## Jeremiah Chapter 26

###### Jeremiah 26:1

בְּרֵאשִׁ֗ית מַמְלְכ֛וּת יְהוֹיָקִ֥ים בֶּן־יֹאשִׁיָּ֖הוּ מֶ֣לֶךְ יְהוּדָ֑ה הָיָה֙ הַדָּבָ֣ר הַזֶּ֔ה מֵאֵ֥ת יְהֹוָ֖ה לֵאמֹֽר׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
In the beginning of the reign of Yehoyaqim son of Yoshiyyahu king of Yehuda came this word from the Lord, saying,


###### Jeremiah 26:2

כֹּ֣ה**׀** אָמַ֣ר יְהֹוָ֗ה עֲמֹד֮ בַּחֲצַ֣ר בֵּית־יְהֹוָה֒ וְדִבַּרְתָּ֞ עַל־כׇּל־עָרֵ֣י יְהוּדָ֗ה הַבָּאִים֙ לְהִשְׁתַּחֲוֺ֣ת בֵּית־יְהֹוָ֔ה אֵ֚ת כׇּל־הַדְּבָרִ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֥ר צִוִּיתִ֖יךָ לְדַבֵּ֣ר אֲלֵיהֶ֑ם אַל־תִּגְרַ֖ע דָּבָֽר׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Thus says the Lord; Stand in the court of the Lord’s house, and speak to all the cities of Yehuda, which come to worship in the Lord’s house, all the words that I command thee to speak to them; leave nothing out:


###### Jeremiah 26:3

אוּלַ֣י יִשְׁמְע֔וּ וְיָשֻׁ֕בוּ אִ֖ישׁ מִדַּרְכּ֣וֹ הָרָעָ֑ה וְנִחַמְתִּ֣י אֶל־הָרָעָ֗ה אֲשֶׁ֨ר אָנֹכִ֤י חֹשֵׁב֙ לַעֲשׂ֣וֹת לָהֶ֔ם מִפְּנֵ֖י רֹ֥עַ מַעַלְלֵיהֶֽם׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Perhaps they will hearken, and turn every man from his evil way, that I may relent of the evil, which I purpose to do to them because of the evil of their doings.


###### Jeremiah 26:4

וְאָמַרְתָּ֣ אֲלֵיהֶ֔ם כֹּ֖ה אָמַ֣ר יְהֹוָ֑ה אִם־לֹ֤א תִשְׁמְעוּ֙ אֵלַ֔י לָלֶ֙כֶת֙ בְּת֣וֹרָתִ֔י אֲשֶׁ֥ר נָתַ֖תִּי לִפְנֵיכֶֽם׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
And thou shalt say to them, Thus says the Lord; If you will not hearken to me, to walk in my Tora, which I have set before you,


###### Jeremiah 26:5

לִשְׁמֹ֗עַ עַל־דִּבְרֵי֙ עֲבָדַ֣י הַנְּבִאִ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֥ר אָנֹכִ֖י שֹׁלֵ֣חַ אֲלֵיכֶ֑ם וְהַשְׁכֵּ֥ם וְשָׁלֹ֖חַ וְלֹ֥א שְׁמַעְתֶּֽם׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
to hearken to the words of my servants the prophets, whom I send to you, (sending from morning to night, but you have not hearkened;)


###### Jeremiah 26:6

וְנָתַתִּ֛י אֶת־הַבַּ֥יִת הַזֶּ֖ה כְּשִׁלֹ֑ה וְאֶת־הָעִ֤יר (הזאתה) [הַזֹּאת֙] אֶתֵּ֣ן לִקְלָלָ֔ה לְכֹ֖ל גּוֹיֵ֥ הָאָֽרֶץ׃{פ}

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
then will I make this house like Shilo, and will make this city a curse to all the nations of the earth.


###### Jeremiah 26:7

וַֽיִּשְׁמְע֛וּ הַכֹּהֲנִ֥ים וְהַנְּבִאִ֖ים וְכׇל־הָעָ֑ם אֶֽת־יִרְמְיָ֔הוּ מְדַבֵּ֛ר אֶת־הַדְּבָרִ֥ים הָאֵ֖לֶּה בְּבֵ֥ית יְהֹוָֽה׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
So the priests and the prophets and all the people heard Yirmeyahu as he spoke these words in the house of the Lord.


###### Jeremiah 26:8

וַיְהִ֣י**׀** כְּכַלּ֣וֹת יִרְמְיָ֗הוּ לְדַבֵּר֙ אֵ֣ת כׇּל־אֲשֶׁר־צִוָּ֣ה יְהֹוָ֔ה לְדַבֵּ֖ר אֶל־כׇּל־הָעָ֑ם וַיִּתְפְּשׂ֨וּ אֹת֜וֹ הַכֹּהֲנִ֧ים וְהַנְּבִיאִ֛ים וְכׇל־הָעָ֥ם לֵאמֹ֖ר מ֥וֹת תָּמֽוּת׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Now it came to pass, when Yirmeyahu had made an end of speaking all that the Lord had commanded him to speak to all the people, that the priests and the prophets and all the people took hold of him, saying, Thou shalt surely die.


###### Jeremiah 26:9

מַדּ֩וּעַ֩ נִבֵּ֨יתָ בְשֵׁם־יְהֹוָ֜ה לֵאמֹ֗ר כְּשִׁלוֹ֙ יִֽהְיֶה֙ הַבַּ֣יִת הַזֶּ֔ה וְהָעִ֥יר הַזֹּ֛את תֶּחֱרַ֖ב מֵאֵ֣ין יוֹשֵׁ֑ב וַיִּקָּהֵ֧ל כׇּל־הָעָ֛ם אֶֽל־יִרְמְיָ֖הוּ בְּבֵ֥ית יְהֹוָֽה׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Why hast thou prophesied in the name of the Lord, saying, This house shall be like Shilo, and this city shall be desolate without inhabitant? And all the people were gathered against Yirmeyahu in the house of the Lord.


###### Jeremiah 26:10

וַֽיִּשְׁמְע֣וּ**׀** שָׂרֵ֣י יְהוּדָ֗ה אֵ֚ת הַדְּבָרִ֣ים הָאֵ֔לֶּה וַיַּעֲל֥וּ מִבֵּית־הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ בֵּ֣ית יְהֹוָ֑ה וַיֵּ֥שְׁב֛וּ בְּפֶ֥תַח שַֽׁעַר־יְהֹוָ֖ה הֶחָדָֽשׁ׃{ס}

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
When the princes of Yehuda heard these things, then they came up from the king’s house unto the house of the Lord, and sat down in the entry of the new gate of the Lord’s house.


###### Jeremiah 26:11

וַיֹּ֨אמְר֜וּ הַכֹּהֲנִ֤ים וְהַנְּבִאִים֙ אֶל־הַשָּׂרִ֔ים וְאֶל־כׇּל־הָעָ֖ם לֵאמֹ֑ר מִשְׁפַּט־מָ֙וֶת֙ לָאִ֣ישׁ הַזֶּ֔ה כִּ֤י נִבָּא֙ אֶל־הָעִ֣יר הַזֹּ֔את כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר שְׁמַעְתֶּ֖ם בְּאׇזְנֵיכֶֽם׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Then spoke the priests and the prophets to the princes and to all the people, saying, This man is worthy to die; for he has prophesied against this city, as you have heard with your ears.


###### Jeremiah 26:12

וַיֹּ֤אמֶר יִרְמְיָ֙הוּ֙ אֶל־כׇּל־הַשָּׂרִ֔ים וְאֶל־כׇּל־הָעָ֖ם לֵאמֹ֑ר יְהֹוָ֣ה שְׁלָחַ֗נִי לְהִנָּבֵ֞א אֶל־הַבַּ֤יִת הַזֶּה֙ וְאֶל־הָעִ֣יר הַזֹּ֔את אֵ֥ת כׇּל־הַדְּבָרִ֖ים אֲשֶׁ֥ר שְׁמַעְתֶּֽם׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Then spoke Yirmeyahu to all the princes and to all the people, saying, The Lord sent me to prophesy against this house and against this city all the words that you have heard.


###### Jeremiah 26:13

וְעַתָּ֗ה הֵיטִ֤יבוּ דַרְכֵיכֶם֙ וּמַ֣עַלְלֵיכֶ֔ם וְשִׁמְע֕וּ בְּק֖וֹל יְהֹוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֵיכֶ֑ם וְיִנָּחֵ֣ם יְהֹוָ֔ה אֶל־הָ֣רָעָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר דִּבֶּ֖ר עֲלֵיכֶֽם׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Therefore now amend your ways and your doings, and obey the voice of the Lord your God; and the Lord will relent of the evil that he has pronounced against you.


###### Jeremiah 26:14

וַאֲנִ֖י הִנְנִ֣י בְיֶדְכֶ֑ם עֲשׂוּ־לִ֛י כַּטּ֥וֹב וְכַיָּשָׁ֖ר בְּעֵינֵיכֶֽם׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
As for me, behold, I am in your hand: do with me as seems good and proper in your eyes.


###### Jeremiah 26:15

אַ֣ךְ**׀** יָדֹ֣עַ תֵּדְע֗וּ כִּ֣י אִם־מְמִתִ֣ים אַתֶּם֮ אֹתִי֒ כִּי־דָ֣ם נָקִ֗י אַתֶּם֙ נֹתְנִ֣ים עֲלֵיכֶ֔ם וְאֶל־הָעִ֥יר הַזֹּ֖את וְאֶל־יֹשְׁבֶ֑יהָ כִּ֣י בֶאֱמֶ֗ת שְׁלָחַ֤נִי יְהֹוָה֙ עֲלֵיכֶ֔ם לְדַבֵּר֙ בְּאׇזְנֵיכֶ֔ם אֵ֥ת כׇּל־הַדְּבָרִ֖ים הָאֵֽלֶּה׃{ס}

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
But know for certain, that if you put me to death, you shall surely bring innocent blood upon yourselves, and upon this city, and upon its inhabitants: for of a truth the Lord has sent me to you to speak all these words in your ears.


###### Jeremiah 26:16

וַיֹּאמְר֤וּ הַשָּׂרִים֙ וְכׇל־הָעָ֔ם אֶל־הַכֹּהֲנִ֖ים וְאֶל־הַנְּבִיאִ֑ים אֵין־לָאִ֤ישׁ הַזֶּה֙ מִשְׁפַּט־מָ֔וֶת כִּ֗י בְּשֵׁ֛ם יְהֹוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֵ֖ינוּ דִּבֶּ֥ר אֵלֵֽינוּ׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Then said the princes and all the people to the priests and to the prophets; This man is not worthy to die: for he has spoken to us in the name of the Lord our God.


###### Jeremiah 26:17

וַיָּקֻ֣מוּ אֲנָשִׁ֔ים מִזִּקְנֵ֖י הָאָ֑רֶץ וַיֹּ֣אמְר֔וּ אֶֽל־כׇּל־קְהַ֥ל הָעָ֖ם לֵאמֹֽר׃

Then rose up certain of the elders of the land, and spoke to all the assembly of the people, saying,


###### Jeremiah 26:18

(מיכיה) [מִיכָה֙] הַמּ֣וֹרַשְׁתִּ֔י הָיָ֣ה נִבָּ֔א בִּימֵ֖י חִזְקִיָּ֣הוּ מֶלֶךְ־יְהוּדָ֑ה וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֶל־כׇּל־עַם֩ יְהוּדָ֨ה לֵאמֹ֜ר כֹּה־אָמַ֣ר**׀** יְהֹוָ֣ה צְבָא֗וֹת צִיּ֞וֹן שָׂדֶ֤ה תֵחָרֵשׁ֙ וִירוּשָׁלַ֙יִם֙ עִיִּ֣ים תִּֽהְיֶ֔ה וְהַ֥ר הַבַּ֖יִת לְבָמ֥וֹת יָֽעַר׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Mikha the Morashti prophesied in the days of Ḥizqiyyahu king of Yehuda, and spoke to all the people of Yehuda, saying, Thus says the Lord of hosts; Żiyyon shall be plowed like a field, and Yerushalayim shall become heaps, and the mountain of the house as the high places of a forest.

הֶהָמֵ֣ת הֱ֠מִתֻ֠הוּ חִזְקִיָּ֨הוּ מֶלֶךְ־יְהוּדָ֜ה וְכׇל־יְהוּדָ֗ה הֲלֹא֮ יָרֵ֣א אֶת־יְהֹוָה֒ וַיְחַל֙ אֶת־פְּנֵ֣י יְהֹוָ֔ה וַיִּנָּ֣חֶם יְהֹוָ֔ה אֶל־הָרָעָ֖ה אֲשֶׁר־דִּבֶּ֣ר עֲלֵיהֶ֑ם וַאֲנַ֗חְנוּ עֹשִׂ֛ים רָעָ֥ה גְדוֹלָ֖ה עַל־נַפְשׁוֹתֵֽינוּ׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Did Ḥizqiyyahu king of Yehuda and all Yehuda put him to death? did he not rather fear the Lord, and beseech the Lord, and the Lord repented of the evil which he had pronounced against them? And shall we bring such a great evil against our souls?

וְגַם־אִ֗ישׁ הָיָ֤ה מִתְנַבֵּא֙ בְּשֵׁ֣ם יְהֹוָ֔ה אוּרִיָּ֙הוּ֙ בֶּֽן־שְׁמַעְיָ֔הוּ מִקִּרְיַ֖ת הַיְּעָרִ֑ים וַיִּנָּבֵ֞א עַל־הָעִ֤יר הַזֹּאת֙ וְעַל־הָאָ֣רֶץ הַזֹּ֔את כְּכֹ֖ל דִּבְרֵ֥י יִרְמְיָֽהוּ׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
And there was also a man that prophesied in the name of the Lord, Uriyyahu the son of Shema῾yahu of Qiryat-hayye῾arim, who prophesied against this city and against this land according to all the words of Yirmeyahu:

וַיִּשְׁמַ֣ע הַמֶּֽלֶךְ־יְ֠הוֹיָקִ֠ים וְכׇל־גִּבּוֹרָ֤יו וְכׇל־הַשָּׂרִים֙ אֶת־דְּבָרָ֔יו וַיְבַקֵּ֥שׁ הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ הֲמִית֑וֹ וַיִּשְׁמַ֤ע אוּרִיָּ֙הוּ֙ וַיִּרָ֔א וַיִּבְרַ֖ח וַיָּבֹ֥א מִצְרָֽיִם׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
and when Yehoyaqim the king, with all his mighty men, and all the princes, heard his words, the king sought to put him to death: but when Uriyyahu heard it, he was afraid, and fled, and went into Miżrayim;

וַיִּשְׁלַ֞ח הַמֶּ֧לֶךְ יְהוֹיָקִ֛ים אֲנָשִׁ֖ים מִצְרָ֑יִם אֵ֣ת אֶלְנָתָ֧ן בֶּן־עַכְבּ֛וֹר וַאֲנָשִׁ֥ים אִתּ֖וֹ אֶל־מִצְרָֽיִם׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
and Yehoyaqim the king sent men to Miżrayim, namely, Elnatan the son of ῾Akhbor, and others with him into Miżrayim.


###### Jeremiah 26:23

וַיּוֹצִ֨יאוּ אֶת־אוּרִיָּ֜הוּ מִמִּצְרַ֗יִם וַיְבִאֻ֙הוּ֙ אֶל־הַמֶּ֣לֶךְ יְהוֹיָקִ֔ים וַיַּכֵּ֖הוּ בֶּחָ֑רֶב וַיַּשְׁלֵךְ֙ אֶת־נִבְלָת֔וֹ אֶל־קִבְרֵ֖י בְּנֵ֥י הָעָֽם׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
And they fetched Uriyyahu out of Miżrayim, and brought him to Yehoyaqim the king, who slew him with the sword, and cast his dead body upon the graves of the common people.


###### Jeremiah 26:24

אַ֗ךְ יַ֚ד אֲחִיקָ֣ם בֶּן־שָׁפָ֔ן הָיְתָ֖ה אֶֽת־יִרְמְיָ֑הוּ לְבִלְתִּ֛י תֵּת־אֹת֥וֹ בְיַד־הָעָ֖ם לַהֲמִיתֽוֹ׃{פ}

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Nevertheless the hand of Aĥiqam the son of Shafan was with Yirmeyahu, that they should not give him into the hand of the people to put him to death.
