., just as he reigned (with "tight" authority) from Hodu to Kush, which were right next to each other, so he ruled over one hundred and twenty-seven provinces.)]

In those days, when king Achashverosh had established himself on his imperial throne, in the capital city of Shushan.

In the third year of his reign, he tendered a feast for all his ministers and servants, the forces of Persia and Media, the nobles and the colonial ministers, in his presence.

Where he exhibited the affluence and eminence of his kingdom, the glory and splendor of his magnificence; for many days—one hundred and eighty days.

At the completion of these days, the king tendered, for all the people present in the capital city of Shushan, from the greatest to the least significant, a feast for seven days, on the grounds of the garden in the royal orchard.

And when these days were fulfilled, the king made a feast for all the people that were present in Shushan the capital, both for great and small, seven days, in the court of the garden of the king’s palace:

ח֣וּר**׀** כַּרְפַּ֣ס וּתְכֵ֗לֶת אָחוּז֙ בְּחַבְלֵי־ב֣וּץ וְאַרְגָּמָ֔ן עַל־גְּלִ֥ילֵי כֶ֖סֶף וְעַמּ֣וּדֵי שֵׁ֑שׁ מִטּ֣וֹת**׀** זָהָ֣ב וָכֶ֗סֶף עַ֛ל רִֽצְפַ֥ת בַּהַט־וָשֵׁ֖שׁ וְדַ֥ר וְסֹחָֽרֶת׃

[There were] pure white drapes, fine woolen cushions, bluish emerald *techeiles* wool, brocaded with strands of linen and mauve, woolen *argaman* threads, over silver columns and marble pillars; gold and silver couches on a floor inlaid with rare gems and marble, set in parallel circular patterns.

there were hangings of white, of fine cotton, and blue, fastened with cords of fine linen and purple on silver rods and pillars of marble: the divans were of gold and silver, upon a pavement of alabaster, marble, pearl and precious stone.

Chur, carpas, and tcheleth [(types of colored vestments)] embroidered with cords of fine linen and purple, [he spread] on rods of silver and pillars of marble. [(For seating at the feast, he set up)] divans of gold and silver on paving of bahat, shesh, dar, and sochareth [(costly stones)].

וְהַשְׁקוֹת֙ בִּכְלֵ֣י זָהָ֔ב וְכֵלִ֖ים מִכֵּלִ֣ים שׁוֹנִ֑ים וְיֵ֥ין מַלְכ֛וּת רָ֖ב כְּיַ֥ד הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃

As for drinking; golden utensils, other sundry vessels, and plenty of royal wine, with majestic largesse.

And they gave them drink in vessels of gold, (the vessels being diverse from one another,) and royal wine in abundance, according to the king’s bounty.

And the drinking was in vessels of gold, and in vessels of different kinds, and royal wine in abundance, according to the (lavish) hand of the king.

וְהַשְּׁתִיָּ֥ה כַדָּ֖ת אֵ֣ין אֹנֵ֑ס כִּי־כֵ֣ן**׀** יִסַּ֣ד הַמֶּ֗לֶךְ עַ֚ל כׇּל־רַ֣ב בֵּית֔וֹ לַעֲשׂ֖וֹת כִּרְצ֥וֹן אִישׁ־וָאִֽישׁ׃

The drinking was proper, with no coercion; for the king had so basically instructed all his palace officials—to satisfy each individual’s desire.

And the drinking was according to the law; none did compel: for so the king had appointed to all the officers of his house, that they should do according to every man’s pleasure.

And the drinking was according to [each man's] practice; there was no constraint. For thus had the king ordained for every head [of staff] (in) his house, to do according to the will of each man.

Queen Vashti, as well, tendered a feast for women, at king Achashverosh’s palace.

Also Vashti the queen made a feast for the women, in the royal house which belonged to king Aĥashverosh.

Also Vashti the queen made a feast for the women in the royal quarters of King Achashverosh.

On the seventh day, when the king was exhilarated by drink, he instructed Mehuman, Bizesa, Charvona, Bigsa, Avagsa, Zeisar, and Charkas, the seven servants who attended King Achashverosh’s person—

On the seventh day, when the heart of the king was merry with wine, he commanded Mehuman, Bizzeta, Ḥarvona, Bigta, and Avagta, Zetar, and Karkas, the seven chamberlains who served in the presence of Aĥashverosh the king,

to present Queen Vashti before the king [clad] in the royal crown, to flaunt her beauty before the nations and the ministers, for she was of beautiful appearance.

to bring Vashti the queen before the king with the crown royal, to show the people and the princes her beauty: for she was fair to look on.

To bring Vashti, the queen, before the king, with the crown of kingdom, to show the peoples and the princes her beauty (for she was of a beautiful appearance).

Queen Vashti refused to attend as ordered by the king through the servants—and the king was extremely angered, his fury consumed him.

But the queen Vashti refused to come at the king’s commandment by his chamberlains: therefore the king was very wrathful, and his anger burned in him.

And Queen Vashti refused to come at the word of the king by the eunuchs. And the king was extremely wroth, and his wrath burned in him.

The king consulted the sages who were well versed in the affairs of the times, for the king would thus place matters before all who were versed in procedural and legal concerns.

Then the king said to the wise men, who knew the times, (for so was the king’s manner toward all that knew law and judgment:

Most intimately associated with him, were Karshena, Sheisar, Admasa, Sarshish, Meres, Marsena, and Memuchan, the seven ministers of Persia and Media who were in personal contact with the king, and who occupied the highest seats of power in the kingdom.

and the next to him was Karshena, Shetar, Admata, Tarshish, Meres, Marsena, and Memukhan, the seven princes of Paras and Maday, who saw the king’s face, and who sat the first in the kingdom;)

and the closest to him [(in taking counsel)]: Carshena, Shethar, Admatha, Tarshish, Meres, Marsena, Memuchan, the seven princes of Paras and Madai, who attended upon the king, who sat first in the kingdom —

Concerning the proper procedure to follow with Queen Vashti, since she did not do as directed by King Achashverosh through the servants.

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
What shall we do to the queen Vashti according to law, because she has not performed the bidding of the king Aĥashverosh by the chamberlains?

by ordinance, what to do with Queen Vashti for not doing the bidding of the king by the eunuchs.

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר (מומכן) [מְמוּכָ֗ן] לִפְנֵ֤י הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ וְהַשָּׂרִ֔ים לֹ֤א עַל־הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ לְבַדּ֔וֹ עָוְתָ֖ה וַשְׁתִּ֣י הַמַּלְכָּ֑ה כִּ֤י עַל־כׇּל־הַשָּׂרִים֙ וְעַל־כׇּל־הָ֣עַמִּ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֕ר בְּכׇל־מְדִינ֖וֹת הַמֶּ֥לֶךְ אֲחַשְׁוֵרֽוֹשׁ׃

Memuchan spoke before the king and the ministers: “It is not only his majesty that Vashti has aggrieved, but all the ministers and all the peoples in all of King Achashverosh’s colonies.

And Memukhan answered before the king and the princes, Vashti the queen has not done wrong to the king only, but also to all the princes, and to all the peoples who are in all the provinces of the king Aĥashverosh.

And Memuchan said before the king and the princes: Not against the king alone did Vashti sin, but against all the princes and all the peoples which are in all the land of King Achashverosh.

כִּֽי־יֵצֵ֤א דְבַר־הַמַּלְכָּה֙ עַל־כׇּל־הַנָּשִׁ֔ים לְהַבְז֥וֹת בַּעְלֵיהֶ֖ן בְּעֵינֵיהֶ֑ן בְּאׇמְרָ֗ם הַמֶּ֣לֶךְ אֲחַשְׁוֵר֡וֹשׁ אָמַ֞ר לְהָבִ֨יא אֶת־וַשְׁתִּ֧י הַמַּלְכָּ֛ה לְפָנָ֖יו וְלֹא־בָֽאָה׃

For the affair of the queen will extend to all women, so that they will disparage their husbands, saying, ‘King Achashverosh commanded that Queen Vashti be brought before him, but she never came!’

For this deed of the queen will be made known to all the women, so as to make their husbands contemptible in their eyes, when it shall be reported that the king Aĥashverosh commanded Vashti the queen to be brought in before him, but she came not.

For the act of the queen [(in defying the king)] shall go forth to all the women to demean their husbands in their eyes, saying: King Achashverosh bade that Vashti, the queen, be brought before him, and she would not come.

For this deed of the queen will be made known to all the women, so as to make their husbands contemptible in their 👁️, when it shall be reported that the king 🤴🏽 commanded 🙅🏽‍♀️ the queen to be brought in before him, but she came not.
