בֶּן־שְׁתֵּ֥ים עֶשְׂרֵ֛ה שָׁנָ֖ה מְנַשֶּׁ֣ה בְמׇלְכ֑וֹ וַחֲמִשִּׁ֤ים וְחָמֵשׁ֙ שָׁנָ֔ה מָלַ֖ךְ בִּירוּשָׁלָֽ͏ִם׃

Menashshe was twelve years old when he began to reign, and he reigned for fifty five years in Yerushalayim:

but he did that which was evil in the sight of the Lord, like the abominations of the nations, whom the Lord had cast out before the children of Yisra᾽el.

וַיָּ֗שׇׁב וַיִּ֙בֶן֙ אֶת־הַבָּמ֔וֹת אֲשֶׁ֥ר נִתַּ֖ץ יְחִזְקִיָּ֣הוּ אָבִ֑יו וַיָּ֨קֶם מִזְבְּח֤וֹת לַבְּעָלִים֙ וַיַּ֣עַשׂ אֲשֵׁר֔וֹת וַיִּשְׁתַּ֙חוּ֙ לְכׇל־צְבָ֣א הַשָּׁמַ֔יִם וַֽיַּעֲבֹ֖ד אֹתָֽם׃

For he built again the high places which Yeĥizqiyyahu his father had broken down, and he reared up altars for the Be῾alim, and made asherot, and worshipped all the host of heaven, and served them.

וְהוּא֩ הֶעֱבִ֨יר אֶת־בָּנָ֤יו בָּאֵשׁ֙ בְּגֵ֣י בֶן־הִנֹּ֔ם וְעוֹנֵ֤ן וְנִחֵשׁ֙ וְֽכִשֵּׁ֔ף וְעָ֥שָׂה א֖וֹב וְיִדְּעוֹנִ֑י הִרְבָּ֗ה לַעֲשׂ֥וֹת הָרַ֛ע בְּעֵינֵ֥י יְהֹוָ֖ה לְהַכְעִיסֽוֹ׃

And he caused his children to pass through the fire in the valley of the son of Hinnom: also he practised divination, and sorcery, and witchcraft, and dealt with mediums, and with wizards: he did much evil in the sight of the Lord, to provoke him to anger.

And he passed his sons through fire in the valley of Ben-hinnom, and onein and nichesh and kishef [viz. Deuteronomy 18:10] and dealt with ov and yidoni [viz. Leviticus 19:31]. He was profuse in doing evil in the eyes of the L rd to anger Him.

וַיָּ֕שֶׂם אֶת־פֶּ֥סֶל הַסֶּ֖מֶל אֲשֶׁ֣ר עָשָׂ֑ה בְּבֵ֣ית הָאֱלֹהִ֗ים אֲשֶׁ֨ר אָמַ֤ר אֱלֹהִים֙ אֶל־דָּוִיד֙ וְאֶל־שְׁלֹמֹ֣ה בְנ֔וֹ בַּבַּ֨יִת הַזֶּ֜ה וּבִירוּשָׁלַ֗͏ִם אֲשֶׁ֤ר בָּחַ֙רְתִּי֙ מִכֹּל֙ שִׁבְטֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל אָשִׂ֥ים אֶת־שְׁמִ֖י לְעֵילֽוֹם׃

And he set up a curved idol, the image which he had made, in the house of God, of which God had said to David and to Shelomo his son, In this house, and in Yerushalayim, which I have chosen before all the tribes of Yisra᾽el, will I put my name for ever:

וְלֹ֣א אֹסִ֗יף לְהָסִיר֙ אֶת־רֶ֣גֶל יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל מֵעַל֙ הָֽאֲדָמָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר הֶעֱמַ֖דְתִּי לַאֲבֽוֹתֵיכֶ֑ם רַ֣ק**׀** אִם־יִשְׁמְר֣וּ לַעֲשׂ֗וֹת אֵ֚ת כׇּל־אֲשֶׁ֣ר צִוִּיתִ֔ים לְכׇל־הַתּוֹרָ֛ה וְהַחֻקִּ֥ים וְהַמִּשְׁפָּטִ֖ים בְּיַד־מֹשֶֽׁה׃

nor will I remove the foot of Yisra᾽el again from out of the land which I have appointed for your fathers; if only they will take heed to do all that I have commanded them, according to the whole Tora and the statutes and the ordinances by the hand of Moshe.

וַיֶּ֣תַע מְנַשֶּׁ֔ה אֶת־יְהוּדָ֖ה וְיֹשְׁבֵ֣י יְרוּשָׁלָ֑͏ִם לַעֲשׂ֣וֹת רָ֔ע מִ֨ן־הַגּוֹיִ֔ם אֲשֶׁר֙ הִשְׁמִ֣יד יְהֹוָ֔ה מִפְּנֵ֖י בְּנֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃{פ}

So Menashshe made Yehuda and the inhabitants of Yerushalayim to go astray, and to do worse than the nations, whom the Lord had destroyed before the children of Yisra᾽el.

And the Lord spoke to Menashshe, and to his people: but they would not hearken.

וַיָּבֵ֨א יְהֹוָ֜ה עֲלֵיהֶ֗ם אֶת־שָׂרֵ֤י הַצָּבָא֙ אֲשֶׁר֙ לְמֶ֣לֶךְ אַשּׁ֔וּר וַיִּלְכְּד֥וּ אֶת־מְנַשֶּׁ֖ה בַּחֹחִ֑ים וַיַּאַסְרֻ֙הוּ֙ בַּֽנְחֻשְׁתַּ֔יִם וַיּוֹלִיכֻ֖הוּ בָּבֶֽלָה׃

So that the Lord brought upon them the captains of the host of the king of Ashshur, who took Menashshe among the thorns, and bound him with fetters, and carried him to Bavel.

And when he was in affliction, he besought the Lord his God, and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers,

And prayed to him: and he received his entreaty, and heard his supplication, and brought him back to Yerushalayim into his kingdom. Then Menashshe knew that the Lord was God.

וְאַחֲרֵי־כֵ֡ן בָּנָ֣ה חוֹמָ֣ה חִיצוֹנָ֣ה׀לְעִיר־דָּוִ֡יד מַעְרָ֩בָה֩ לְגִיח֨וֹן בַּנַּ֜חַל וְלָב֨וֹא בְשַׁ֤עַר הַדָּגִים֙ וְסָבַ֣ב לָעֹ֔פֶל וַיַּגְבִּיהֶ֖הָ מְאֹ֑ד וַיָּ֧שֶׂם שָׂרֵי־חַ֛יִל בְּכׇל־הֶעָרִ֥ים הַבְּצֻר֖וֹת בִּיהוּדָֽה׃

Now after this he built a wall outside the city of David, on the west side of Giĥon, in the wadi, to the entrance by the fish gate, and he built it round the ῾Ofel, and raised it to a very great height, and put captains of war in all the fortified cities of Yehuda.

And after that he built an outer wall for the city of David, west of Gichon in the valley as you come to the Fish Gate. And he encircled the Ophel and raised it greatly. And he placed military officers in all the fortified cities in Judah.

וַ֠יָּ֠סַר אֶת־אֱלֹהֵ֨י הַנֵּכָ֤ר וְאֶת־הַסֶּ֙מֶל֙ מִבֵּ֣ית יְהֹוָ֔ה וְכׇל־הַֽמִּזְבְּח֗וֹת אֲשֶׁ֥ר בָּנָ֛ה בְּהַ֥ר בֵּית־יְהֹוָ֖ה וּבִירוּשָׁלָ֑͏ִם וַיַּשְׁלֵ֖ךְ ח֥וּצָה לָעִֽיר׃

And he took away the strange gods, and the idol out of the house of the Lord, and all the altars that he had built in the mountain of the house of the Lord, and in Yerushalayim, and cast them out of the city.

(ויכן) [וַיִּ֙בֶן֙] אֶת־מִזְבַּ֣ח יְהֹוָ֔ה וַיִּזְבַּ֣ח עָלָ֔יו זִבְחֵ֥י שְׁלָמִ֖ים וְתוֹדָ֑ה וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ לִיהוּדָ֔ה לַעֲב֕וֹד אֶת־יְהֹוָ֖ה אֱלֹהֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

And he repaired the altar of the Lord, and sacrificed on it peace offerings and thank offerings, and commanded Yehuda to serve the Lord God of Yisra᾽el.

Nevertheless the people still sacrificed in the high places, albeit to the Lord their God only.

וּתְפִלָּת֣וֹ וְהֵעָתֶר־לוֹ֮ וְכׇל־חַטָּאת֣וֹ וּמַעְלוֹ֒ וְהַמְּקֹמ֗וֹת אֲשֶׁר֩ בָּנָ֨ה בָהֶ֤ם בָּמוֹת֙ וְהֶֽעֱמִיד֙ הָאֲשֵׁרִ֣ים וְהַפְּסִלִ֔ים לִפְנֵ֖י הִכָּֽנְע֑וֹ הִנָּ֣ם כְּתוּבִ֔ים עַ֖ל דִּבְרֵ֥י חוֹזָֽי׃

and he did not humble himself before the Lord, as Menashshe his father had humbled himself; but Amon trespassed more and more.

But the people of the land slew all those who had conspired against king Amon; and the people of the land made Yoshiyyahu his son king in his stead.
