## Isaiah Chapter 51

###### Isaiah 51:1

שִׁמְע֥וּ אֵלַ֛י רֹ֥דְפֵי צֶ֖דֶק מְבַקְשֵׁ֣י יְהֹוָ֑ה הַבִּ֙יטוּ֙ אֶל־צ֣וּר חֻצַּבְתֶּ֔ם וְאֶל־מַקֶּ֥בֶת בּ֖וֹר נֻקַּרְתֶּֽם׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Hearken to me, you that follow after righteousness, you that seek the Lord: look to the rock whence you are hewn, and to the hole of the pit from which you were dug out.


###### Isaiah 51:2

הַבִּ֙יטוּ֙ אֶל־אַבְרָהָ֣ם אֲבִיכֶ֔ם וְאֶל־שָׂרָ֖ה תְּחוֹלֶלְכֶ֑ם כִּֽי־אֶחָ֣ד קְרָאתִ֔יו וַאֲבָרְכֵ֖הוּ וְאַרְבֵּֽהוּ׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Look to Avraham your father, and to Sara that bore you: for he was but one when I called him, and I blessed him, and increased him.


###### Isaiah 51:3

כִּי־נִחַ֨ם יְהֹוָ֜ה צִיּ֗וֹן נִחַם֙ כׇּל־חׇרְבֹתֶ֔יהָ וַיָּ֤שֶׂם מִדְבָּרָהּ֙ כְּעֵ֔דֶן וְעַרְבָתָ֖הּ כְּגַן־יְהֹוָ֑ה שָׂשׂ֤וֹן וְשִׂמְחָה֙ יִמָּ֣צֵא בָ֔הּ תּוֹדָ֖ה וְק֥וֹל זִמְרָֽה׃{ס}

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
For the Lord shall comfort Żiyyon: he will comfort all her waste places; and he will make her wilderness like ῾Eden, and her desert like the garden of the Lord; joy and gladness shall be found in it, thanksgiving, and the voice of melody.


###### Isaiah 51:4

הַקְשִׁ֤יבוּ אֵלַי֙ עַמִּ֔י וּלְאוּמִּ֖י אֵלַ֣י הַאֲזִ֑ינוּ כִּ֤י תוֹרָה֙ מֵאִתִּ֣י תֵצֵ֔א וּמִ֨שְׁפָּטִ֔י לְא֥וֹר עַמִּ֖ים אַרְגִּֽיעַ׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Hearken to me, my people; and give ear to me, O my nation: for Tora shall proceed from me, and I will make my judgment suddenly for a light of the peoples.


###### Isaiah 51:5

קָר֤וֹב צִדְקִי֙ יָצָ֣א יִשְׁעִ֔י וּזְרֹעַ֖י עַמִּ֣ים יִשְׁפֹּ֑טוּ אֵלַי֙ אִיִּ֣ים יְקַוּ֔וּ וְאֶל־זְרֹעִ֖י יְיַחֵלֽוּן׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
My righteousness is near; my salvation has gone forth, and my arms shall judge the peoples; isles shall wait upon me, and on my arm shall they trust.


###### Isaiah 51:6

שְׂאוּ֩ לַשָּׁמַ֨יִם עֵינֵיכֶ֜ם וְֽהַבִּ֧יטוּ אֶל־הָאָ֣רֶץ מִתַּ֗חַת כִּֽי־שָׁמַ֜יִם כֶּעָשָׁ֤ן נִמְלָ֙חוּ֙ וְהָאָ֙רֶץ֙ כַּבֶּ֣גֶד תִּבְלֶ֔ה וְיֹשְׁבֶ֖יהָ כְּמוֹ־כֵ֣ן יְמוּת֑וּן וִישֽׁוּעָתִי֙ לְעוֹלָ֣ם תִּֽהְיֶ֔ה וְצִדְקָתִ֖י לֹ֥א תֵחָֽת׃{פ}

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Lift up your eyes to the heavens, and look upon the earth beneath; for the heavens shall vanish away like smoke, and the earth shall grow old like a garment, and they that dwell in it shall die in like manner: but my salvation shall be forever, and my righteousness shall not be overthrown.


###### Isaiah 51:7

שִׁמְע֤וּ אֵלַי֙ יֹ֣דְעֵי צֶ֔דֶק עַ֖ם תּוֹרָתִ֣י בְלִבָּ֑ם אַל־תִּֽירְאוּ֙ חֶרְפַּ֣ת אֱנ֔וֹשׁ וּמִגִּדֻּפֹתָ֖ם אַל־תֵּחָֽתּוּ׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Hearken to me, you that know righteousness, the people in whose heart is my Tora; fear not the taunts of men, neither be dismayed by their revilings.


###### Isaiah 51:8

כִּ֤י כַבֶּ֙גֶד֙ יֹאכְלֵ֣ם עָ֔שׁ וְכַצֶּ֖מֶר יֹאכְלֵ֣ם סָ֑ס וְצִדְקָתִי֙ לְעוֹלָ֣ם תִּֽהְיֶ֔ה וִישׁוּעָתִ֖י לְד֥וֹר דּוֹרִֽים׃{ס}

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
For the moth shall eat them up like a garment, and the worm shall eat them like wool: but my righteousness shall be for ever, and my salvation for all generations.


###### Isaiah 51:9

עוּרִ֨י עוּרִ֤י לִבְשִׁי־עֹז֙ זְר֣וֹעַ יְהֹוָ֔ה ע֚וּרִי כִּ֣ימֵי קֶ֔דֶם דֹּר֖וֹת עוֹלָמִ֑ים הֲל֥וֹא אַתְּ־הִ֛יא הַמַּחְצֶ֥בֶת רַ֖הַב מְחוֹלֶ֥לֶת תַּנִּֽין׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Awake, awake, put on strength, O arm of the Lord; awake, as in the ancient days, in the generations of old. Art thou not it that has cut Raĥav in pieces, and wounded the crocodile?


###### Isaiah 51:10

הֲל֤וֹא אַתְּ־הִיא֙ הַמַּחֲרֶ֣בֶת יָ֔ם מֵ֖י תְּה֣וֹם רַבָּ֑ה הַשָּׂ֙מָה֙ מַֽעֲמַקֵּי־יָ֔ם דֶּ֖רֶךְ לַעֲבֹ֥ר גְּאוּלִֽים׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Art thou not it which dried the sea, the waters of the great deep; that made the depths of the sea a way for the ransomed to pass over?


###### Isaiah 51:11

וּפְדוּיֵ֨י יְהֹוָ֜ה יְשׁוּב֗וּן וּבָ֤אוּ צִיּוֹן֙ בְּרִנָּ֔ה וְשִׂמְחַ֥ת עוֹלָ֖ם עַל־רֹאשָׁ֑ם שָׂשׂ֤וֹן וְשִׂמְחָה֙ יַשִּׂיג֔וּן נָ֖סוּ יָג֥וֹן וַאֲנָחָֽה׃{ס}

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Therefore the redeemed of the Lord shall return, and come with singing to Żiyyon; and everlasting joy shall be upon their head: they shall obtain gladness and joy; and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.


###### Isaiah 51:12

אָנֹכִ֧י אָנֹכִ֛י ה֖וּא מְנַחֶמְכֶ֑ם מִי־אַ֤תְּ וַתִּֽירְאִי֙ מֵאֱנ֣וֹשׁ יָמ֔וּת וּמִבֶּן־אָדָ֖ם חָצִ֥יר יִנָּתֵֽן׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
I, even I, am he that comforts you: who art thou, that thou shouldst be afraid of a mortal man, and of the son of man who shall be made as grass;


###### Isaiah 51:13

וַתִּשְׁכַּ֞ח יְהֹוָ֣ה עֹשֶׂ֗ךָ נוֹטֶ֣ה שָׁמַ֘יִם֮ וְיֹסֵ֣ד אָ֒רֶץ֒ וַתְּפַחֵ֨ד תָּמִ֜יד כׇּל־הַיּ֗וֹם מִפְּנֵי֙ חֲמַ֣ת הַמֵּצִ֔יק כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר כּוֹנֵ֖ן לְהַשְׁחִ֑ית וְאַיֵּ֖ה חֲמַ֥ת הַמֵּצִֽיק׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
and hast forgotten the Lord thy maker, that stretched forth the heavens, and laid the foundations of the earth; and hast feared continually every day because of the fury of the oppressor, as he makes ready to destroy? and where is the fury of the oppressor?


###### Isaiah 51:14

מִהַ֥ר צֹעֶ֖ה לְהִפָּתֵ֑חַ וְלֹא־יָמ֣וּת לַשַּׁ֔חַת וְלֹ֥א יֶחְסַ֖ר לַחְמֽוֹ׃

The crouching one hastens that he may be loosed, and he shall not die in the pit, nor shall his bread fail.


###### Isaiah 51:15

וְאָֽנֹכִי֙ יְהֹוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ רֹגַ֣ע הַיָּ֔ם וַיֶּהֱמ֖וּ גַּלָּ֑יו יְהֹוָ֥ה צְבָא֖וֹת שְׁמֽוֹ׃

And I am the Lord thy God, who stirs up the sea, that its waves roared: The Lord of hosts is his name.


###### Isaiah 51:16

וָאָשִׂ֤ם דְּבָרַי֙ בְּפִ֔יךָ וּבְצֵ֥ל יָדִ֖י כִּסִּיתִ֑יךָ לִנְטֹ֤עַ שָׁמַ֙יִם֙ וְלִיסֹ֣ד אָ֔רֶץ וְלֵאמֹ֥ר לְצִיּ֖וֹן עַמִּי־אָֽתָּה׃{ס}

And I have put my words in thy mouth, and I have covered thee in the shadow of my hand, that I may plant the heavens, and lay the foundations of the earth, and say to Żiyyon, Thou art my people.


###### Isaiah 51:17

הִתְעוֹרְרִ֣י הִֽתְעוֹרְרִ֗י ק֚וּמִי יְר֣וּשָׁלַ֔͏ִם אֲשֶׁ֥ר שָׁתִ֛ית מִיַּ֥ד יְהֹוָ֖ה אֶת־כּ֣וֹס חֲמָת֑וֹ אֶת־קֻבַּ֜עַת כּ֧וֹס הַתַּרְעֵלָ֛ה שָׁתִ֖ית מָצִֽית׃

Awake, awake, stand up, O Yerushalayim, who hast drunk at the hand of the Lord the cup of his fury; thou hast drunk to the dregs, the deep bowl of staggering.


###### Isaiah 51:18

אֵין־מְנַהֵ֣ל לָ֔הּ מִכׇּל־בָּנִ֖ים יָלָ֑דָה וְאֵ֤ין מַחֲזִיק֙ בְּיָדָ֔הּ מִכׇּל־בָּנִ֖ים גִּדֵּֽלָה׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
There is none to guide her among all the sons whom she has brought forth; nor is there any that takes her by the hand among all the sons that she has brought up.


###### Isaiah 51:19

שְׁתַּ֤יִם הֵ֙נָּה֙ קֹרְאֹתַ֔יִךְ מִ֖י יָנ֣וּד לָ֑ךְ הַשֹּׁ֧ד וְהַשֶּׁ֛בֶר וְהָרָעָ֥ב וְהַחֶ֖רֶב מִ֥י אֲנַחֲמֵֽךְ׃

These two things have befallen thee; who shall console thee? desolation, and destruction, and the famine, and the sword: by whom shall I comfort thee?


###### Isaiah 51:20

בָּנַ֜יִךְ עֻלְּפ֥וּ שָׁכְב֛וּ בְּרֹ֥אשׁ כׇּל־חוּצ֖וֹת כְּת֣וֹא מִכְמָ֑ר הַֽמְלֵאִ֥ים חֲמַת־יְהֹוָ֖ה גַּעֲרַ֥ת אֱלֹהָֽיִךְ׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Thy sons have fainted, they lie at the head of all the streets, like a bison in a net: they are full of the fury of the Lord, the rebuke of thy God.


###### Isaiah 51:21

לָכֵ֛ן שִׁמְעִי־נָ֥א זֹ֖את עֲנִיָּ֑ה וּשְׁכֻרַ֖ת וְלֹ֥א מִיָּֽיִן׃{פ}

Therefore hear now this, thou afflicted, and drunken, but not with wine:


###### Isaiah 51:22

כֹּה־אָמַ֞ר אֲדֹנַ֣יִךְ יְהֹוָ֗ה וֵאלֹהַ֙יִךְ֙ יָרִ֣יב עַמּ֔וֹ הִנֵּ֥ה לָקַ֛חְתִּי מִיָּדֵ֖ךְ אֶת־כּ֣וֹס הַתַּרְעֵלָ֑ה אֶת־קֻבַּ֙עַת֙ כּ֣וֹס חֲמָתִ֔י לֹא־תוֹסִ֥יפִי לִשְׁתּוֹתָ֖הּ עֽוֹד׃

Thus says thy Lord the Lord, and thy God that pleads the cause of his people, Behold, I have taken out of thy hand the cup of staggering, the deep bowl of my fury; thou shalt no more drink it again:


###### Isaiah 51:23

וְשַׂמְתִּ֙יהָ֙ בְּיַד־מוֹגַ֔יִךְ אֲשֶׁר־אָמְר֥וּ לְנַפְשֵׁ֖ךְ שְׁחִ֣י וְנַעֲבֹ֑רָה וַתָּשִׂ֤ימִי כָאָ֙רֶץ֙ גֵּוֵ֔ךְ וְכַח֖וּץ לַעֹבְרִֽים׃{פ}

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
but I will put it into the hand of them that afflict thee; who have said to thy soul, Bow down, that we may go over: and thou hast laid thy body like the ground, and like the street, to them that go over.
