Tomorrow I shall stand upon the top of the hill with the staff of G-d in my hand.

###### Exodus 17:11
[Exodus 17:11](https://torahapp.org/share/book/Exodus/r/17:11)

###### Exodus 17:12
[Exodus 17:12](https://torahapp.org/share/book/Exodus/r/17:12)

**Metsudah Chumash, Metsudah Publications, 2009:**
Moshe’s hands became heavy. They took a stone and placed it under him and he sat upon it. Aharon and Chur supported his hands, one of them on one side and one on the other side. His hands remained an expression of faith [as he prayed] until sunset.

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
But Moshe’s hands were heavy; and they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat on it; and Aharon and Ḥur supported his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun.

**The Rashi chumash by Rabbi Shraga Silverstein:**
And the hands of Moses became heavy [because he was lax in the mitzvah and deputed it to another (Joshua)], and they [Aaron and Chur] took a stone [(but not a pillow)] and placed it beneath him [(Moses associating himself with Israel's suffering)], and he sat on it. And Aaron and Chur supported his hands — one on one side, one on the other. And he was [i.e., he persisted with] his hands [spread out in an attitude of] steadfastness [in prayer] until the sun set. [The Amalekites would determine "propitious hours" for victory astrologically, and Moses caused the sun to stand still, thus confounding their reckonings.]

###### Exodus 17:13
[Exodus 17:13](https://torahapp.org/share/book/Exodus/r/17:13)

וַיַּחֲלֹ֧שׁ יְהוֹשֻׁ֛עַ אֶת־עֲמָלֵ֥ק וְאֶת־עַמּ֖וֹ לְפִי־חָֽרֶב׃{פ}

###### Exodus 17:14
[Exodus 17:14](https://torahapp.org/share/book/Exodus/r/17:14)

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
And the Lord said to Moshe, Write this for a memorial in a book, and rehearse it in the ears of Yehoshua: that I will utterly blot out the remembrance of ῾Amaleq from under the heaven.

**The Rashi chumash by Rabbi Shraga Silverstein:**
And the L-rd said to Moses: Write this as a remembrance in the book [(that Amalek initiated war with Israel before all other nations], and place it in the ears of Joshua [who will bring Israel into the land, that he command Israel to give Amalek his due recompense (a hint to Moses that Joshua and not he will bring them into Eretz Yisrael)] because I desire to blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under the heavens, [for which reason I exhort you thus].

**The Rashi chumash by Rabbi Shraga Silverstein:**
And he said: For [the] hand [of the L-rd is raised to swear] by the throne [kes (as opposed to the complete form, kissei)] of Kah (the L-rd) [(as opposed to the complete name, Yod-Keh-Vav-Keh)]: "The L-rd is at war with Amalek from generation to generation" [The import: G-d's name will not be complete and His throne will not be complete until the name of Amalek is blotted out.]
