## Isaiah Chapter 48

###### Isaiah 48:1

שִׁמְעוּ־זֹ֣את בֵּֽית־יַעֲקֹ֗ב הַנִּקְרָאִים֙ בְּשֵׁ֣ם יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וּמִמֵּ֥י יְהוּדָ֖ה יָצָ֑אוּ הַֽנִּשְׁבָּעִ֣ים**׀** בְּשֵׁ֣ם יְהֹוָ֗ה וּבֵאלֹהֵ֤י יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ יַזְכִּ֔ירוּ לֹ֥א בֶאֱמֶ֖ת וְלֹ֥א בִצְדָקָֽה׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Hear this, O house of Ya῾aqov, who are called by the name of Yisra᾽el, and are come forth out of the waters of Yehuda, who swear by the name of the Lord, and make mention of the God of Yisra᾽el, but not in truth, nor in righteousness.


###### Isaiah 48:2

כִּֽי־מֵעִ֤יר הַקֹּ֙דֶשׁ֙ נִקְרָ֔אוּ וְעַל־אֱלֹהֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל נִסְמָ֑כוּ יְהֹוָ֥ה צְבָא֖וֹת שְׁמֽוֹ׃{ס}

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
For they call themselves of the holy city, and stay themselves upon the God of Yisra᾽el, The Lord of hosts is his name.


###### Isaiah 48:3

הָרִֽאשֹׁנוֹת֙ מֵאָ֣ז הִגַּ֔דְתִּי וּמִפִּ֥י יָצְא֖וּ וְאַשְׁמִיעֵ֑ם פִּתְאֹ֥ם עָשִׂ֖יתִי וַתָּבֹֽאנָה׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
I have declared the former things from the beginning; and they went out of my mouth, and I reported them; I did them suddenly, and they came to pass.


###### Isaiah 48:4

מִדַּעְתִּ֕י כִּ֥י קָשֶׁ֖ה אָ֑תָּה וְגִ֤יד בַּרְזֶל֙ עׇרְפֶּ֔ךָ וּמִצְחֲךָ֖ נְחוּשָֽׁה׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Because I know that thou art obstinate, and thy neck is an iron sinew, and thy forehead brass;


###### Isaiah 48:5

וָאַגִּ֤יד לְךָ֙ מֵאָ֔ז בְּטֶ֥רֶם תָּב֖וֹא הִשְׁמַעְתִּ֑יךָ פֶּן־תֹּאמַר֙ עׇצְבִּ֣י עָשָׂ֔ם וּפִסְלִ֥י וְנִסְכִּ֖י צִוָּֽם׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
I have even from the beginning declared it to thee; before it came to pass I showed it thee: lest thou shouldst say, My idol has done them, and my carved idol, and my molten image has commanded them.


###### Isaiah 48:6

שָׁמַ֤עְתָּֽ חֲזֵה֙ כֻּלָּ֔הּ וְאַתֶּ֖ם הֲל֣וֹא תַגִּ֑ידוּ הִשְׁמַעְתִּ֤יךָ חֲדָשׁוֹת֙ מֵעַ֔תָּה וּנְצֻר֖וֹת וְלֹ֥א יְדַעְתָּֽם׃

Thou hast heard, now see all this; and will you not declare it? I have shown thee new things from this time, hidden things, which thou didst not know.


###### Isaiah 48:7

עַתָּ֤ה נִבְרְאוּ֙ וְלֹ֣א מֵאָ֔ז וְלִפְנֵי־י֖וֹם וְלֹ֣א שְׁמַעְתָּ֑ם פֶּן־תֹּאמַ֖ר הִנֵּ֥ה יְדַעְתִּֽין׃

They are created now, and not from the beginning; and before this day thou heardest them not; lest thou shouldst say, Behold, I knew them.


###### Isaiah 48:8

גַּ֣ם לֹֽא־שָׁמַ֗עְתָּ גַּ֚ם לֹ֣א יָדַ֔עְתָּ גַּ֕ם מֵאָ֖ז לֹא־פִתְּחָ֣ה אׇזְנֶ֑ךָ כִּ֤י יָדַ֙עְתִּי֙ בָּג֣וֹד תִּבְגּ֔וֹד וּפֹשֵׁ֥עַ מִבֶּ֖טֶן קֹ֥רָא לָֽךְ׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Thou didst neither hear nor know; nor from old was thy ear opened: for I knew that thou wouldst deal very treacherously, and wast called a transgressor from birth.


###### Isaiah 48:9

לְמַ֤עַן שְׁמִי֙ אַאֲרִ֣יךְ אַפִּ֔י וּתְהִלָּתִ֖י אֶחֱטׇם־לָ֑ךְ לְבִלְתִּ֖י הַכְרִיתֶֽךָ׃

For my name’s sake will I defer my anger, and for my praise will I refrain for thee, that I cut thee not off.


###### Isaiah 48:10

הִנֵּ֥ה צְרַפְתִּ֖יךָ וְלֹ֣א בְכָ֑סֶף בְּחַרְתִּ֖יךָ בְּכ֥וּר עֹֽנִי׃

Behold, I have refined thee, but not into silver; I have tried thee in the furnace of affliction.


###### Isaiah 48:11

לְמַעֲנִ֧י לְמַעֲנִ֛י אֶעֱשֶׂ֖ה כִּ֣י אֵ֣יךְ יֵחָ֑ל וּכְבוֹדִ֖י לְאַחֵ֥ר לֹא־אֶתֵּֽן׃{פ}

For my own sake, for my own sake, will I do it: for how should my name be profaned? and I will not give my glory to another.


###### Isaiah 48:12

שְׁמַ֤ע אֵלַי֙ יַֽעֲקֹ֔ב וְיִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל מְקֹרָאִ֑י אֲנִי־הוּא֙ אֲנִ֣י רִאשׁ֔וֹן אַ֖ף אֲנִ֥י אַחֲרֽוֹן׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Hearken to me, O Ya῾aqov and Yisra᾽el whom I called; I am he; I am the first, I also am the last.


###### Isaiah 48:13

אַף־יָדִי֙ יָ֣סְדָה אֶ֔רֶץ וִימִינִ֖י טִפְּחָ֣ה שָׁמָ֑יִם קֹרֵ֥א אֲנִ֛י אֲלֵיהֶ֖ם יַעַמְד֥וּ יַחְדָּֽו׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
My hand also has laid the foundation of the earth, and my right hand has spanned the heavens: when I call to them, they stand up together.


###### Isaiah 48:14

הִקָּבְצ֤וּ כֻלְּכֶם֙ וּֽשְׁמָ֔עוּ מִ֥י בָהֶ֖ם הִגִּ֣יד אֶת־אֵ֑לֶּה יְהֹוָ֣ה אֲהֵב֔וֹ יַעֲשֶׂ֤ה חֶפְצוֹ֙ בְּבָבֶ֔ל וּזְרֹע֖וֹ כַּשְׂדִּֽים׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
All of you, assemble yourselves, and hear; which among them has declared these things? He whom the Lord loves, he will do his pleasure on Bavel, and his arm shall be on the Kasdim.


###### Isaiah 48:15

אֲנִ֥י אֲנִ֛י דִּבַּ֖רְתִּי אַף־קְרָאתִ֑יו הֲבִאֹתִ֖יו וְהִצְלִ֥יחַ דַּרְכּֽוֹ׃

I, even I, have spoken; indeed, I have called him: I have brought him, and he shall succeed in his way.

קִרְב֧וּ אֵלַ֣י שִׁמְעוּ־זֹ֗את לֹ֤א מֵרֹאשׁ֙ בַּסֵּ֣תֶר דִּבַּ֔רְתִּי מֵעֵ֥ת הֱיוֹתָ֖הּ שָׁ֣ם אָ֑נִי וְעַתָּ֗ה אֲדֹנָ֧י יֱהֹוִ֛ה שְׁלָחַ֖נִי וְרוּחֽוֹ׃{פ}

Come near to me, hear this; I have not spoken in secret from the beginning; from the time that it was, there have I been: and now the Lord God, and his spirit, has sent me.


###### Isaiah 48:17

כֹּה־אָמַ֧ר יְהֹוָ֛ה גֹּאַלְךָ֖ קְד֣וֹשׁ יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל אֲנִ֨י יְהֹוָ֤ה אֱלֹהֶ֙יךָ֙ מְלַמֶּדְךָ֣ לְהוֹעִ֔יל מַדְרִֽיכְךָ֖ בְּדֶ֥רֶךְ תֵּלֵֽךְ׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Thus says the Lord, thy redeemer, the Holy One of Yisra᾽el; I am the Lord thy God who teaches thee for thy profit, who leads thee by the way that thou shouldst go.


###### Isaiah 48:18

ל֥וּא הִקְשַׁ֖בְתָּ לְמִצְוֺתָ֑י וַיְהִ֤י כַנָּהָר֙ שְׁלוֹמֶ֔ךָ וְצִדְקָתְךָ֖ כְּגַלֵּ֥י הַיָּֽם׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
O that thou hadst hearkened to my commandments! then had thy peace been as a river, and thy righteousness as the waves of the sea:


###### Isaiah 48:19

וַיְהִ֤י כַחוֹל֙ זַרְעֶ֔ךָ וְצֶאֱצָאֵ֥י מֵעֶ֖יךָ כִּמְעֹתָ֑יו לֹא־יִכָּרֵ֧ת וְֽלֹא־יִשָּׁמֵ֛ד שְׁמ֖וֹ מִלְּפָנָֽי׃{ס}

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
thy seed also had been as the sand, and the offspring of thy bowels like its pebbles; his name should not have been cut off nor destroyed from before me.


###### Isaiah 48:20

צְא֣וּ מִבָּבֶל֮ בִּרְח֣וּ מִכַּשְׂדִּים֒ בְּק֣וֹל רִנָּ֗ה הַגִּ֤ידוּ הַשְׁמִ֙יעוּ֙ זֹ֔את הוֹצִיא֖וּהָ עַד־קְצֵ֣ה הָאָ֑רֶץ אִמְר֕וּ גָּאַ֥ל יְהֹוָ֖ה עַבְדּ֥וֹ יַעֲקֹֽב׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Go forth out of Bavel, flee from the Kasdim, with a voice of singing declare, tell this, utter it even to the end of the earth; say, The Lord has redeemed his servant Ya῾aqov.


###### Isaiah 48:21

וְלֹ֣א צָמְא֗וּ בׇּֽחֳרָבוֹת֙ הוֹלִיכָ֔ם מַ֥יִם מִצּ֖וּר הִזִּ֣יל לָ֑מוֹ וַיִּ֨בְקַע־צ֔וּר וַיָּזֻ֖בוּ מָֽיִם׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
And they thirsted not when he led them through the deserts: he caused water to flow out of the rock for them: he split the rock, and the water gushed out.


###### Isaiah 48:22

אֵ֣ין שָׁל֔וֹם אָמַ֥ר יְהֹוָ֖ה לָרְשָׁעִֽים׃{פ}

There is no peace, says the Lord, for the wicked.
