## I Samuel Chapter 29

###### I Samuel 29:1

וַיִּקְבְּצ֧וּ פְלִשְׁתִּ֛ים אֶת־כׇּל־מַחֲנֵיהֶ֖ם אֲפֵ֑קָה וְיִשְׂרָאֵ֣ל חֹנִ֔ים בַּעַ֖יִן אֲשֶׁ֥ר בְּיִזְרְעֶֽאל׃

The Philistines gathered together all their camps at Aiphek; Yisroel was camped at the spring that is in Yizre'el.


###### I Samuel 29:2

וְסַרְנֵ֤י פְלִשְׁתִּים֙ עֹֽבְרִ֔ים לְמֵא֖וֹת וְלַאֲלָפִ֑ים וְדָוִ֣ד וַאֲנָשָׁ֗יו עֹ֥בְרִ֛ים בָּאַחֲרֹנָ֖ה עִם־אָכִֽישׁ׃

The Philistine governors crossed over with hundreds and thousands, and Dovid and his men crossed over last, with Achish.

וַיֹּֽאמְרוּ֙ שָׂרֵ֣י פְלִשְׁתִּ֔ים מָ֖ה הָעִבְרִ֣ים הָאֵ֑לֶּה וַיֹּ֨אמֶר אָכִ֜ישׁ אֶל־שָׂרֵ֣י פְלִשְׁתִּ֗ים הֲלוֹא־זֶ֨ה דָוִ֜ד עֶ֣בֶד**׀** שָׁא֣וּל מֶלֶךְ־יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל אֲשֶׁ֨ר הָיָ֤ה אִתִּי֙ זֶ֤ה יָמִים֙ אוֹ־זֶ֣ה שָׁנִ֔ים וְלֹֽא־מָצָ֤אתִי בוֹ֙ מְא֔וּמָה מִיּ֥וֹם נׇפְל֖וֹ עַד־הַיּ֥וֹם הַזֶּֽה׃{פ}

The Philistine officers said, "Who are these Hebrews?" And Achish replied to the Philistine officers, "Why, this is Dovid, the servant of Shaul, king of Yisroel, who has been with me for these days or these years, and I have found no fault with him, from the day he settled [with me] to this day."

וַיִּקְצְפ֨וּ עָלָ֜יו שָׂרֵ֣י פְלִשְׁתִּ֗ים וַיֹּ֣אמְרוּ לוֹ֩ שָׂרֵ֨י פְלִשְׁתִּ֜ים הָשֵׁ֣ב אֶת־הָאִ֗ישׁ וְיָשֹׁב֙ אֶל־מְקוֹמוֹ֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר הִפְקַדְתּ֣וֹ שָׁ֔ם וְלֹא־יֵרֵ֤ד עִמָּ֙נוּ֙ בַּמִּלְחָמָ֔ה וְלֹא־יִֽהְיֶה־לָּ֥נוּ לְשָׂטָ֖ן בַּמִּלְחָמָ֑ה וּבַמֶּ֗ה יִתְרַצֶּ֥ה זֶה֙ אֶל־אֲדֹנָ֔יו הֲל֕וֹא בְּרָאשֵׁ֖י הָאֲנָשִׁ֥ים הָהֵֽם׃

But the Philistine officers were angry with him, and the Philistine officers said to him, "Send back the man, and let him return to his place that you assigned to him. Let him not go down with us to battle, so that he not be an adversary to us in the battle. How can this [person] prove his loyalty to his master? Is it not with the heads of those [Philistine] men?

הֲלוֹא־זֶ֣ה דָוִ֔ד אֲשֶׁ֧ר יַעֲנוּ־ל֛וֹ בַּמְּחֹל֖וֹת לֵאמֹ֑ר הִכָּ֤ה שָׁאוּל֙ בַּאֲלָפָ֔יו וְדָוִ֖ד בְּרִבְבֹתָֽו׃{ס}

Is this not Dovid, of whom they sing, accompanied with musical instruments, saying, 'Shaul has slain his thousands, and Dovid his tens of thousands'?"


###### I Samuel 29:6

וַיִּקְרָ֨א אָכִ֜ישׁ אֶל־דָּוִ֗ד וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֵ֠לָ֠יו חַי־יְהֹוָ֞ה כִּֽי־יָשָׁ֣ר אַתָּ֗ה וְט֣וֹב בְּ֠עֵינַ֠י צֵאתְךָ֨ וּבֹאֲךָ֤ אִתִּי֙ בַּֽמַּחֲנֶ֔ה כִּ֠י לֹֽא־מָצָ֤אתִֽי בְךָ֙ רָעָ֔ה מִיּ֛וֹם בֹּאֲךָ֥ אֵלַ֖י עַד־הַיּ֣וֹם הַזֶּ֑ה וּבְעֵינֵ֥י הַסְּרָנִ֖ים לֹא־ט֥וֹב אָֽתָּה׃

So Achish called Dovid and said to him, "As Adonoy lives, you are upright, and it is fine with me—your going out and coming back with me in the camp, for I have found no evil in you from the day you came to me until this day; but in the eyes of the governors you are not good.


###### I Samuel 29:7

וְעַתָּ֥ה שׁ֖וּב וְלֵ֣ךְ בְּשָׁל֑וֹם וְלֹא־תַעֲשֶׂ֣ה רָ֔ע בְּעֵינֵ֖י סַרְנֵ֥י פְלִשְׁתִּֽים׃{ס}

Return, therefore, and go in peace, and do nothing that is evil in the eyes of the Philistine governors."

וַיֹּ֨אמֶר דָּוִ֜ד אֶל־אָכִ֗ישׁ כִּ֣י מֶ֤ה עָשִׂ֙יתִי֙ וּמַה־מָּצָ֣אתָ בְעַבְדְּךָ֔ מִיּוֹם֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר הָיִ֣יתִי לְפָנֶ֔יךָ עַ֖ד הַיּ֣וֹם הַזֶּ֑ה כִּ֣י לֹ֤א אָבוֹא֙ וְנִלְחַ֔מְתִּי בְּאֹיְבֵ֖י אֲדֹנִ֥י הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃

Dovid then said to Achish, "But what have I done? What have you found in your servant from the day I have been before you to this day, that I should not come and fight against the enemies of my master the king?"


###### I Samuel 29:9

וַיַּ֣עַן אָכִישׁ֮ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֶל־דָּוִד֒ יָדַ֕עְתִּי כִּ֣י ט֥וֹב אַתָּ֛ה בְּעֵינַ֖י כְּמַלְאַ֣ךְ אֱלֹהִ֑ים אַ֣ךְ שָׂרֵ֤י פְלִשְׁתִּים֙ אָֽמְר֔וּ לֹא־יַעֲלֶ֥ה עִמָּ֖נוּ בַּמִּלְחָמָֽה׃

Achish answered, and said to Dovid, "I know, you are good in my eyes as an angel of God; but the Philistine officers have said, 'He shall not go up with us into battle.'


###### I Samuel 29:10

וְעַתָּה֙ הַשְׁכֵּ֣ם בַּבֹּ֔קֶר וְעַבְדֵ֥י אֲדֹנֶ֖יךָ אֲשֶׁר־בָּ֣אוּ אִתָּ֑ךְ וְהִשְׁכַּמְתֶּ֣ם בַּבֹּ֔קֶר וְא֥וֹר לָכֶ֖ם וָלֵֽכוּ׃

So now, rise early in the morning together with the servants of your master who have come with you; rise early in the morning, and when you have light, go."

וַיַּשְׁכֵּ֨ם דָּוִ֜ד ה֤וּא וַאֲנָשָׁיו֙ לָלֶ֣כֶת בַּבֹּ֔קֶר לָשׁ֖וּב אֶל־אֶ֣רֶץ פְּלִשְׁתִּ֑ים וּפְלִשְׁתִּ֖ים עָל֥וּ יִזְרְעֶֽאל׃{ס}

Dovid and his men rose early, to leave in the morning, to return to the land of the Philistines, while the Philistines went up towards Yizre'el.
