## Isaiah Chapter 38

###### Isaiah 38:1

בַּיָּמִ֣ים הָהֵ֔ם חָלָ֥ה חִזְקִיָּ֖הוּ לָמ֑וּת וַיָּב֣וֹא אֵ֠לָ֠יו יְשַֽׁעְיָ֨הוּ בֶן־אָמ֜וֹץ הַנָּבִ֗יא וַיֹּ֨אמֶר אֵלָ֜יו כֹּֽה־אָמַ֤ר יְהֹוָה֙ צַ֣ו לְבֵיתֶ֔ךָ כִּ֛י מֵ֥ת אַתָּ֖ה וְלֹ֥א תִֽחְיֶֽה׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
In those days Ḥizqiyyahu fell mortally sick. And Yesha῾yahu the prophet, the son of Amoż came to him, and said to him, Thus says the Lord, Set thy house in order: for thou shalt die, and not live.


###### Isaiah 38:2

וַיַּסֵּ֧ב חִזְקִיָּ֛הוּ פָּנָ֖יו אֶל־הַקִּ֑יר וַיִּתְפַּלֵּ֖ל אֶל־יְהֹוָֽה׃

Then Ḥizqiyyahu turned his face toward the wall, and prayed to the Lord,


###### Isaiah 38:3

וַיֹּאמַ֗ר אָנָּ֤ה יְהֹוָה֙ זְכׇר־נָ֞א אֵ֣ת אֲשֶׁ֧ר הִתְהַלַּ֣כְתִּי לְפָנֶ֗יךָ בֶּֽאֱמֶת֙ וּבְלֵ֣ב שָׁלֵ֔ם וְהַטּ֥וֹב בְּעֵינֶ֖יךָ עָשִׂ֑יתִי וַיֵּ֥בְךְּ חִזְקִיָּ֖הוּ בְּכִ֥י גָדֽוֹל׃{ס}

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
and said, Remember now, O Lord, I beseech Thee, how I have walked before Thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in Thy sight. And Ḥizqiyyahu wept sore.


###### Isaiah 38:4

וַֽיְהִי֙ דְּבַר־יְהֹוָ֔ה אֶֽל־יְשַֽׁעְיָ֖הוּ לֵאמֹֽר׃

Then came the word of the Lord to Yesha῾yahu, saying,

הָל֞וֹךְ וְאָמַרְתָּ֣ אֶל־חִזְקִיָּ֗הוּ כֹּֽה־אָמַ֤ר יְהֹוָה֙ אֱלֹהֵי֙ דָּוִ֣ד אָבִ֔יךָ שָׁמַ֙עְתִּי֙ אֶת־תְּפִלָּתֶ֔ךָ רָאִ֖יתִי אֶת־דִּמְעָתֶ֑ךָ הִנְנִי֙ יוֹסִ֣ף עַל־יָמֶ֔יךָ חֲמֵ֥שׁ עֶשְׂרֵ֖ה שָׁנָֽה׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Go, and say to Ḥizqiyyahu, Thus says the Lord, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will add to thy days fifteen years.


###### Isaiah 38:6

וּמִכַּ֤ף מֶֽלֶךְ־אַשּׁוּר֙ אַצִּ֣ילְךָ֔ וְאֵ֖ת הָעִ֣יר הַזֹּ֑את וְגַנּוֹתִ֖י עַל־הָעִ֥יר הַזֹּֽאת׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
And I will deliver thee and this city out of the hand of the king of Ashshur: and I will defend this city.


###### Isaiah 38:7

וְזֶה־לְּךָ֥ הָא֖וֹת מֵאֵ֣ת יְהֹוָ֑ה אֲשֶׁר֙ יַעֲשֶׂ֣ה יְהֹוָ֔ה אֶת־הַדָּבָ֥ר הַזֶּ֖ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר דִּבֵּֽר׃

And this shall be a sign to thee from the Lord, that the Lord will do this thing that he has spoken:


###### Isaiah 38:8

הִנְנִ֣י מֵשִׁ֣יב אֶת־צֵ֣ל הַֽמַּעֲל֡וֹת אֲשֶׁ֣ר יָרְדָה֩ בְמַעֲל֨וֹת אָחָ֥ז בַּשֶּׁ֛מֶשׁ אֲחֹרַנִּ֖ית עֶ֣שֶׂר מַעֲל֑וֹת וַתָּ֤שׇׁב הַשֶּׁ֙מֶשׁ֙ עֶ֣שֶׂר מַעֲל֔וֹת בַּֽמַּעֲל֖וֹת אֲשֶׁ֥ר יָרָֽדָה׃{ס}

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
behold, I will turn the shadow of the dial, which is gone down in the sun dial of Aĥaz, ten degrees backward. So the sun returned ten degrees, by which it had gone down on the dial.


###### Isaiah 38:9

מִכְתָּ֖ב לְחִזְקִיָּ֣הוּ מֶלֶךְ־יְהוּדָ֑ה בַּחֲלֹת֕וֹ וַיְחִ֖י מֵחׇלְיֽוֹ׃

The writing of Ḥizqiyyahu king of Yehuda when he had been sick, and was recovered of his sickness:


###### Isaiah 38:10

אֲנִ֣י אָמַ֗רְתִּי בִּדְמִ֥י יָמַ֛י אֵלֵ֖כָה בְּשַׁעֲרֵ֣י שְׁא֑וֹל פֻּקַּ֖דְתִּי יֶ֥תֶר שְׁנוֹתָֽי׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
I said in the noontide of my days, I shall go to the gates of She᾽ol: I am deprived of the residue of my years.


###### Isaiah 38:11

אָמַ֙רְתִּי֙ לֹא־אֶרְאֶ֣ה יָ֔הּ יָ֖הּ בְּאֶ֣רֶץ הַחַיִּ֑ים לֹא־אַבִּ֥יט אָדָ֛ם ע֖וֹד עִם־י֥וֹשְׁבֵי חָֽדֶל׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
I said, I shall not see the Lord, the Lord, in the land of the living: I shall behold man no more with the inhabitants of the world.


###### Isaiah 38:12

דּוֹרִ֗י נִסַּ֧ע וְנִגְלָ֛ה מִנִּ֖י כְּאֹ֣הֶל רֹעִ֑י קִפַּ֨דְתִּי כָאֹרֵ֤ג חַיַּי֙ מִדַּלָּ֣ה יְבַצְּעֵ֔נִי מִיּ֥וֹם עַד־לַ֖יְלָה תַּשְׁלִימֵֽנִי׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
My dwelling is plucked up and is removed from me like a shepherd’s tent: I have rolled up my life like a weaver: he will cut me off from the loom: from day to night Thou dost make an end of me.


###### Isaiah 38:13

שִׁוִּ֤יתִי עַד־בֹּ֙קֶר֙ כָּאֲרִ֔י כֵּ֥ן יְשַׁבֵּ֖ר כׇּל־עַצְמוֹתָ֑י מִיּ֥וֹם עַד־לַ֖יְלָה תַּשְׁלִימֵֽנִי׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
I wait for morning; as a lion, even so he breaks all my bones: from day to night dost thou make an end of me.

כְּס֤וּס עָגוּר֙ כֵּ֣ן אֲצַפְצֵ֔ף אֶהְגֶּ֖ה כַּיּוֹנָ֑ה דַּלּ֤וּ עֵינַי֙ לַמָּר֔וֹם אֲדֹנָ֖י עָֽשְׁקָה־לִּ֥י עׇרְבֵֽנִי׃

Like a swift or a crane, even so do I chirp: I moan like a dove: my eyes fail with looking upwards: O Lord, I am oppressed, be Thou my security.


###### Isaiah 38:15

מָֽה־אֲדַבֵּ֥ר וְאָֽמַר־לִ֖י וְה֣וּא עָשָׂ֑ה אֶדַּדֶּ֥ה כׇל־שְׁנוֹתַ֖י עַל־מַ֥ר נַפְשִֽׁי׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
What shall I say? he has both spoken to me, and himself has done it: I shall walk softly all my years for the bitterness of my soul.


###### Isaiah 38:16

אֲדֹנָ֖י עֲלֵיהֶ֣ם יִֽחְי֑וּ וּלְכׇל־בָּהֶן֙ חַיֵּ֣י רוּחִ֔י וְתַחֲלִימֵ֖נִי וְהַחֲיֵֽנִי׃

O Lord, with these things men live! and in all these is the life of my spirit: wherefore restore me and make me live.


###### Isaiah 38:17

הִנֵּ֥ה לְשָׁל֖וֹם מַר־לִ֣י מָ֑ר וְאַתָּ֞ה חָשַׁ֤קְתָּ נַפְשִׁי֙ מִשַּׁ֣חַת בְּלִ֔י כִּ֥י הִשְׁלַ֛כְתָּ אַחֲרֵ֥י גֵוְךָ֖ כׇּל־חֲטָאָֽי׃

Behold, for in peace I had great bitterness: but Thou hast in love to my soul delivered it, from the pit of destruction: for Thou hast cast all my sins behind Thy back.


###### Isaiah 38:18

כִּ֣י לֹ֥א שְׁא֛וֹל תּוֹדֶ֖ךָּ מָ֣וֶת יְהַלְלֶ֑ךָּ לֹא־יְשַׂבְּר֥וּ יוֹרְדֵי־ב֖וֹר אֶל־אֲמִתֶּֽךָ׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
For She᾽ol cannot praise Thee, death cannot celebrate Thee: they that go down into the pit cannot hope for Thy truth.


###### Isaiah 38:19

חַ֥י חַ֛י ה֥וּא יוֹדֶ֖ךָ כָּמ֣וֹנִי הַיּ֑וֹם אָ֣ב לְבָנִ֔ים יוֹדִ֖יעַ אֶל־אֲמִתֶּֽךָ׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
The living, the living, he shall praise Thee, as I do this day: the father to the children shall make known Thy truth.


###### Isaiah 38:20

יְהֹוָ֖ה לְהוֹשִׁיעֵ֑נִי וּנְגִנוֹתַ֧י נְנַגֵּ֛ן כׇּל־יְמֵ֥י חַיֵּ֖ינוּ עַל־בֵּ֥ית יְהֹוָֽה׃

The Lord was ready to save me: therefore we will sing my songs to the stringed instruments all the days of our life in the house of the Lord.


###### Isaiah 38:21

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר יְשַֽׁעְיָ֔הוּ יִשְׂא֖וּ דְּבֶ֣לֶת תְּאֵנִ֑ים וְיִמְרְח֥וּ עַֽל־הַשְּׁחִ֖ין וְיֶֽחִי׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
For Yesha῾yahu had said, Let them take a cake of figs, and lay it for a plaster upon the festering place, and he shall recover.


###### Isaiah 38:22

וַיֹּ֥אמֶר חִזְקִיָּ֖הוּ מָ֣ה א֑וֹת כִּ֥י אֶעֱלֶ֖ה בֵּ֥ית יְהֹוָֽה׃{ס}

Ḥizqiyyahu also had said, What is the sign that I shall go up to the house of the Lord?
