## Jeremiah Chapter 41

###### Jeremiah 41:1

וַיְהִ֣י**׀** בַּחֹ֣דֶשׁ הַשְּׁבִיעִ֗י בָּ֣א יִשְׁמָעֵ֣אל בֶּן־נְתַנְיָ֣ה בֶן־אֱלִישָׁמָ֣ע מִזֶּ֣רַע הַ֠מְּלוּכָ֠ה וְרַבֵּ֨י הַמֶּ֜לֶךְ וַעֲשָׂרָ֨ה אֲנָשִׁ֥ים אִתּ֛וֹ אֶל־גְּדַלְיָ֥הוּ בֶן־אֲחִיקָ֖ם הַמִּצְפָּ֑תָה וַיֹּ֨אכְלוּ שָׁ֥ם לֶ֛חֶם יַחְדָּ֖ו בַּמִּצְפָּֽה׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Now it came to pass in the seventh month, that Yishma᾽el the son of Netanya the son of Elishama, of the seed royal, and some of the chief officers of the king, and ten men with him, came to Gedalyahu the son of Aĥiqam to Miżpa; and there they did eat bread together in Miżpa.

וַיָּ֩קׇם֩ יִשְׁמָעֵ֨אל בֶּן־נְתַנְיָ֜ה וַעֲשֶׂ֥רֶת הָאֲנָשִׁ֣ים**׀** אֲשֶׁר־הָי֣וּ אִתּ֗וֹ וַ֠יַּכּ֠וּ אֶת־גְּדַלְיָ֨הוּ בֶן־אֲחִיקָ֧ם בֶּן־שָׁפָ֛ן בַּחֶ֖רֶב וַיָּ֣מֶת אֹת֑וֹ אֲשֶׁר־הִפְקִ֥יד מֶלֶךְ־בָּבֶ֖ל בָּאָֽרֶץ׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Then Yishma᾽el the son of Netanya and the ten men that were with him arose, and struck Gedalyahu the son of Aĥiqam the son of Shafan with the sword, and slew him, whom the king of Bavel had made governor over the land.


###### Jeremiah 41:3

וְאֵ֣ת כׇּל־הַיְּהוּדִ֗ים אֲשֶׁר־הָי֨וּ אִתּ֤וֹ אֶת־גְּדַלְיָ֙הוּ֙ בַּמִּצְפָּ֔ה וְאֶת־הַכַּשְׂדִּ֖ים אֲשֶׁ֣ר נִמְצְאוּ־שָׁ֑ם אֵ֚ת אַנְשֵׁ֣י הַמִּלְחָמָ֔ה הִכָּ֖ה יִשְׁמָעֵֽאל׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
And Yishma᾽el slew all the men of Yehuda that were with him, with Gedalyahu, at Miżpa, and the Kasdim that were found there, and the men of war.


###### Jeremiah 41:4

וַיְהִ֛י בַּיּ֥וֹם הַשֵּׁנִ֖י לְהָמִ֣ית אֶת־גְּדַלְיָ֑הוּ וְאִ֖ישׁ לֹ֥א יָדָֽע׃

And it came to pass on the second day after the killing of Gedalyahu, (and no man knew it,)


###### Jeremiah 41:5

וַיָּבֹ֣אוּ אֲ֠נָשִׁ֠ים מִשְּׁכֶ֞ם מִשִּׁל֤וֹ וּמִשֹּֽׁמְרוֹן֙ שְׁמֹנִ֣ים אִ֔ישׁ מְגֻלְּחֵ֥י זָקָ֛ן וּקְרֻעֵ֥י בְגָדִ֖ים וּמִתְגֹּֽדְדִ֑ים וּמִנְחָ֤ה וּלְבוֹנָה֙ בְּיָדָ֔ם לְהָבִ֖יא בֵּ֥ית יְהֹוָֽה׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
that there came certain men from Shekhem, from Shilo, and from Shomeron, eighty men, (their beards shaven, and their clothes rent, and having cut themselves,) with offerings and incense in their hand, to bring them to the house of the Lord.


###### Jeremiah 41:6

וַ֠יֵּצֵ֠א יִשְׁמָעֵ֨אל בֶּן־נְתַנְיָ֤ה לִקְרָאתָם֙ מִן־הַמִּצְפָּ֔ה הֹלֵ֥ךְ הָלֹ֖ךְ וּבֹכֶ֑ה וַֽיְהִי֙ כִּפְגֹ֣שׁ אֹתָ֔ם וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֲלֵיהֶ֔ם בֹּ֖אוּ אֶל־גְּדַלְיָ֥הוּ בֶן־אֲחִיקָֽם׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
And Yishma᾽el the son of Netanya went out of Miżpa to meet them, weeping as he went: and it came to pass, as he met them, that he said to them, Come to Gedalyahu the son of Aĥiqam.


###### Jeremiah 41:7

וַיְהִ֕י כְּבוֹאָ֖ם אֶל־תּ֣וֹךְ הָעִ֑יר וַיִּשְׁחָטֵ֞ם יִשְׁמָעֵ֤אל בֶּן־נְתַנְיָה֙ אֶל־תּ֣וֹךְ הַבּ֔וֹר ה֖וּא וְהָאֲנָשִׁ֥ים אֲשֶׁר־אִתּֽוֹ׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
And when they came into the midst of the city, Yishma᾽el the son of Netanya slew them, and cast them into the midst of the pit, he, and the men that were with him.


###### Jeremiah 41:8

וַעֲשָׂרָ֨ה אֲנָשִׁ֜ים נִמְצְאוּ־בָ֗ם וַיֹּאמְר֤וּ אֶל־יִשְׁמָעֵאל֙ אַל־תְּמִתֵ֔נוּ כִּֽי־יֶשׁ־לָ֤נוּ מַטְמֹנִים֙ בַּשָּׂדֶ֔ה חִטִּ֥ים וּשְׂעֹרִ֖ים וְשֶׁ֣מֶן וּדְבָ֑שׁ וַיֶּחְדַּ֕ל וְלֹ֥א הֱמִיתָ֖ם בְּת֥וֹךְ אֲחֵיהֶֽם׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
But ten men were found among them that said to Yishma᾽el, Slay us not: for we have in the countryside hidden stores, of wheat, and of barley, and of oil, and of honey. So he desisted, and did not slay them among their brethren.


###### Jeremiah 41:9

וְהַבּ֗וֹר אֲשֶׁר֩ הִשְׁלִ֨יךְ שָׁ֤ם יִשְׁמָעֵאל֙ אֵ֣ת**׀** כׇּל־פִּגְרֵ֣י הָאֲנָשִׁ֗ים אֲשֶׁ֤ר הִכָּה֙ בְּיַד־גְּדַלְיָ֔הוּ ה֗וּא אֲשֶׁ֤ר עָשָׂה֙ הַמֶּ֣לֶךְ אָסָ֔א מִפְּנֵ֖י בַּעְשָׁ֣א מֶלֶךְ־יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל אֹת֗וֹ מִלֵּ֛א יִשְׁמָעֵ֥אל בֶּן־נְתַנְיָ֖הוּ חֲלָלִֽים׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Now the pit wherein into which Yishma᾽el had cast all the dead bodies of the men, whom he had slain because of Gedalyahu, was that which Asa the king had made for fear of Ba῾sha king of Yisra᾽el: and Yishma᾽el the son of Netanyahu filled it with the slain.

וַיִּ֣שְׁבְּ׀יִ֠שְׁמָעֵ֠אל אֶת־כׇּל־שְׁאֵרִ֨ית הָעָ֜ם אֲשֶׁ֣ר בַּמִּצְפָּ֗ה אֶת־בְּנ֤וֹת הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ וְאֶת־כׇּל־הָעָם֙ הַנִּשְׁאָרִ֣ים בַּמִּצְפָּ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֣ר הִפְקִ֗יד נְבֽוּזַרְאֲדָן֙ רַב־טַבָּחִ֔ים אֶת־גְּדַלְיָ֖הוּ בֶּן־אֲחִיקָ֑ם וַיִּשְׁבֵּם֙ יִשְׁמָעֵ֣אל בֶּן־נְתַנְיָ֔ה וַיֵּ֕לֶךְ לַעֲבֹ֖ר אֶל־בְּנֵ֥י עַמּֽוֹן׃{ס}

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Then Yishma᾽el carried away captive all the residue of the people that were in Miżpa, the king’s daughters, and all the people that remained in Miżpa, whom Nevuzar᾽adan the captain of the guard had committed to Gedalyahu the son of Aĥiqam: and Yishma᾽el the son of Netanya carried them away captive, and departed to go over to the children of ῾Ammon.

וַיִּשְׁמַע֙ יוֹחָנָ֣ן בֶּן־קָרֵ֔חַ וְכׇל־שָׂרֵ֥י הַחֲיָלִ֖ים אֲשֶׁ֣ר אִתּ֑וֹ אֵ֤ת כׇּל־הָרָעָה֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר עָשָׂ֔ה יִשְׁמָעֵ֖אל בֶּן־נְתַנְיָֽה׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
But when Yoĥanan the son of Qareaĥ, and all the captains of the forces that were with him, heard of all the evil that Yishma᾽el the son of Netanya had done,


###### Jeremiah 41:12

וַיִּקְחוּ֙ אֶת־כׇּל־הָ֣אֲנָשִׁ֔ים וַיֵּ֣לְכ֔וּ לְהִלָּחֵ֖ם עִם־יִשְׁמָעֵ֣אל בֶּן־נְתַנְיָ֑ה וַיִּמְצְא֣וּ אֹת֔וֹ אֶל־מַ֥יִם רַבִּ֖ים אֲשֶׁ֥ר בְּגִבְעֽוֹן׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
then they took all the men, and went to fight with Yishma᾽el the son of Netanya, and found him by the great pool of waters that are in Giv῾on.


###### Jeremiah 41:13

וַיְהִ֗י כִּרְא֤וֹת כׇּל־הָעָם֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר אֶת־יִשְׁמָעֵ֔אל אֶת־יֽוֹחָנָן֙ בֶּן־קָרֵ֔חַ וְאֵ֛ת כׇּל־שָׂרֵ֥י הַחֲיָלִ֖ים אֲשֶׁ֣ר אִתּ֑וֹ וַיִּשְׂמָֽחוּ׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Now it came to pass, that when all the people who were with Yishma᾽el saw Yoĥanan the son of Qareaĥ, and all the captains of the forces that were with him, then they were glad.


###### Jeremiah 41:14

וַיָּסֹ֙בּוּ֙ כׇּל־הָעָ֔ם אֲשֶׁר־שָׁבָ֥ה יִשְׁמָעֵ֖אל מִן־הַמִּצְפָּ֑ה וַיָּשֻׁ֙בוּ֙ וַיֵּ֣לְכ֔וּ אֶל־יוֹחָנָ֖ן בֶּן־קָרֵֽחַ׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
So all the people that Yishma᾽el had carried away captive from Miżpa turned about and came back, and went to Yoĥanan the son of Qareaĥ.


###### Jeremiah 41:15

וְיִשְׁמָעֵ֣אל בֶּן־נְתַנְיָ֗ה נִמְלַט֙ בִּשְׁמֹנָ֣ה אֲנָשִׁ֔ים מִפְּנֵ֖י יוֹחָנָ֑ן וַיֵּ֖לֶךְ אֶל־בְּנֵ֥י עַמּֽוֹן׃{ס}

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
But Yishma᾽el the son of Netanya escaped from Yoĥanan with eight men, and went to the children of ‘Ammon.


###### Jeremiah 41:16

וַיִּקַּח֩ יוֹחָנָ֨ן בֶּן־קָרֵ֜חַ וְכׇל־שָׂרֵ֧י הַחֲיָלִ֣ים אֲשֶׁר־אִתּ֗וֹ אֵ֣ת כׇּל־שְׁאֵרִ֤ית הָעָם֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר הֵ֠שִׁ֠יב מֵאֵ֨ת יִשְׁמָעֵ֤אל בֶּן־נְתַנְיָה֙ מִן־הַמִּצְפָּ֔ה אַחַ֣ר הִכָּ֔ה אֶת־גְּדַלְיָ֖ה בֶּן־אֲחִיקָ֑ם גְּבָרִ֞ים אַנְשֵׁ֣י הַמִּלְחָמָ֗ה וְנָשִׁ֤ים וְטַף֙ וְסָ֣רִסִ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֥ר הֵשִׁ֖יב מִגִּבְעֽוֹן׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Then Yoĥanan the son of Qareaĥ, and all the captains of the forces that were with him, took all the remnant of the people from Miżpa, whom he had recovered from Yishma᾽el the son of Netanya, (after the latter had slain Gedalya the son of Aĥiqam,) mighty men of war, and the women, and the children, and the eunuchs whom he then brought from Giv῾on:

וַיֵּלְכ֗וּ וַיֵּֽשְׁבוּ֙ בְּגֵר֣וּת (כמוהם) [כִּמְהָ֔ם] אֲשֶׁר־אֵ֖צֶל בֵּ֣ית לָ֑חֶם לָלֶ֖כֶת לָב֥וֹא מִצְרָֽיִם׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
and they departed, and dwelt in Gerut-kimaham, which is by Bet-leĥem, to go to enter into Miżrayim,


###### Jeremiah 41:18

מִפְּנֵי֙ הַכַּשְׂדִּ֔ים כִּ֥י יָֽרְא֖וּ מִפְּנֵיהֶ֑ם כִּֽי־הִכָּ֞ה יִשְׁמָעֵ֣אל בֶּן־נְתַנְיָ֗ה אֶת־גְּדַלְיָ֙הוּ֙ בֶּן־אֲחִיקָ֔ם אֲשֶׁר־הִפְקִ֥יד מֶלֶךְ־בָּבֶ֖ל בָּאָֽרֶץ׃{פ}

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
because of the Kasdim: for they were afraid of them, because of Yishma᾽el the son of Netanya had slain Gedalyahu the son of Aĥiqam, whom the king of Bavel had made governor over the land.
