## Isaiah Chapter 59

###### Isaiah 59:1

הֵ֛ן לֹא־קָצְרָ֥ה יַד־יְהֹוָ֖ה מֵהוֹשִׁ֑יעַ וְלֹא־כָבְדָ֥ה אׇזְנ֖וֹ מִשְּׁמֽוֹעַ׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither is his ear heavy, that it cannot hear:


###### Isaiah 59:2

כִּ֤י אִם־עֲוֺנֹֽתֵיכֶם֙ הָי֣וּ מַבְדִּלִ֔ים בֵּינֵכֶ֕ם לְבֵ֖ין אֱלֹהֵיכֶ֑ם וְחַטֹּאותֵיכֶ֗ם הִסְתִּ֧ירוּ פָנִ֛ים מִכֶּ֖ם מִשְּׁמֽוֹעַ׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
but your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.


###### Isaiah 59:3

כִּ֤י כַפֵּיכֶם֙ נְגֹאֲל֣וּ בַדָּ֔ם וְאֶצְבְּעוֹתֵיכֶ֖ם בֶּעָוֺ֑ן שִׂפְתֽוֹתֵיכֶם֙ דִּבְּרוּ־שֶׁ֔קֶר לְשׁוֹנְכֶ֖ם עַוְלָ֥ה תֶהְגֶּֽה׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
For your hands are defiled with blood, and your fingers with iniquity; your lips have spoken lies, your tongue mutters wickedness.


###### Isaiah 59:4

אֵין־קֹרֵ֣א בְצֶ֔דֶק וְאֵ֥ין נִשְׁפָּ֖ט בֶּאֱמוּנָ֑ה בָּט֤וֹחַ עַל־תֹּ֙הוּ֙ וְדַבֶּר־שָׁ֔וְא הָר֥וֹ עָמָ֖ל וְהוֹלֵ֥יד אָֽוֶן׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
None calls in uprightness, nor any pleads in truth: they trust in vanity, and speak lies; they conceive mischief, and bring forth iniquity.


###### Isaiah 59:5

בֵּיצֵ֤י צִפְעוֹנִי֙ בִּקֵּ֔עוּ וְקוּרֵ֥י עַכָּבִ֖ישׁ יֶאֱרֹ֑גוּ הָאֹכֵ֤ל מִבֵּֽיצֵיהֶם֙ יָמ֔וּת וְהַזּוּרֶ֖ה תִּבָּקַ֥ע אֶפְעֶֽה׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
They hatch vipers’ eggs, and weave the spider’s web: he that eats of their eggs dies, and from that which is crushed, a viper breaks out.


###### Isaiah 59:6

קֽוּרֵיהֶם֙ לֹֽא־יִהְי֣וּ לְבֶ֔גֶד וְלֹ֥א יִתְכַּסּ֖וּ בְּמַעֲשֵׂיהֶ֑ם מַֽעֲשֵׂיהֶם֙ מַֽעֲשֵׂי־אָ֔וֶן וּפֹ֥עַל חָמָ֖ס בְּכַפֵּיהֶֽם׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Their webs shall not become garments, neither shall they cover themselves with their works: their works are works of iniquity, and the act of violence is in their hands.


###### Isaiah 59:7

רַגְלֵיהֶם֙ לָרַ֣ע יָרֻ֔צוּ וִֽימַהֲר֔וּ לִשְׁפֹּ֖ךְ דָּ֣ם נָקִ֑י מַחְשְׁבֹֽתֵיהֶם֙ מַחְשְׁב֣וֹת אָ֔וֶן שֹׁ֥ד וָשֶׁ֖בֶר בִּמְסִלּוֹתָֽם׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Their feet run to evil, and they make haste to shed innocent blood: their thoughts are thoughts of iniquity; wasting and destruction are in their paths.


###### Isaiah 59:8

דֶּ֤רֶךְ שָׁלוֹם֙ לֹ֣א יָדָ֔עוּ וְאֵ֥ין מִשְׁפָּ֖ט בְּמַעְגְּלוֹתָ֑ם נְתִיבֽוֹתֵיהֶם֙ עִקְּשׁ֣וּ לָהֶ֔ם כֹּ֚ל דֹּרֵ֣ךְ בָּ֔הּ לֹ֥א יָדַ֖ע שָׁלֽוֹם׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
The way of peace they know not; and there is no judgment in their goings: they have made them crooked paths: whoever walks in them knows no peace.


###### Isaiah 59:9

עַל־כֵּ֗ן רָחַ֤ק מִשְׁפָּט֙ מִמֶּ֔נּוּ וְלֹ֥א תַשִּׂיגֵ֖נוּ צְדָקָ֑ה נְקַוֶּ֤ה לָאוֹר֙ וְהִנֵּה־חֹ֔שֶׁךְ לִנְגֹה֖וֹת בָּאֲפֵל֥וֹת נְהַלֵּֽךְ׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Therefore is justice far from us, neither does righteousness overtake us: we wait for light, but behold darkness: for brightness, but we walk in gloom.


###### Isaiah 59:10

נְגַשְׁשָׁ֤ה כַֽעִוְרִים֙ קִ֔יר וּכְאֵ֥ין עֵינַ֖יִם נְגַשֵּׁ֑שָׁה כָּשַׁ֤לְנוּ בַֽצׇּהֳרַ֙יִם֙ כַּנֶּ֔שֶׁף בָּאַשְׁמַנִּ֖ים כַּמֵּתִֽים׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
We grope for the wall like the blind, and we grope as if we had no eyes: we stumble at noonday as in the night; among the strong we are as dead men.


###### Isaiah 59:11

נֶהֱמֶ֤ה כַדֻּבִּים֙ כֻּלָּ֔נוּ וְכַיּוֹנִ֖ים הָגֹ֣ה נֶהְגֶּ֑ה נְקַוֶּ֤ה לַמִּשְׁפָּט֙ וָאַ֔יִן לִישׁוּעָ֖ה רָחֲקָ֥ה מִמֶּֽנּוּ׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
We roar all like bears, we moan and moan like doves: we look for judgment, but there is none; for salvation, but it is far off from us.


###### Isaiah 59:12

כִּֽי־רַבּ֤וּ פְשָׁעֵ֙ינוּ֙ נֶגְדֶּ֔ךָ וְחַטֹּאותֵ֖ינוּ עָ֣נְתָה בָּ֑נוּ כִּֽי־פְשָׁעֵ֣ינוּ אִתָּ֔נוּ וַעֲוֺנֹתֵ֖ינוּ יְדַעֲנֽוּם׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
For our transgressions are multiplied before Thee, and our sins testify against us: for our transgressions are with us; and as for our iniquities, we know them;


###### Isaiah 59:13

פָּשֹׁ֤עַ וְכַחֵשׁ֙ בַּֽיהֹוָ֔ה וְנָס֖וֹג מֵאַחַ֣ר אֱלֹהֵ֑ינוּ דַּבֶּר־עֹ֣שֶׁק וְסָרָ֔ה הֹר֧וֹ וְהֹג֛וֹ מִלֵּ֖ב דִּבְרֵי־שָֽׁקֶר׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
in transgressing and denying the Lord, and departing away from our God, speaking oppression and revolt, conceiving and uttering from the heart words of falsehood.


###### Isaiah 59:14

וְהֻסַּ֤ג אָחוֹר֙ מִשְׁפָּ֔ט וּצְדָקָ֖ה מֵרָח֣וֹק תַּעֲמֹ֑ד כִּֽי־כָשְׁלָ֤ה בָֽרְחוֹב֙ אֱמֶ֔ת וּנְכֹחָ֖ה לֹא־תוּכַ֥ל לָבֽוֹא׃{ס}

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
And judgment is turned away backwards, and justice stands afar off: for truth is fallen in the street and upright dealing cannot enter.


###### Isaiah 59:15

וַתְּהִ֤י הָאֱמֶת֙ נֶעְדֶּ֔רֶת וְסָ֥ר מֵרָ֖ע מִשְׁתּוֹלֵ֑ל וַיַּ֧רְא יְהֹוָ֛ה וַיֵּ֥רַע בְּעֵינָ֖יו כִּי־אֵ֥ין מִשְׁפָּֽט׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
And truth is absent; and he that departs from evil makes himself ridiculous: and the Lord saw it, and it displeased him for there was no judgment.


###### Isaiah 59:16

וַיַּרְא֙ כִּֽי־אֵ֣ין אִ֔ישׁ וַיִּשְׁתּוֹמֵ֖ם כִּ֣י אֵ֣ין מַפְגִּ֑יעַ וַתּ֤וֹשַֽׁע־לוֹ֙ זְרֹע֔וֹ וְצִדְקָת֖וֹ הִ֥יא סְמָכָֽתְהוּ׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
And he saw that there was no man, and was astonished that there was no intercessor: therefore his arm brought salvation to him; and his righ­teousness, it sustained him.


###### Isaiah 59:17

וַיִּלְבַּ֤שׁ צְדָקָה֙ כַּשִּׁרְיָ֔ן וְכ֥וֹבַע יְשׁוּעָ֖ה בְּרֹאשׁ֑וֹ וַיִּלְבַּ֞שׁ בִּגְדֵ֤י נָקָם֙ תִּלְבֹּ֔שֶׁת וַיַּ֥עַט כַּמְעִ֖יל קִנְאָֽה׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
For he put on righteousness as a breastplate, and a helmet of salvation upon his head; and he put on the garments of vengeance for clothing, and was clad with zeal as a cloak.


###### Isaiah 59:18

כְּעַ֤ל גְּמֻלוֹת֙ כְּעַ֣ל יְשַׁלֵּ֔ם חֵמָ֣ה לְצָרָ֔יו גְּמ֖וּל לְאֹיְבָ֑יו לָאִיִּ֖ים גְּמ֥וּל יְשַׁלֵּֽם׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
According to their deeds, so will he repay, fury to his adversaries, recompense to his enemies; to the islands he will repay recompense.


###### Isaiah 59:19

וְיִֽרְא֤וּ מִֽמַּעֲרָב֙ אֶת־שֵׁ֣ם יְהֹוָ֔ה וּמִמִּזְרַח־שֶׁ֖מֶשׁ אֶת־כְּבוֹד֑וֹ כִּֽי־יָב֤וֹא כַנָּהָר֙ צָ֔ר ר֥וּחַ יְהֹוָ֖ה נֹ֥סְסָה בֽוֹ׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
So shall they fear the name of the Lord from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun: when affliction comes like a flood which the wind of the Lord drives forth.


###### Isaiah 59:20

וּבָ֤א לְצִיּוֹן֙ גּוֹאֵ֔ל וּלְשָׁבֵ֥י פֶ֖שַׁע בְּיַֽעֲקֹ֑ב נְאֻ֖ם יְהֹוָֽה׃

But to Żiyyon a redeemer shall come, and to them that turn from transgression in Ya῾aqov, says the Lord.


###### Isaiah 59:21

וַאֲנִ֗י זֹ֣את בְּרִיתִ֤י אוֹתָם֙ אָמַ֣ר יְהֹוָ֔ה רוּחִי֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר עָלֶ֔יךָ וּדְבָרַ֖י אֲשֶׁר־שַׂ֣מְתִּֽי בְּפִ֑יךָ לֹֽא־יָמ֡וּשׁוּ מִפִּ֩יךָ֩ וּמִפִּ֨י זַרְעֲךָ֜ וּמִפִּ֨י זֶ֤רַע זַרְעֲךָ֙ אָמַ֣ר יְהֹוָ֔ה מֵעַתָּ֖ה וְעַד־עוֹלָֽם׃{ס}

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
As for me, this is my covenant with them, says the Lord; My spirit that is upon thee, and my words which I have put in thy mouth, shall not depart out of thy mouth, nor out of the mouth of thy seed, nor out of the mouth of thy seed’s seed, says the Lord, from henceforth and for ever.
