וַיִּסְפֹּ֨ר שְׁלֹמֹ֜ה שִׁבְעִ֥ים אֶ֙לֶף֙ אִ֣ישׁ סַבָּ֔ל וּשְׁמוֹנִ֥ים אֶ֛לֶף אִ֖ישׁ חֹצֵ֣ב בָּהָ֑ר וּמְנַצְּחִ֣ים עֲלֵיהֶ֔ם שְׁלֹ֥שֶׁת אֲלָפִ֖ים וְשֵׁ֥שׁ מֵאֽוֹת׃{פ}

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
And Shelomo counted seventy thousand men to carry burdens, and eighty thousand to hew in the mountain, and three thousand six hundred to oversee them.

And Solomon counted seventy thousand porters [(to bring stones from the mountain to the city)] and eighty thousand hewers in the mountain [(all of them, "drag-along" proselytes [viz. 16])], and, overseeing them, six thousand and six hundred.

And Shelomo sent to Ḥuram the king of Żor, saying, As thou didst deal with David my father, and didst send him cedars to build him a house to dwell in, even so deal with me.

הִנֵּה֩ אֲנִ֨י בוֹנֶה־בַּ֜יִת לְשֵׁ֣ם**׀** יְהֹוָ֣ה אֱלֹהָ֗י לְהַקְדִּ֣ישׁ ל֡וֹ לְהַקְטִ֣יר לְפָנָ֣יו קְטֹֽרֶת־סַמִּים֩ וּמַעֲרֶ֨כֶת תָּמִ֤יד וְעֹלוֹת֙ לַבֹּ֣קֶר וְלָעֶ֔רֶב לַשַּׁבָּתוֹת֙ וְלֶ֣חֳדָשִׁ֔ים וּֽלְמוֹעֲדֵ֖י יְהֹוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֵ֑ינוּ לְעוֹלָ֖ם זֹ֥את עַל־יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

Behold, I build a house to the name of the Lord my God, to dedicate it to him, and to burn before him sweet incense, and for the continual showbread, and for the burnt offerings morning and evening, on the sabbaths, and on the new moons, and on the appointed seasons of the Lord our God. This is an ordinance for ever to Yisra᾽el.

Behold, I am building a house for the name of the L rd my G d to devote to Him, to burn before Him spice incense and [to set before Him] perpetual showbread and [to sacrifice to Him] burnt-offerings morning and evening, for Sabbaths, for New Moons, and for the festivals of the L rd our G d, this forever [(binding)] upon Israel.

וְהַבַּ֛יִת אֲשֶׁר־אֲנִ֥י בוֹנֶ֖ה גָּד֑וֹל כִּֽי־גָד֥וֹל אֱלֹהֵ֖ינוּ מִכׇּל־הָאֱלֹהִֽים׃

And the house which I build is great: for great is our God above all gods.

וּמִ֤י יַֽעֲצׇר־כֹּ֙חַ֙ לִבְנֽוֹת־ל֣וֹ בַ֔יִת כִּ֧י הַשָּׁמַ֛יִם וּשְׁמֵ֥י הַשָּׁמַ֖יִם לֹ֣א יְכַלְכְּלֻ֑הוּ וּמִ֤י אֲנִי֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר אֶבְנֶה־לּ֣וֹ בַ֔יִת כִּ֖י אִם־לְהַקְטִ֥יר לְפָנָֽיו׃

But who is able to build him a house, seeing the heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain him? who am I then, that I should build him a house, except as a place to burn incense before him?

And who can summon up power to build Him a house? For the heavens and the heavens' heavens cannot sustain Him. And who am I to build Him a house, lest it be to offer incense before Him?

וְעַתָּ֡ה שְֽׁלַֽח־לִ֣י אִישׁ־חָכָ֡ם לַעֲשׂוֹת֩ בַּזָּהָ֨ב וּבַכֶּ֜סֶף וּבַנְּחֹ֣שֶׁת וּבַבַּרְזֶ֗ל וּבָֽאַרְגְּוָן֙ וְכַרְמִ֣יל וּתְכֵ֔לֶת וְיֹדֵ֖עַ לְפַתֵּ֣חַ פִּתּוּחִ֑ים עִם־הַחֲכָמִ֗ים אֲשֶׁ֤ר עִמִּי֙ בִּיהוּדָ֣ה וּבִירוּשָׁלַ֔͏ִם אֲשֶׁ֥ר הֵכִ֖ין דָּוִ֥יד אָבִֽי׃

Send me now therefore a man skilled for work in gold, and in silver, and in brass, and in iron, and in purple, and crimson, and blue, and who has skill to engrave with the skilful men that are with me in Yehuda and in Yerushalayim, whom David my father did provide.

And now, send me a wise man to work with gold, silver, copper, and iron, and with purple, crimson, and blue (yarn) and who knows how to make engravings [in stone, to work together] with the wise men who are with me in Judah and in Jerusalem, whom my father readied.

וּֽשְׁלַֽח־לִי֩ עֲצֵ֨י אֲרָזִ֜ים בְּרוֹשִׁ֣ים וְאַלְגּוּמִּים֮ מֵֽהַלְּבָנוֹן֒ כִּ֚י אֲנִ֣י יָדַ֔עְתִּי אֲשֶׁ֤ר עֲבָדֶ֙יךָ֙ יֽוֹדְעִ֔ים לִכְר֖וֹת עֲצֵ֣י לְבָנ֑וֹן וְהִנֵּ֥ה עֲבָדַ֖י עִם־עֲבָדֶֽיךָ׃

Send me also cedar trees, cypress trees, and algum trees, out of the Levanon: for I know that thy servants know how to cut timber in the Levanon; and, behold, my servants shall be with thy servants,

And send me cedar wood, cypress wood and sandal wood from the Levanon, for I know that your servants know how to cut the trees of Levanon, and behold, my servants (are) with your servants.

וּלְהָכִ֥ין לִ֛י עֵצִ֖ים לָרֹ֑ב כִּ֥י הַבַּ֛יִת אֲשֶׁר־אֲנִ֥י בוֹנֶ֖ה גָּד֥וֹל וְהַפְלֵֽא׃

to prepare me timber in abundance: for the house which I am about to build shall be great and wonderful.

And, behold, I will give to thy servants, the hewers who cut timber, twenty thousand measures of beaten wheat, and twenty thousand measures of barley, and twenty thousand bats of wine, and twenty thousand bats of oil.

And, behold, for the chotvim, the wood cutters, I have given abundant wheat for your servants; twenty thousand kors, and barley, twenty thousand kors, and wine, twenty thousand baths, and oil, twenty thousand baths.

וַיֹּ֨אמֶר חוּרָ֤ם מֶלֶךְ־צֹר֙ בִּכְתָ֔ב וַיִּשְׁלַ֖ח אֶל־שְׁלֹמֹ֑ה בְּאַהֲבַ֤ת יְהֹוָה֙ אֶת־עַמּ֔וֹ נְתָנְךָ֥ עֲלֵיהֶ֖ם מֶֽלֶךְ׃

Then Ḥuram the king of Żor answered in a writing, which he sent to Shelomo, Seeing that the Lord has loved his people, he has made thee king over them.

And Ḥuram said, Blessed is the Lord God of Yisra᾽el, who made heaven and earth, who has given to David the king a wise son, endued with prudence and understanding, who might build a house for the Lord, and a royal house for himself.

and we will cut wood out of the Levanon, as much as thou shalt need: and we will bring it to thee on rafts by sea to Yafo; and thou shalt carry it up to Yerushalayim.
