## Jeremiah Chapter 35

###### Jeremiah 35:1

הַדָּבָ֛ר אֲשֶׁר־הָיָ֥ה אֶֽל־יִרְמְיָ֖הוּ מֵאֵ֣ת יְהֹוָ֑ה בִּימֵ֨י יְהוֹיָקִ֧ים בֶּן־יֹאשִׁיָּ֛הוּ מֶ֥לֶךְ יְהוּדָ֖ה לֵאמֹֽר׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
The word which came to Yirmeyahu from the Lord in the days of Yehoyaqim the son of Yoshiyyahu king of Yehuda, saying,


###### Jeremiah 35:2

הָלוֹךְ֮ אֶל־בֵּ֣ית הָרֵכָבִים֒ וְדִבַּרְתָּ֣ אוֹתָ֔ם וַהֲבִֽאוֹתָם֙ בֵּ֣ית יְהֹוָ֔ה אֶל־אַחַ֖ת הַלְּשָׁכ֑וֹת וְהִשְׁקִיתָ֥ אוֹתָ֖ם יָֽיִן׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Go to the house of the Rekhavim, and speak to them, and bring them into the house of the Lord, into one of the chambers, and give them wine to drink.


###### Jeremiah 35:3

וָאֶקַּ֞ח אֶת־יַאֲזַנְיָ֤ה בֶֽן־יִרְמְיָ֙הוּ֙ בֶּן־חֲבַצִּנְיָ֔ה וְאֶת־אֶחָ֖יו וְאֶת־כׇּל־בָּנָ֑יו וְאֵ֖ת כׇּל־בֵּ֥ית הָרֵכָבִֽים׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Then I took Ya᾽azanya the son of Yirmeyahu, the son of Ḥavażżinya, and his brothers, and all his sons, and the whole house of the Rekhavim;


###### Jeremiah 35:4

וָאָבִ֤א אֹתָם֙ בֵּ֣ית יְהֹוָ֔ה אֶל־לִשְׁכַּ֗ת בְּנֵ֛י חָנָ֥ן בֶּן־יִגְדַּלְיָ֖הוּ אִ֣ישׁ הָאֱלֹהִ֑ים אֲשֶׁר־אֵ֙צֶל֙ לִשְׁכַּ֣ת הַשָּׂרִ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֣ר מִמַּ֗עַל לְלִשְׁכַּ֛ת מַעֲשֵׂיָ֥הוּ בֶן־שַׁלֻּ֖ם שֹׁמֵ֥ר הַסַּֽף׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
and I brought them into the house of the Lord, into the chamber of the sons of Ḥanan, the son of Yigdalyahu, a man of God, which was by the chamber of the princes, which was above the chamber of Ma῾aseyahu the son of Shallum, the keeper of the door:


###### Jeremiah 35:5

וָאֶתֵּ֞ן לִפְנֵ֣י**׀** בְּנֵ֣י בֵית־הָרֵכָבִ֗ים גְּבִעִ֛ים מְלֵאִ֥ים יַ֖יִן וְכֹס֑וֹת וָאֹמַ֥ר אֲלֵיהֶ֖ם שְׁתוּ־יָֽיִן׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
and I set before the sons of the house of the Rekhavim goblets full of wine, and cups, and I said to them, Drink wine.


###### Jeremiah 35:6

וַיֹּאמְר֖וּ לֹ֣א נִשְׁתֶּה־יָּ֑יִן כִּי֩ יוֹנָדָ֨ב בֶּן־רֵכָ֜ב אָבִ֗ינוּ צִוָּ֤ה עָלֵ֙ינוּ֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר לֹ֧א תִשְׁתּוּ־יַ֛יִן אַתֶּ֥ם וּבְנֵיכֶ֖ם עַד־עוֹלָֽם׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
But they said, We will drink no wine: for Yonadav the son of Rekhav our father commanded us, saying, You shall drink no wine, neither you, nor your sons for ever:


###### Jeremiah 35:7

וּבַ֣יִת לֹֽא־תִבְנ֗וּ וְזֶ֤רַע לֹֽא־תִזְרָ֙עוּ֙ וְכֶ֣רֶם לֹֽא־תִטָּ֔עוּ וְלֹ֥א יִהְיֶ֖ה לָכֶ֑ם כִּ֠י בׇּאֳהָלִ֤ים תֵּֽשְׁבוּ֙ כׇּל־יְמֵיכֶ֔ם לְמַ֨עַן תִּֽחְי֜וּ יָמִ֤ים רַבִּים֙ עַל־פְּנֵ֣י הָאֲדָמָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר אַתֶּ֖ם גָּרִ֥ים שָֽׁם׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Neither shall you build a house, nor sow seed, nor plant a vineyard, nor have one: but all your days you shall dwell in tents; that you may live many days in the land where you sojourn.


###### Jeremiah 35:8

וַנִּשְׁמַ֗ע בְּק֨וֹל יְהוֹנָדָ֤ב בֶּן־רֵכָב֙ אָבִ֔ינוּ לְכֹ֖ל אֲשֶׁ֣ר צִוָּ֑נוּ לְבִלְתִּ֤י שְׁתֽוֹת־יַ֙יִן֙ כׇּל־יָמֵ֔ינוּ אֲנַ֣חְנוּ נָשֵׁ֔ינוּ בָּנֵ֖ינוּ וּבְנֹתֵֽינוּ׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
And we have obeyed the voice of Yonadav the son of Rekhav our father in all that he charged us, to drink no wine all our days, we, our wives, our sons, and our daughters;


###### Jeremiah 35:9

וּלְבִלְתִּ֛י בְּנ֥וֹת בָּתִּ֖ים לְשִׁבְתֵּ֑נוּ וְכֶ֧רֶם וְשָׂדֶ֛ה וָזֶ֖רַע לֹ֥א יִֽהְיֶה־לָּֽנוּ׃

nor to build houses for us to dwell in; neither have we vineyard, nor field, nor seed:


###### Jeremiah 35:10

וַנֵּ֖שֶׁב בׇּאֳהָלִ֑ים וַנִּשְׁמַ֣ע וַנַּ֔עַשׂ כְּכֹ֥ל אֲשֶׁר־צִוָּ֖נוּ יוֹנָדָ֥ב אָבִֽינוּ׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
but we have dwelt in tents, and have obeyed, and done according to all that Yonadav our father commanded us.


###### Jeremiah 35:11

וַיְהִ֗י בַּעֲל֨וֹת נְבוּכַדְרֶאצַּ֥ר מֶֽלֶךְ־בָּבֶל֮ אֶל־הָאָ֒רֶץ֒ וַנֹּ֗אמֶר בֹּ֚אוּ וְנָב֣וֹא יְרוּשָׁלַ֔͏ִם מִפְּנֵי֙ חֵ֣יל הַכַּשְׂדִּ֔ים וּמִפְּנֵ֖י חֵ֣יל אֲרָ֑ם וַנֵּ֖שֶׁב בִּירוּשָׁלָֽ͏ִם׃{פ}

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
But it came to pass, when Nevukhadreżżar king of Bavel came up into the land that we said, Come, and let us go to Yerushalayim for fear of the army of the Kasdim, and for fear of the army of Aram: so we dwell at Yerushalayim.

וַֽיְהִי֙ דְּבַר־יְהֹוָ֔ה אֶֽל־יִרְמְיָ֖הוּ לֵאמֹֽר׃

Then came the word of the Lord to Yirmeyahu, saying,

כֹּה־אָמַ֞ר יְהֹוָ֤ה צְבָאוֹת֙ אֱלֹהֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל הָלֹ֤ךְ וְאָֽמַרְתָּ֙ לְאִ֣ישׁ יְהוּדָ֔ה וּלְיוֹשְׁבֵ֖י יְרוּשָׁלָ֑͏ִם הֲל֨וֹא תִקְח֥וּ מוּסָ֛ר לִשְׁמֹ֥עַ אֶל־דְּבָרַ֖י נְאֻם־יְהֹוָֽה׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Yisra᾽el, Go and tell the men of Yehuda and the inhabitants of Yerushalayim, Will you not receive instruction to hearken to my words? says the Lord.


###### Jeremiah 35:14

הוּקַ֡ם אֶת־דִּבְרֵ֣י יְהוֹנָדָ֣ב בֶּן־רֵ֠כָ֠ב אֲשֶׁר־צִוָּ֨ה אֶת־בָּנָ֜יו לְבִלְתִּ֣י שְׁתֽוֹת־יַ֗יִן וְלֹ֤א שָׁתוּ֙ עַד־הַיּ֣וֹם הַזֶּ֔ה כִּ֣י שָֽׁמְע֔וּ אֵ֖ת מִצְוַ֣ת אֲבִיהֶ֑ם וְאָ֨נֹכִ֜י דִּבַּ֤רְתִּי אֲלֵיכֶם֙ הַשְׁכֵּ֣ם וְדַבֵּ֔ר וְלֹ֥א שְׁמַעְתֶּ֖ם אֵלָֽי׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
The words of Yonadav the son of Rekhav, that he commanded his sons not to drink wine, has been kept; for to this day they drink none, but obey their father’s commandment: yet I have spoken to you, from morning till night; but you did not hearken to me.


###### Jeremiah 35:15

וָאֶשְׁלַ֣ח אֲלֵיכֶ֣ם אֶת־כׇּל־עֲבָדַ֣י הַנְּבִאִ֣ים׀הַשְׁכֵּ֣ם וְשָׁלֹ֣חַ׀לֵאמֹ֡ר שֻֽׁבוּ־נָ֡א אִישׁ֩ מִדַּרְכּ֨וֹ הָרָעָ֜ה וְהֵיטִ֣יבוּ מַעַלְלֵיכֶ֗ם וְאַל־תֵּ֨לְכ֜וּ אַחֲרֵ֨י אֱלֹהִ֤ים אֲחֵרִים֙ לְעׇבְדָ֔ם וּשְׁבוּ֙ אֶל־הָ֣אֲדָמָ֔ה אֲשֶׁר־נָתַ֥תִּי לָכֶ֖ם וְלַאֲבֹֽתֵיכֶ֑ם וְלֹ֤א הִטִּיתֶם֙ אֶֽת־אׇזְנְכֶ֔ם וְלֹ֥א שְׁמַעְתֶּ֖ם אֵלָֽי׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
I have also sent to you all my servants the prophets, sending them from morning till night, saying, Return now every man from his evil way, and amend your doings, and go not after other gods to serve them, and then you shall dwell in the land which I have given to you and to your fathers: but you have not inclined your ear, nor hearkened to me.


###### Jeremiah 35:16

כִּ֣י הֵקִ֗ימוּ בְּנֵי֙ יְהוֹנָדָ֣ב בֶּן־רֵכָ֔ב אֶת־מִצְוַ֥ת אֲבִיהֶ֖ם אֲשֶׁ֣ר צִוָּ֑ם וְהָעָ֣ם הַזֶּ֔ה לֹ֥א שָׁמְע֖וּ אֵלָֽי׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
For the sons of Yonadav the son of Rekhav have kept the commandment of their father, which he commanded them; but this people has not hearkened to me:


###### Jeremiah 35:17

לָ֠כֵ֠ן כֹּֽה־אָמַ֨ר יְהֹוָ֜ה אֱלֹהֵ֤י צְבָאוֹת֙ אֱלֹהֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל הִנְנִ֧י מֵבִ֣יא אֶל־יְהוּדָ֗ה וְאֶ֤ל כׇּל־יֽוֹשְׁבֵי֙ יְר֣וּשָׁלַ֔͏ִם אֵ֚ת כׇּל־הָ֣רָעָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר דִּבַּ֖רְתִּי עֲלֵיהֶ֑ם יַ֣עַן דִּבַּ֤רְתִּי אֲלֵיהֶם֙ וְלֹ֣א שָׁמֵ֔עוּ וָאֶקְרָ֥א לָהֶ֖ם וְלֹ֥א עָנֽוּ׃

therefore thus says the Lord God of hosts, the God of Yisra᾽el; Behold, I will bring upon Yehuda and upon all the inhabitants of Yerushalayim all the evil that I have pronounced against them: because I have spoken to them, but they have not heard; and I have called to them, but they have not answered.

וּלְבֵ֨ית הָרֵכָבִ֜ים אָמַ֣ר יִרְמְיָ֗הוּ כֹּֽה־אָמַ֞ר יְהֹוָ֤ה צְבָאוֹת֙ אֱלֹהֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל יַ֚עַן אֲשֶׁ֣ר שְׁמַעְתֶּ֔ם עַל־מִצְוַ֖ת יְהוֹנָדָ֣ב אֲבִיכֶ֑ם וַֽתִּשְׁמְרוּ֙ אֶת־כׇּל־מִצְוֺתָ֔יו וַֽתַּעֲשׂ֔וּ כְּכֹ֥ל אֲשֶׁר־צִוָּ֖ה אֶתְכֶֽם׃

And Yirmeyahu said to the house of the Rekhavim, Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Yisra᾽el; Because you have obeyed the commandment of Yonadav your father, and kept all his precepts, and done according to all that he has commanded you:

לָכֵ֗ן כֹּ֥ה אָמַ֛ר יְהֹוָ֥ה צְבָא֖וֹת אֱלֹהֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל לֹא־יִכָּרֵ֨ת אִ֜ישׁ לְיוֹנָדָ֧ב בֶּן־רֵכָ֛ב עֹמֵ֥ד לְפָנַ֖י כׇּל־הַיָּמִֽים׃{פ}

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
therefore thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Yisra᾽el; Yonadav the son of Rekhav shall not lack a man to stand before me for ever.
