## Isaiah Chapter 23

###### Isaiah 23:1

מַשָּׂ֖א צֹ֑ר הֵילִ֣ילוּ**׀** אֳנִיּ֣וֹת תַּרְשִׁ֗ישׁ כִּֽי־שֻׁדַּ֤ד מִבַּ֙יִת֙ מִבּ֔וֹא מֵאֶ֥רֶץ כִּתִּ֖ים נִגְלָה־לָֽמוֹ׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
The burden of Żor. Howl, O ships of Tarshish; for it is laid waste, so that there is no house, no entering in: from the land of Kittim it is revealed to them.


###### Isaiah 23:2

דֹּ֖מּוּ יֹ֣שְׁבֵי אִ֑י סֹחֵ֥ר צִיד֛וֹן עֹבֵ֥ר יָ֖ם מִלְאֽוּךְ׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Be still, O inhabitants of the coastland; thou whom the merchants of Żidon, that pass over the sea, have replenished.


###### Isaiah 23:3

וּבְמַ֤יִם רַבִּים֙ זֶ֣רַע שִׁחֹ֔ר קְצִ֥יר יְא֖וֹר תְּבוּאָתָ֑הּ וַתְּהִ֖י סְחַ֥ר גּוֹיִֽם׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
And by great waters the seed of Shiĥor, the harvest of the River, is her revenue; and she is a mart of nations.


###### Isaiah 23:4

בּ֣וֹשִׁי צִיד֔וֹן כִּֽי־אָמַ֣ר יָ֔ם מָע֥וֹז הַיָּ֖ם לֵאמֹ֑ר לֹא־חַ֣לְתִּי וְלֹֽא־יָלַ֗דְתִּי וְלֹ֥א גִדַּ֛לְתִּי בַּחוּרִ֖ים רוֹמַ֥מְתִּי בְתוּלֽוֹת׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Be thou ashamed, O Żidon: for the sea has spoken, even the strength of the sea, saying, I have not travailed, nor brought forth children, nor did I nourish up young men, nor bring up virgins.


###### Isaiah 23:5

כַּאֲשֶׁר־שֵׁ֖מַע לְמִצְרָ֑יִם יָחִ֖ילוּ כְּשֵׁ֥מַע צֹֽר׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
When the report comes to Miżrayim, they shall tremble at the report of Żor.

עִבְר֖וּ תַּרְשִׁ֑ישָׁה הֵילִ֖ילוּ יֹ֥שְׁבֵי אִֽי׃

Pass over to Tarshish; howl, inhabitants of the coastland.


###### Isaiah 23:7

הֲזֹ֥את לָכֶ֖ם עַלִּיזָ֑ה מִֽימֵי־קֶ֤דֶם קַדְמָתָהּ֙ יֹבִל֣וּהָ רַגְלֶ֔יהָ מֵרָח֖וֹק לָגֽוּר׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Is this your joyous city, whose antiquity is of ancient days? her own feet shall carry her afar off to sojourn.


###### Isaiah 23:8

מִ֚י יָעַ֣ץ זֹ֔את עַל־צֹ֖ר הַמַּעֲטִירָ֑ה אֲשֶׁ֤ר סֹחֲרֶ֙יהָ֙ שָׂרִ֔ים כִּנְעָנֶ֖יהָ נִכְבַּדֵּי־אָֽרֶץ׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Who has taken this counsel against Żor, the crowning city, whose merchants are princes, whose traffickers are the honourable men of the earth?


###### Isaiah 23:9

יְהֹוָ֥ה צְבָא֖וֹת יְעָצָ֑הּ לְחַלֵּל֙ גְּא֣וֹן כׇּל־צְבִ֔י לְהָקֵ֖ל כׇּל־נִכְבַּדֵּי־אָֽרֶץ׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
The Lord of hosts has purposed it, to stain the pride of all glory, and to bring into contempt all the honourable of the earth.


###### Isaiah 23:10

עִבְרִ֥י אַרְצֵ֖ךְ כַּיְאֹ֑ר בַּת־תַּרְשִׁ֕ישׁ אֵ֖ין מֵ֥זַח עֽוֹד׃

Overflow thy land like the River, O daughter of Tarshish: there is no wharf any more.


###### Isaiah 23:11

יָדוֹ֙ נָטָ֣ה עַל־הַיָּ֔ם הִרְגִּ֖יז מַמְלָכ֑וֹת יְהֹוָה֙ צִוָּ֣ה אֶל־כְּנַ֔עַן לַשְׁמִ֖ד מָעֻזְנֶֽיהָ׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
He stretched out his hand over the sea, he shook the kingdoms: the Lord has given a commandment against the merchant city, to destroy its strongholds.


###### Isaiah 23:12

וַיֹּ֕אמֶר לֹא־תוֹסִ֥יפִי ע֖וֹד לַעְל֑וֹז הַֽמְעֻשָּׁקָ֞ה בְּתוּלַ֣ת בַּת־צִיד֗וֹן (כתיים) [כִּתִּים֙] ק֣וּמִי עֲבֹ֔רִי גַּם־שָׁ֖ם לֹא־יָנ֥וּחַֽ לָֽךְ׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
And he said, Thou shalt no more rejoice, O thou oppressed virgin, daughter of Żidon: arise, pass over to Kittim; there also shalt thou have no rest.


###### Isaiah 23:13

הֵ֣ן**׀** אֶ֣רֶץ כַּשְׂדִּ֗ים זֶ֤ה הָעָם֙ לֹ֣א הָיָ֔ה אַשּׁ֖וּר יְסָדָ֣הּ לְצִיִּ֑ים הֵקִ֣ימוּ (בחיניו) [בַחוּנָ֗יו] עֽוֹרְרוּ֙ אַרְמְנוֹתֶ֔יהָ שָׂמָ֖הּ לְמַפֵּלָֽה׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
(Behold the land of Kasdim; this people was not till Ashshur founded it for desert dwellers; they set up its towers, they destroyed its palaces; they have brought it to ruin.)


###### Isaiah 23:14

הֵילִ֖ילוּ אֳנִיּ֣וֹת תַּרְשִׁ֑ישׁ כִּ֥י שֻׁדַּ֖ד מָעֻזְּכֶֽן׃{ס}

Howl, O ships of Tarshish: for your strength is laid waste.


###### Isaiah 23:15

וְהָיָה֙ בַּיּ֣וֹם הַה֔וּא וְנִשְׁכַּ֤חַת צֹר֙ שִׁבְעִ֣ים שָׁנָ֔ה כִּימֵ֖י מֶ֣לֶךְ אֶחָ֑ד מִקֵּ֞ץ שִׁבְעִ֤ים שָׁנָה֙ יִהְיֶ֣ה לְצֹ֔ר כְּשִׁירַ֖ת הַזּוֹנָֽה׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
And it shall come to pass on that day, that Żor shall be forgotten seventy years, according to the days of one king: after the end of years, according to the days of one king: after the end of seventy years, it shall fare with Żor as in the song of the harlot.


###### Isaiah 23:16

קְחִ֥י כִנּ֛וֹר סֹ֥בִּי עִ֖יר זוֹנָ֣ה נִשְׁכָּחָ֑ה הֵיטִ֤יבִי נַגֵּן֙ הַרְבִּי־שִׁ֔יר לְמַ֖עַן תִּזָּכֵֽרִי׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Take a lyre, go about the city, thou harlot that hast been forgotten; make sweet melody, sing many songs, that thou mayst be remembered.


###### Isaiah 23:17

וְהָיָ֞ה מִקֵּ֣ץ**׀** שִׁבְעִ֣ים שָׁנָ֗ה יִפְקֹ֤ד יְהֹוָה֙ אֶת־צֹ֔ר וְשָׁבָ֖ה לְאֶתְנַנָּ֑הֿ וְזָ֥נְתָ֛ה אֶת־כׇּל־מַמְלְכ֥וֹת הָאָ֖רֶץ עַל־פְּנֵ֥י הָאֲדָמָֽה׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
And it shall come to pass after the end of seventy years, that the Lord will visit Żor, and she shall turn to her hire, and shall play the harlot with all the kingdoms of the world up­­on the face of the earth.


###### Isaiah 23:18

וְהָיָ֨ה סַחְרָ֜הּ וְאֶתְנַנָּ֗הּ קֹ֚דֶשׁ לַֽיהֹוָ֔ה לֹ֥א יֵאָצֵ֖ר וְלֹ֣א יֵחָסֵ֑ן כִּ֣י לַיֹּשְׁבִ֞ים לִפְנֵ֤י יְהֹוָה֙ יִהְיֶ֣ה סַחְרָ֔הּ לֶאֱכֹ֥ל לְשׇׂבְעָ֖ה וְלִמְכַסֶּ֥ה עָתִֽיק׃{פ}

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
And her merchandise and her hire shall be holiness to the Lord: it shall not be treasured nor laid up; for her gain shall be for them that dwell before the Lord, to eat sufficiently, and for stately clothing.
