## Isaiah Chapter 31

###### Isaiah 31:1

ה֣וֹי הַיֹּרְדִ֤ים מִצְרַ֙יִם֙ לְעֶזְרָ֔ה עַל־סוּסִ֖ים יִשָּׁעֵ֑נוּ וַיִּבְטְח֨וּ עַל־רֶ֜כֶב כִּ֣י רָ֗ב וְעַ֤ל פָּרָשִׁים֙ כִּֽי־עָצְמ֣וּ מְאֹ֔ד וְלֹ֤א שָׁעוּ֙ עַל־קְד֣וֹשׁ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וְאֶת־יְהֹוָ֖ה לֹ֥א דָרָֽשׁוּ׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Woe to them that go down to Miżrayim for help; and depend on horses, and trust in chariots, because they are many; and in horsemen, because they are very strong; but they look not to the Holy One of Yisra᾽el, neither seek the Lord!


###### Isaiah 31:2

וְגַם־ה֤וּא חָכָם֙ וַיָּ֣בֵא רָ֔ע וְאֶת־דְּבָרָ֖יו לֹ֣א הֵסִ֑יר וְקָם֙ עַל־בֵּ֣ית מְרֵעִ֔ים וְעַל־עֶזְרַ֖ת פֹּ֥עֲלֵי אָֽוֶן׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Yet he also is wise, and will bring evil, and will not call back his words: but will arise against the house of the evildoers, and against the help of them that work iniquity.


###### Isaiah 31:3

וּמִצְרַ֤יִם אָדָם֙ וְֽלֹא־אֵ֔ל וְסוּסֵיהֶ֥ם בָּשָׂ֖ר וְלֹא־ר֑וּחַ וַיהֹוָ֞ה יַטֶּ֣ה יָד֗וֹ וְכָשַׁ֤ל עוֹזֵר֙ וְנָפַ֣ל עָזֻ֔ר וְיַחְדָּ֖ו כֻּלָּ֥ם יִכְלָיֽוּן׃{ס}

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Now Miżrayim is man, and not God; and their horses flesh, and not spirit. When the Lord shall stretch out his hand, the helper shall stumble, and the one who is helped shall fall down, and they shall all perish together.


###### Isaiah 31:4

כִּ֣י כֹ֣ה אָֽמַר־יְהֹוָ֣ה׀אֵלַ֡י כַּאֲשֶׁ֣ר יֶהְגֶּה֩ הָאַרְיֵ֨ה וְהַכְּפִ֜יר עַל־טַרְפּ֗וֹ אֲשֶׁ֨ר יִקָּרֵ֤א עָלָיו֙ מְלֹ֣א רֹעִ֔ים מִקּוֹלָם֙ לֹ֣א יֵחָ֔ת וּמֵהֲמוֹנָ֖ם לֹ֣א יַעֲנֶ֑ה כֵּ֗ן יֵרֵד֙ יְהֹוָ֣ה צְבָא֔וֹת לִצְבֹּ֥א עַל־הַר־צִיּ֖וֹן וְעַל־גִּבְעָתָֽהּ׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
For thus has the Lord spoken to me, Like the lion and the young lion roaring on their prey, though a multitude of shepherds is called out against him, he will not be afraid of their voice, nor abase himself for the noise of them: so shall the Lord of hosts come down to fight for mount Żiyyon, and for the hill thereof.


###### Isaiah 31:5

כְּצִפֳּרִ֣ים עָפ֔וֹת כֵּ֗ן יָגֵ֛ן יְהֹוָ֥ה צְבָא֖וֹת עַל־יְרוּשָׁלָ֑͏ִם גָּנ֥וֹן וְהִצִּ֖יל פָּסֹ֥חַ וְהִמְלִֽיט׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
As birds hovering, so will the Lord of hosts defend Yerushalayim; he will defend it and deliver it; he will pass over it and spare it.


###### Isaiah 31:6

שׁ֗וּבוּ לַאֲשֶׁ֛ר הֶעְמִ֥יקוּ סָרָ֖ה בְּנֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

Turn to him from whom you have deeply revolted, O children of Yisra᾽el.


###### Isaiah 31:7

כִּ֚י בַּיּ֣וֹם הַה֔וּא יִמְאָס֗וּן אִ֚ישׁ אֱלִילֵ֣י כַסְפּ֔וֹ וֶאֱלִילֵ֖י זְהָב֑וֹ אֲשֶׁ֨ר עָשׂ֥וּ לָכֶ֛ם יְדֵיכֶ֖ם חֵֽטְא׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
For on that day every man shall cast away his idols of silver, and his idols of gold, which your own hands have made to you for a sin.


###### Isaiah 31:8

וְנָפַ֤ל אַשּׁוּר֙ בְּחֶ֣רֶב לֹא־אִ֔ישׁ וְחֶ֥רֶב לֹא־אָדָ֖ם תֹּאכְלֶ֑נּוּ וְנָ֥ס לוֹ֙ מִפְּנֵי־חֶ֔רֶב וּבַחוּרָ֖יו לָמַ֥ס יִהְיֽוּ׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Then shall Ashshur fall with the sword, not of a mighty man; and the sword, not of a mean man, shall devour him: but he shall flee from the sword, and his young men shall become bondslaves.


###### Isaiah 31:9

וְסַלְעוֹ֙ מִמָּג֣וֹר יַעֲב֔וֹר וְחַתּ֥וּ מִנֵּ֖ס שָׂרָ֑יו נְאֻם־יְהֹוָ֗ה אֲשֶׁר־א֥וּר לוֹ֙ בְּצִיּ֔וֹן וְתַנּ֥וּר ל֖וֹ בִּירוּשָׁלָֽ͏ִם׃{פ}

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
And his rock shall pass away in terror, and his princes desert the banner in fear, says the Lord, whose hearth is in Żiyyon, and whose furnace is in Yerushalayim.
