## Ezekiel Chapter 31

###### Ezekiel 31:1

וַיְהִ֗י בְּאַחַ֤ת עֶשְׂרֵה֙ שָׁנָ֔ה בַּשְּׁלִישִׁ֖י בְּאֶחָ֣ד לַחֹ֑דֶשׁ הָיָ֥ה דְבַר־יְהֹוָ֖ה אֵלַ֥י לֵאמֹֽר׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
And it came to pass in the eleventh year, in the third month, on the first day of the month, that the word of the Lord came to me, saying,


###### Ezekiel 31:2

בֶּן־אָדָ֕ם אֱמֹ֛ר אֶל־פַּרְעֹ֥ה מֶלֶךְ־מִצְרַ֖יִם וְאֶל־הֲמוֹנ֑וֹ אֶל־מִ֖י דָּמִ֥יתָ בְגׇדְלֶֽךָ׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Son of man, speak to Par῾o king of Miżrayim, and to his multitude; Whom art thou like in thy greatness?


###### Ezekiel 31:3

הִנֵּ֨ה אַשּׁ֜וּר אֶ֣רֶז בַּלְּבָנ֗וֹן יְפֵ֥ה עָנָ֛ף וְחֹ֥רֶשׁ מֵצַ֖ל וּגְבַ֣הּ קוֹמָ֑ה וּבֵ֣ין עֲבֹתִ֔ים הָיְתָ֖ה צַמַּרְתּֽוֹ׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Behold, Ashshur was a cedar in the Levanon with fair branches, amid a shadowing forest, and of a high stature; and its top was among the thick boughs.


###### Ezekiel 31:4

מַ֣יִם גִּדְּל֔וּהוּ תְּה֖וֹם רֹמְמָ֑תְהוּ אֶת־נַהֲרֹתֶ֗יהָ הֹלֵךְ֙ סְבִיב֣וֹת מַטָּעָ֔הּ וְאֶת־תְּעָלֹתֶ֣יהָ שִׁלְחָ֔ה אֶ֖ל כׇּל־עֲצֵ֥י הַשָּׂדֶֽה׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
The waters made it great, the deep set it up on high, with her rivers running round about her plants, and she sent out her little canals to all the trees of the field.

עַל־כֵּן֙ גָּבְהָ֣א קֹמָת֔וֹ מִכֹּ֖ל עֲצֵ֣י הַשָּׂדֶ֑ה וַתִּרְבֶּ֨ינָה סַֽרְעַפֹּתָ֜יו וַתֶּאֱרַ֧כְנָה פֹארֹתָ֛ו מִמַּ֥יִם רַבִּ֖ים בְּשַׁלְּחֽוֹ׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Therefore its height was exalted above all the trees of the field, and its boughs were multiplied, and its branches became long because of the multitude of waters, when it shot them forth.


###### Ezekiel 31:6

בִּסְעַפֹּתָ֤יו קִֽנְנוּ֙ כׇּל־ע֣וֹף הַשָּׁמַ֔יִם וְתַ֤חַת פֹּֽארֹתָיו֙ יָֽלְד֔וּ כֹּ֖ל חַיַּ֣ת הַשָּׂדֶ֑ה וּבְצִלּוֹ֙ יֵֽשְׁב֔וּ כֹּ֖ל גּוֹיִ֥ם רַבִּֽים׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
All the birds of the sky made their nests in its boughs, and under its branches all the beasts of the field brought forth their young, and under its shadow all great nations dwelt.


###### Ezekiel 31:7

וַיְּיִ֣ף בְּגׇדְל֔וֹ בְּאֹ֖רֶךְ דָּלִיּוֹתָ֑יו כִּֽי־הָיָ֥ה שׇׁרְשׁ֖וֹ אֶל־מַ֥יִם רַבִּֽים׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Thus was it fair in its greatness, in the length of its branches: for its root was by many waters.


###### Ezekiel 31:8

אֲרָזִ֣ים לֹֽא־עֲמָמֻ֘הוּ֮ בְּגַן־אֱלֹהִים֒ בְּרוֹשִׁ֗ים לֹ֤א דָמוּ֙ אֶל־סְעַפֹּתָ֔יו וְעַרְמֹנִ֥ים לֹא־הָי֖וּ כְּפֹרֹאתָ֑יו כׇּל־עֵץ֙ בְּגַן־אֱלֹהִ֔ים לֹא־דָמָ֥ה אֵלָ֖יו בְּיׇפְיֽוֹ׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
The cedars in the garden of God could not obscure it: the cypress trees were not like its boughs, and the plane trees were not like its branches; nor did any tree in the garden of God compare with it in beauty.

יָפֶ֣ה עֲשִׂיתִ֔יו בְּרֹ֖ב דָּלִיּוֹתָ֑יו וַיְקַנְאֻ֙הוּ֙ כׇּל־עֲצֵי־עֵ֔דֶן אֲשֶׁ֖ר בְּגַ֥ן הָאֱלֹהִֽים׃{פ}

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
I have made it fair by the multitude of its branches: so that all the trees of ῾Eden, that were in the garden of God, envied him.


###### Ezekiel 31:10

לָכֵ֗ן כֹּ֤ה אָמַר֙ אֲדֹנָ֣י יֱהֹוִ֔ה יַ֕עַן אֲשֶׁ֥ר גָּבַ֖הְתָּ בְּקוֹמָ֑ה וַיִּתֵּ֤ן צַמַּרְתּוֹ֙ אֶל־בֵּ֣ין עֲבוֹתִ֔ים וְרָ֥ם לְבָב֖וֹ בְּגׇבְהֽוֹ׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Therefore thus says the Lord God; Because thou hast lifted up thyself in height, and he has shot up his top among the thick boughs, and his heart is lifted up in his height;


###### Ezekiel 31:11

וְאֶ֨תְּנֵ֔הוּ בְּיַ֖ד אֵ֣יל גּוֹיִ֑ם עָשׂ֤וֹ יַֽעֲשֶׂה֙ ל֔וֹ כְּרִשְׁע֖וֹ גֵּרַשְׁתִּֽהוּ׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
I have therefore delivered him into the hand of the mighty one of the nations; he shall surely deal with him: I have driven him out for his wickedness.


###### Ezekiel 31:12

וַיִּכְרְתֻ֧הוּ זָרִ֛ים עָרִיצֵ֥י גוֹיִ֖ם וַֽיִּטְּשֻׁ֑הוּ אֶל־הֶ֠הָרִ֠ים וּבְכׇל־גֵּ֨אָי֜וֹת נָפְל֣וּ דָלִיּוֹתָ֗יו וַתִּשָּׁבַ֤רְנָה פֹֽרֹאתָיו֙ בְּכֹל֙ אֲפִיקֵ֣י הָאָ֔רֶץ וַיֵּרְד֧וּ מִצִּלּ֛וֹ כׇּל־עַמֵּ֥י הָאָ֖רֶץ וַֽיִּטְּשֻֽׁהוּ׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
And strangers, the terrible of the nations, have cut him off, and have left him: upon the mountains and in all the valleys his branches are fallen, and his boughs were broken by all the water courses of the land; and all the peoples of the earth are gone down from his shadow, and have left him.


###### Ezekiel 31:13

עַל־מַפַּלְתּ֥וֹ יִשְׁכְּנ֖וּ כׇּל־ע֣וֹף הַשָּׁמָ֑יִם וְאֶל־פֹּרֹאתָ֣יו הָי֔וּ כֹּ֖ל חַיַּ֥ת הַשָּׂדֶֽה׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Upon his ruin shall dwell all the birds of the sky, and all the beasts of the field shall be upon his branches:


###### Ezekiel 31:14

לְמַ֡עַן אֲשֶׁר֩ לֹא־יִגְבְּה֨וּ בְקוֹמָתָ֜ם כׇּל־עֲצֵי־מַ֗יִם וְלֹֽא־יִתְּנ֤וּ אֶת־צַמַּרְתָּם֙ אֶל־בֵּ֣ין עֲבֹתִ֔ים וְלֹֽא־יַעַמְד֧וּ אֵלֵיהֶ֛ם בְּגׇבְהָ֖ם כׇּל־שֹׁ֣תֵי מָ֑יִם כִּֽי־כֻלָּם֩ נִתְּנ֨וּ לַמָּ֜וֶת אֶל־אֶ֣רֶץ תַּחְתִּ֗ית בְּת֛וֹךְ בְּנֵ֥י אָדָ֖ם אֶל־י֥וֹרְדֵי בֽוֹר׃{פ}

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
so that none of all the trees by the waters exalt themselves in their height, nor shoot up their top among the thick boughs, and that their trunks do not tower on high, all that drink water: for they are all delivered to death, to the nether parts of the earth, in the midst of the children of men, with them that go down to the pit.

כֹּֽה־אָמַ֞ר אֲדֹנָ֣י יֱהֹוִ֗ה בְּי֨וֹם רִדְתּ֤וֹ שְׁא֙וֹלָה֙ הֶאֱבַ֜לְתִּי כִּסֵּ֤תִי עָלָיו֙ אֶת־תְּה֔וֹם וָֽאֶמְנַע֙ נַהֲרוֹתֶ֔יהָ וַיִּכָּלְא֖וּ מַ֣יִם רַבִּ֑ים וָאַקְדִּ֤ר עָלָיו֙ לְבָנ֔וֹן וְכׇל־עֲצֵ֥י הַשָּׂדֶ֖ה עָלָ֥יו עֻלְפֶּֽה׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Thus says the Lord God; In the day when he went down to She᾽ol I caused the deep to mourn, to cover itself for him, I restrained the floods thereof, and the great waters were stayed: and I wrapped Levanon in gloom for him, and all the trees of the field fainted for him.

מִקּ֤וֹל מַפַּלְתּוֹ֙ הִרְעַ֣שְׁתִּי גוֹיִ֔ם בְּהוֹרִדִ֥י אֹת֛וֹ שְׁא֖וֹלָה אֶת־י֣וֹרְדֵי ב֑וֹר וַיִּנָּ֨חֲמ֜וּ בְּאֶ֤רֶץ תַּחְתִּית֙ כׇּל־עֲצֵי־עֵ֔דֶן מִבְחַ֥ר וְטוֹב־לְבָנ֖וֹן כׇּל־שֹׁ֥תֵי מָֽיִם׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
I made the nations shake at the sound of his fall, when I cast him down to She᾽ol with them that descend into the pit: and all the trees of ῾Eden, the choice and best of Levanon, all that drink water were comforted in the nether parts of the earth.


###### Ezekiel 31:17

גַּם־הֵ֗ם אִתּ֛וֹ יָרְד֥וּ שְׁא֖וֹלָה אֶל־חַלְלֵי־חָ֑רֶב וּזְרֹע֛וֹ יָשְׁב֥וּ בְצִלּ֖וֹ בְּת֥וֹךְ גּוֹיִֽם׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
They also went down into She᾽ol with him, to them that are slain with the sword; and they that were his arm, that dwelt under his shadow in the midst of nations.

אֶל־מִ֨י דָמִ֥יתָ כָּ֛כָה בְּכָב֥וֹד וּבְגֹ֖דֶל בַּעֲצֵי־עֵ֑דֶן וְהוּרַדְתָּ֨ אֶת־עֲצֵי־עֵ֜דֶן אֶל־אֶ֣רֶץ תַּחְתִּ֗ית בְּת֨וֹךְ עֲרֵלִ֤ים תִּשְׁכַּב֙ אֶת־חַלְלֵי־חֶ֔רֶב ה֤וּא פַרְעֹה֙ וְכׇל־הֲמוֹנֹ֔ה נְאֻ֖ם אֲדֹנָ֥י יֱהֹוִֽה׃{פ}

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
To whom art thou thus like in glory and in greatness among the trees of ῾Eden? yet shalt thou be brought down with the trees of ῾Eden to the nether parts of the earth: thou shalt lie in the midst of the uncircumcised, with them that are slain by the sword. This is Par῾o and all his multitude, says the Lord God.
