## Isaiah Chapter 22

###### Isaiah 22:1

מַשָּׂ֖א גֵּ֣יא חִזָּי֑וֹן מַה־לָּ֣ךְ אֵפ֔וֹא כִּי־עָלִ֥ית כֻּלָּ֖ךְ לַגַּגּֽוֹת׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
The burden of Ge-ĥizzayon (the Valley of Vision.) What ails thee now, that thou art wholly gone up to the housetops?


###### Isaiah 22:2

תְּשֻׁא֣וֹת**׀** מְלֵאָ֗ה עִ֚יר הֽוֹמִיָּ֔ה קִרְיָ֖ה עַלִּיזָ֑ה חֲלָלַ֙יִךְ֙ לֹ֣א חַלְלֵי־חֶ֔רֶב וְלֹ֖א מֵתֵ֥י מִלְחָמָֽה׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Thou that art full of uproar, a tumultuous city, a joyous city: thy slain men are not slain with the sword, nor dead in battle.


###### Isaiah 22:3

כׇּל־קְצִינַ֥יִךְ נָֽדְדוּ־יַ֖חַד מִקֶּ֣שֶׁת אֻסָּ֑רוּ כׇּל־נִמְצָאַ֙יִךְ֙ אֻסְּר֣וּ יַחְדָּ֔ו מֵרָח֖וֹק בָּרָֽחוּ׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
All thy rulers are fled together, they are bound by the bowmen: all that are found in thee are bound together; they have fled from far.


###### Isaiah 22:4

עַל־כֵּ֥ן אָמַ֛רְתִּי שְׁע֥וּ מִנִּ֖י אֲמָרֵ֣ר בַּבֶּ֑כִי אַל־תָּאִ֣יצוּ לְנַֽחֲמֵ֔נִי עַל־שֹׁ֖ד בַּת־עַמִּֽי׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Therefore said I, Look away from me; I will weep bitterly, labour not to comfort me, because of the spoiling of the daughter of my people.


###### Isaiah 22:5

כִּ֣י יוֹם֩ מְהוּמָ֨ה וּמְבוּסָ֜ה וּמְבוּכָ֗ה לַֽאדֹנָ֧י יֱהֹוִ֛ה צְבָא֖וֹת בְּגֵ֣י חִזָּי֑וֹן מְקַרְקַ֥ר קִ֖ר וְשׁ֥וֹעַ אֶל־הָהָֽר׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
For it is a day of trouble, and of trampling, and of confusion by the Lord God of hosts in Ge-ĥizzayon (the Valley of Vision), a breaking down of walls and a shouting to the mountains.


###### Isaiah 22:6

וְעֵילָם֙ נָשָׂ֣א אַשְׁפָּ֔ה בְּרֶ֥כֶב אָדָ֖ם פָּרָשִׁ֑ים וְקִ֥יר עֵרָ֖ה מָגֵֽן׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
And ῾Elam bore the quiver with chariots of men and horsemen, and Qir uncovered the shield.


###### Isaiah 22:7

וַיְהִ֥י מִבְחַר־עֲמָקַ֖יִךְ מָ֣לְאוּ רָ֑כֶב וְהַפָּ֣רָשִׁ֔ים שֹׁ֖ת שָׁ֥תוּ הַשָּֽׁעְרָה׃

And it came to pass, when thy choicest valleys were full of chariots, and the horsemen set themselves in array at the gate,


###### Isaiah 22:8

וַיְגַ֕ל אֵ֖ת מָסַ֣ךְ יְהוּדָ֑ה וַתַּבֵּט֙ בַּיּ֣וֹם הַה֔וּא אֶל־נֶ֖שֶׁק בֵּ֥ית הַיָּֽעַר׃

and he stripped the covering of Yehuda, that thou didst look on that day to the armour of the house of the forest.


###### Isaiah 22:9

וְאֵ֨ת בְּקִיעֵ֧י עִיר־דָּוִ֛ד רְאִיתֶ֖ם כִּי־רָ֑בּוּ וַֽתְּקַבְּצ֔וּ אֶת־מֵ֥י הַבְּרֵכָ֖ה הַתַּחְתּוֹנָֽה׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
You saw also the breaches of the city of David, that they are many: and you gathered together the waters of the lower pool.


###### Isaiah 22:10

וְאֶת־בָּתֵּ֥י יְרוּשָׁלַ֖͏ִם סְפַרְתֶּ֑ם וַתִּתְצוּ֙ הַבָּ֣תִּ֔ים לְבַצֵּ֖ר הַחוֹמָֽה׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
And you numbered the houses of Yerushalayim, and the houses you broke down to fortify the wall.


###### Isaiah 22:11

וּמִקְוָ֣ה**׀** עֲשִׂיתֶ֗ם בֵּ֚ין הַחֹ֣מֹתַ֔יִם לְמֵ֖י הַבְּרֵכָ֣ה הַיְשָׁנָ֑ה וְלֹ֤א הִבַּטְתֶּם֙ אֶל־עֹשֶׂ֔יהָ וְיֹצְרָ֥הּ מֵרָח֖וֹק לֹ֥א רְאִיתֶֽם׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
You made also a pond between the two walls for the water of the old pool: but you did not look to him who made it, nor did you see him that fashioned it long ago.

וַיִּקְרָ֗א אֲדֹנָ֧י יֱהֹוִ֛ה צְבָא֖וֹת בַּיּ֣וֹם הַה֑וּא לִבְכִי֙ וּלְמִסְפֵּ֔ד וּלְקׇרְחָ֖ה וְלַחֲגֹ֥ר שָֽׂק׃

And on that day did the Lord God of hosts call to weeping, and to mourning, and to baldness, and to girding with sackcloth:


###### Isaiah 22:13

וְהִנֵּ֣ה**׀** שָׂשׂ֣וֹן וְשִׂמְחָ֗ה הָרֹ֤ג׀בָּקָר֙ וְשָׁחֹ֣ט צֹ֔אן אָכֹ֥ל בָּשָׂ֖ר וְשָׁת֣וֹת יָ֑יִן אָכ֣וֹל וְשָׁת֔וֹ כִּ֥י מָחָ֖ר נָמֽוּת׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
and behold joy and gladness, slaying oxen, and killing sheep, eating meat, and drinking wine: let us eat and drink; for to morrow we shall die.


###### Isaiah 22:14

וְנִגְלָ֥ה בְאׇזְנָ֖י יְהֹוָ֣ה צְבָא֑וֹת אִם־יְ֠כֻפַּ֠ר הֶעָוֺ֨ן הַזֶּ֤ה לָכֶם֙ עַד־תְּמֻת֔וּן אָמַ֛ר אֲדֹנָ֥י יֱהֹוִ֖ה צְבָאֽוֹת׃{פ}

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
And it was revealed in my ears, by the Lord of hosts: Surely this iniquity shall not be forgiven you till you die, says the Lord God of hosts.


###### Isaiah 22:15

כֹּ֥ה אָמַ֛ר אֲדֹנָ֥י יֱהֹוִ֖ה צְבָא֑וֹת לֶךְ־בֹּא֙ אֶל־הַסֹּכֵ֣ן הַזֶּ֔ה עַל־שֶׁבְנָ֖א אֲשֶׁ֥ר עַל־הַבָּֽיִת׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Thus says the Lord God of hosts, Go, get thee to this steward, to Shevna who is over the house.


###### Isaiah 22:16

מַה־לְּךָ֥ פֹה֙ וּמִ֣י לְךָ֣ פֹ֔ה כִּֽי־חָצַ֧בְתָּ לְּךָ֛ פֹּ֖ה קָ֑בֶר חֹצְבִ֤י מָרוֹם֙ קִבְר֔וֹ חֹקְקִ֥י בַסֶּ֖לַע מִשְׁכָּ֥ן לֽוֹ׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Say to him, What hast thou here? and whom hast thou here, that thou hast hewn thee out a tomb here, hewing out a tomb on high, carving a habitation for himself in a rock?


###### Isaiah 22:17

הִנֵּ֤ה יְהֹוָה֙ מְטַלְטֶלְךָ֔ טַלְטֵלָ֖ה גָּ֑בֶר וְעֹטְךָ֖ עָטֹֽה׃

Behold, the Lord will thrust thee about with a mighty throw, and will seize thee firmly.


###### Isaiah 22:18

צָנ֤וֹף יִצְנׇפְךָ֙ צְנֵפָ֔ה כַּדּ֕וּר אֶל־אֶ֖רֶץ רַחֲבַ֣ת יָדָ֑יִם שָׁ֣מָּה תָמ֗וּת וְשָׁ֙מָּה֙ מַרְכְּב֣וֹת כְּבוֹדֶ֔ךָ קְל֖וֹן בֵּ֥ית אֲדֹנֶֽיךָ׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
He will violently roll and toss thee like a ball into a large country: there shalt thou die, and there shall be the chariots of thy glory, O shame of thy master’s house.


###### Isaiah 22:19

וַהֲדַפְתִּ֖יךָ מִמַּצָּבֶ֑ךָ וּמִמַּעֲמָֽדְךָ֖ יֶהֶרְסֶֽךָ׃

And I will drive thee from thy station, and from thy state shall he pull thee down.


###### Isaiah 22:20

וְהָיָ֖ה בַּיּ֣וֹם הַה֑וּא וְקָרָ֣אתִי לְעַבְדִּ֔י לְאֶלְיָקִ֖ים בֶּן־חִלְקִיָּֽהוּ׃

And it shall come to pass on that day, that I will call my servant Elyaqim the son of Ḥilqiyyahu.


###### Isaiah 22:21

וְהִלְבַּשְׁתִּ֣יו כֻּתׇּנְתֶּ֗ךָ וְאַבְנֵֽטְךָ֙ אֲחַזְּקֶ֔נּוּ וּמֶֽמְשַׁלְתְּךָ֖ אֶתֵּ֣ן בְּיָד֑וֹ וְהָיָ֥ה לְאָ֛ב לְיוֹשֵׁ֥ב יְרוּשָׁלַ֖͏ִם וּלְבֵ֥ית יְהוּדָֽה׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
And I will clothe him with thy robe, and strengthen him with thy girdle, and I will commit thy government into his hand: and he shall be a father to the inhabitants of Yerushalayim and to the house of Yehuda.


###### Isaiah 22:22

וְנָתַתִּ֛י מַפְתֵּ֥חַ בֵּית־דָּוִ֖ד עַל־שִׁכְמ֑וֹ וּפָתַח֙ וְאֵ֣ין סֹגֵ֔ר וְסָגַ֖ר וְאֵ֥ין פֹּתֵֽחַ׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
And the key of the house of David will I lay upon his shoulder; so he shall open, and none shall shut: and he shall shut, and none shall open.


###### Isaiah 22:23

וּתְקַעְתִּ֥יו יָתֵ֖ד בְּמָק֣וֹם נֶאֱמָ֑ן וְהָיָ֛ה לְכִסֵּ֥א כָב֖וֹד לְבֵ֥ית אָבִֽיו׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
And I will fasten him as a tent peg in a sure place; and he shall be for a glorious throne to his father’s house.


###### Isaiah 22:24

וְתָל֨וּ עָלָ֜יו כֹּ֣ל**׀** כְּב֣וֹד בֵּית־אָבִ֗יו הַצֶּֽאֱצָאִים֙ וְהַצְּפִע֔וֹת כֹּ֖ל כְּלֵ֣י הַקָּטָ֑ן מִכְּלֵי֙ הָאַגָּנ֔וֹת וְעַ֖ד כׇּל־כְּלֵ֥י הַנְּבָלִֽים׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
And they shall hang upon him all the glory of his father’s house, the offspring and the issue, all vessels of small quantity, from the vessels of cups, even to all the vessels of flagons.


###### Isaiah 22:25

בַּיּ֣וֹם הַה֗וּא נְאֻם֙ יְהֹוָ֣ה צְבָא֔וֹת תָּמוּשׁ֙ הַיָּתֵ֔ד הַתְּקוּעָ֖ה בְּמָק֣וֹם נֶאֱמָ֑ן וְנִגְדְּעָ֣ה וְנָפְלָ֗ה וְנִכְרַת֙ הַמַּשָּׂ֣א אֲשֶׁר־עָלֶ֔יהָ כִּ֥י יְהֹוָ֖ה דִּבֵּֽר׃{פ}

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
On that day, says the Lord of hosts, shall the tent peg that is fastened in the sure place be removed, and be cut down, and fall; and the burden that was upon it shall be cut off: for the Lord has spoken it.
