## Isaiah Chapter 21

###### Isaiah 21:1

מַשָּׂ֖א מִדְבַּר־יָ֑ם כְּסוּפ֤וֹת בַּנֶּ֙גֶב֙ לַחֲלֹ֔ף מִמִּדְבָּ֣ר בָּ֔א מֵאֶ֖רֶץ נוֹרָאָֽה׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
The burden of the desert of the sea. As storms in the south sweep on; so it comes from the desert, from a terrible land.


###### Isaiah 21:2

חָז֥וּת קָשָׁ֖ה הֻגַּד־לִ֑י הַבּוֹגֵ֤ד׀בּוֹגֵד֙ וְהַשּׁוֹדֵ֣ד׀שׁוֹדֵ֔ד עֲלִ֤י עֵילָם֙ צוּרִ֣י מָדַ֔י כׇּל־אַנְחָתָ֖הֿ הִשְׁבַּֽתִּי׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
A grievous vision is declared to me; He who desires to be treacherous may be treacherous, and he who desires to spoil may spoil, Go up, O ῾Elam: besiege, O Maday; all its sighing have I made to cease.


###### Isaiah 21:3

עַל־כֵּ֗ן מָלְא֤וּ מׇתְנַי֙ חַלְחָלָ֔ה צִירִ֣ים אֲחָז֔וּנִי כְּצִירֵ֖י יוֹלֵדָ֑ה נַעֲוֵ֣יתִי מִשְּׁמֹ֔עַ נִבְהַ֖לְתִּי מֵרְאֽוֹת׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Therefore are my loins filled with anguish: pangs have taken hold upon me, as the pangs of a woman in travail: I was bowed down so that I could not hear; I was dismayed so that I could not see.


###### Isaiah 21:4

תָּעָ֣ה לְבָבִ֔י פַּלָּצ֖וּת בִּֽעֲתָ֑תְנִי אֵ֚ת נֶ֣שֶׁף חִשְׁקִ֔י שָׂ֥ם לִ֖י לַחֲרָדָֽה׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
My heart reeled, fearfulness affrighted me: the night of my pleasure has he turned for me into terror.


###### Isaiah 21:5

עָרֹ֧ךְ הַשֻּׁלְחָ֛ן צָפֹ֥ה הַצָּפִ֖ית אָכ֣וֹל שָׁתֹ֑ה ק֥וּמוּ הַשָּׂרִ֖ים מִשְׁח֥וּ מָגֵֽן׃{ס}

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Prepare the table, spread the carpet, eat, drink: arise, princes, and anoint the shield.


###### Isaiah 21:6

כִּ֣י כֹ֥ה אָמַ֛ר אֵלַ֖י אֲדֹנָ֑י לֵ֚ךְ הַעֲמֵ֣ד הַֽמְצַפֶּ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר יִרְאֶ֖ה יַגִּֽיד׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
For thus has the Lord said to me, Go, set a watchman, let him declare what he sees.


###### Isaiah 21:7

וְרָ֣אָה רֶ֗כֶב צֶ֚מֶד פָּרָשִׁ֔ים רֶ֥כֶב חֲמ֖וֹר רֶ֣כֶב גָּמָ֑ל וְהִקְשִׁ֥יב קֶ֖שֶׁב רַב־קָֽשֶׁב׃

And if he should see riders, pairs of horsemen, riders on asses, riders on camels; he should hearken diligently with much heed:


###### Isaiah 21:8

וַיִּקְרָ֖א אַרְיֵ֑ה עַל־מִצְפֶּ֣ה**׀** אֲדֹנָ֗י אָנֹכִ֞י עֹמֵ֤ד תָּמִיד֙ יוֹמָ֔ם וְעַ֨ל־מִשְׁמַרְתִּ֔י אָנֹכִ֥י נִצָּ֖ב כׇּל־הַלֵּילֽוֹת׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
and he cried like a lion: My Lord, I stand continually upon the watchtower in the daytime, and I stand on guard whole nights:


###### Isaiah 21:9

וְהִנֵּה־זֶ֥ה בָא֙ רֶ֣כֶב אִ֔ישׁ צֶ֖מֶד פָּרָשִׁ֑ים וַיַּ֣עַן וַיֹּ֗אמֶר נָפְלָ֤ה נָֽפְלָה֙ בָּבֶ֔ל וְכׇל־פְּסִילֵ֥י אֱלֹהֶ֖יהָ שִׁבַּ֥ר לָאָֽרֶץ׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
and, behold, here come men riding, pairs of horsemen. And he answered and said, Bavel is fallen, is fallen; and all the carved images of her gods he has broken to the ground.


###### Isaiah 21:10

מְדֻשָׁתִ֖י וּבֶן־גׇּרְנִ֑י אֲשֶׁ֣ר שָׁמַ֗עְתִּי מֵאֵ֨ת יְהֹוָ֧ה צְבָא֛וֹת אֱלֹהֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל הִגַּ֥דְתִּי לָכֶֽם׃{פ}

O my trodden one, and child of my threshing floor; that which I have heard of the Lord of hosts, the God of Yisra᾽el, have I declared to you.


###### Isaiah 21:11

מַשָּׂ֖א דּוּמָ֑ה אֵלַי֙ קֹרֵ֣א מִשֵּׂעִ֔יר שֹׁמֵר֙ מַה־מִּלַּ֔יְלָה שֹׁמֵ֖ר מַה־מִּלֵּֽיל׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
The burden of Duma. One calls to me out of Se῾ir, Watchman, what of the night? Watchman, what of the night?


###### Isaiah 21:12

אָמַ֣ר שֹׁמֵ֔ר אָתָ֥ה בֹ֖קֶר וְגַם־לָ֑יְלָה אִם־תִּבְעָי֥וּן בְּעָ֖יוּ שֻׁ֥בוּ אֵתָֽיוּ׃{פ}

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
The watchman said, The morning comes, and also the night: if you will inquire, inquire: return, come.


###### Isaiah 21:13

מַשָּׂ֖א בַּעְרָ֑ב בַּיַּ֤עַר בַּעְרַב֙ תָּלִ֔ינוּ אֹרְח֖וֹת דְּדָנִֽים׃

The burden upon ῾Arav. In the forest, in ῾Arav shall you lodge, O travelling companies of Dedanim.


###### Isaiah 21:14

לִקְרַ֥את צָמֵ֖א הֵתָ֣יוּ מָ֑יִם יֹֽשְׁבֵי֙ אֶ֣רֶץ תֵּימָ֔א בְּלַחְמ֖וֹ קִדְּמ֥וּ נֹדֵֽד׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
O inhabitants of the land of Tema, bring water to him that is thirsty, meet the fugitive with bread.


###### Isaiah 21:15

כִּֽי־מִפְּנֵ֥י חֲרָב֖וֹת נָדָ֑דוּ מִפְּנֵ֣י**׀** חֶ֣רֶב נְטוּשָׁ֗ה וּמִפְּנֵי֙ קֶ֣שֶׁת דְּרוּכָ֔ה וּמִפְּנֵ֖י כֹּ֥בֶד מִלְחָמָֽה׃{ס}

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
For they have fled from the swords, from the drawn sword, and from the bent bow, and from the grievousness of war.


###### Isaiah 21:16

כִּי־כֹ֛ה אָמַ֥ר אֲדֹנָ֖י אֵלָ֑י בְּע֤וֹד שָׁנָה֙ כִּשְׁנֵ֣י שָׂכִ֔יר וְכָלָ֖ה כׇּל־כְּב֥וֹד קֵדָֽר׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
For thus the Lord said to me, Within a year, according to the years of a hireling, and all the glory of Qedar shall fail:


###### Isaiah 21:17

וּשְׁאָ֧ר מִסְפַּר־קֶ֛שֶׁת גִּבּוֹרֵ֥י בְנֵֽי־קֵדָ֖ר יִמְעָ֑טוּ כִּ֛י יְהֹוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֵֽי־יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל דִּבֵּֽר׃{ס}

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
And the residue of the number of archers, the mighty men of the children of Qedar, shall be diminished: for the Lord God of Yisra᾽el has spoken it.
