## Jeremiah Chapter 9

###### Jeremiah 9:1

מִֽי־יִתְּנֵ֣נִי בַמִּדְבָּ֗ר מְלוֹן֙ אֹֽרְחִ֔ים וְאֶֽעֶזְבָה֙ אֶת־עַמִּ֔י וְאֵלְכָ֖ה מֵאִתָּ֑ם כִּ֤י כֻלָּם֙ מְנָ֣אֲפִ֔ים עֲצֶ֖רֶת בֹּגְדִֽים׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Oh, that I were in the wilderness, in a lodging place of wayfaring men; that I might leave my people, and go from them! for they are all adulterers, an assembly of treacherous men.


###### Jeremiah 9:2

וַֽיַּדְרְכ֤וּ אֶת־לְשׁוֹנָם֙ קַשְׁתָּ֣ם שֶׁ֔קֶר וְלֹ֥א לֶאֱמוּנָ֖ה גָּבְר֣וּ בָאָ֑רֶץ כִּי֩ מֵרָעָ֨ה אֶל־רָעָ֧ה׀יָצָ֛אוּ וְאֹתִ֥י לֹא־יָדָ֖עוּ נְאֻם־יְהֹוָֽה׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
And they bend their tongues, their bow of falsehood: but they are not valiant for the truth upon the earth; for they proceed from evil to evil, and they know me not, says the Lord.


###### Jeremiah 9:3

אִ֤ישׁ מֵרֵעֵ֙הוּ֙ הִשָּׁמֵ֔רוּ וְעַל־כׇּל־אָ֖ח אַל־תִּבְטָ֑חוּ כִּ֤י כׇל־אָח֙ עָק֣וֹב יַעְקֹ֔ב וְכׇל־רֵ֖עַ רָכִ֥יל יַהֲלֹֽךְ׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Take heed everyone of his neighbour, and trust not in any brother: for every brother acts deceitfully, and every neighbour goes about with slanders.


###### Jeremiah 9:4

וְאִ֤ישׁ בְּרֵעֵ֙הוּ֙ יְהָתֵ֔לּוּ וֶאֱמֶ֖ת לֹ֣א יְדַבֵּ֑רוּ לִמְּד֧וּ לְשׁוֹנָ֛ם דַּבֶּר־שֶׁ֖קֶר הַעֲוֵ֥ה נִלְאֽוּ׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
And they deceive everyone his neighbour, and do not speak the truth: they have taught their tongue to speak lies, and weary themselves to commit iniquity.


###### Jeremiah 9:5

שִׁבְתְּךָ֖ בְּת֣וֹךְ מִרְמָ֑ה בְּמִרְמָ֛ה מֵאֲנ֥וּ דַעַת־אוֹתִ֖י נְאֻם־יְהֹוָֽה׃{ס}

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Thy habitation is in the midst of deceit; through deceit they refuse to know me, says the Lord.


###### Jeremiah 9:6

לָכֵ֗ן כֹּ֤ה אָמַר֙ יְהֹוָ֣ה צְבָא֔וֹת הִנְנִ֥י צוֹרְפָ֖ם וּבְחַנְתִּ֑ים כִּי־אֵ֣יךְ אֶֽעֱשֶׂ֔ה מִפְּנֵ֖י בַּת־עַמִּֽי׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Therefore thus says the Lord of hosts, Behold, I will smelt them, and try them; for how else shall I do for the daughter of my people?


###### Jeremiah 9:7

חֵ֥ץ (שוחט) [שָׁח֛וּט] לְשׁוֹנָ֖ם מִרְמָ֣ה דִבֵּ֑ר בְּפִ֗יו שָׁל֤וֹם אֶת־רֵעֵ֙הוּ֙ יְדַבֵּ֔ר וּבְקִרְבּ֖וֹ יָשִׂ֥ים אׇרְבּֽוֹ׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Their tongue is a sharpened arrow; it speaks deceit: one speaks peaceably to his neighbour with his mouth, but in heart he lies in wait for him.


###### Jeremiah 9:8

הַעַל־אֵ֥לֶּה לֹא־אֶפְקׇד־בָּ֖ם נְאֻם־יְהֹוָ֑ה אִ֚ם בְּג֣וֹי אֲשֶׁר־כָּזֶ֔ה לֹ֥א תִתְנַקֵּ֖ם נַפְשִֽׁי׃{ס}

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Shall I not punish them for these things? says the Lord: shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?


###### Jeremiah 9:9

עַל־הֶ֨הָרִ֜ים אֶשָּׂ֧א בְכִ֣י וָנֶ֗הִי וְעַל־נְא֤וֹת מִדְבָּר֙ קִינָ֔ה כִּ֤י נִצְּתוּ֙ מִבְּלִי־אִ֣ישׁ עֹבֵ֔ר וְלֹ֥א שָׁמְע֖וּ ק֣וֹל מִקְנֶ֑ה מֵע֤וֹף הַשָּׁמַ֙יִם֙ וְעַד־בְּהֵמָ֔ה נָדְד֖וּ הָלָֽכוּ׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
For the mountains will I take up a weeping and wailing, and for the pastures of the wilderness a lamentation, because they are burned up, so that none can pass through them; neither can men hear the sound of the cattle; both the birds of the heavens and the beasts are fled; they are gone.


###### Jeremiah 9:10

וְנָתַתִּ֧י אֶת־יְרוּשָׁלַ֛͏ִם לְגַלִּ֖ים מְע֣וֹן תַּנִּ֑ים וְאֶת־עָרֵ֧י יְהוּדָ֛ה אֶתֵּ֥ן שְׁמָמָ֖ה מִבְּלִ֥י יוֹשֵֽׁב׃{ס}

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
And I will make Yerushalayim heaps, a den of jackals; and I will make the cities of Yehuda desolate, without inhabitant.


###### Jeremiah 9:11

מִֽי־הָאִ֤ישׁ הֶחָכָם֙ וְיָבֵ֣ן אֶת־זֹ֔את וַאֲשֶׁ֨ר דִּבֶּ֧ר פִּֽי־יְהֹוָ֛ה אֵלָ֖יו וְיַגִּדָ֑הּ עַל־מָה֙ אָבְדָ֣ה הָאָ֔רֶץ נִצְּתָ֥ה כַמִּדְבָּ֖ר מִבְּלִ֥י עֹבֵֽר׃{ס}

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Who is the wise man, that may understand this? and who is he to whom the mouth of the Lord has spoken, that he may declare it? Why does the land perish, and is burned up like a wilderness, that none passes through?


###### Jeremiah 9:12

וַיֹּ֣אמֶר יְהֹוָ֔ה עַל־עׇזְבָם֙ אֶת־תּ֣וֹרָתִ֔י אֲשֶׁ֥ר נָתַ֖תִּי לִפְנֵיהֶ֑ם וְלֹא־שָׁמְע֥וּ בְקוֹלִ֖י וְלֹא־הָ֥לְכוּ בָֽהּ׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
And the Lord says, Because they have forsaken my Tora which I set before them, and have not obeyed my voice, nor walked therein;


###### Jeremiah 9:13

וַיֵּ֣לְכ֔וּ אַחֲרֵ֖י שְׁרִר֣וּת לִבָּ֑ם וְאַֽחֲרֵי֙ הַבְּעָלִ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֥ר לִמְּד֖וּם אֲבוֹתָֽם׃{פ}

but have walked after the stubbornness of their own heart, and after the Be῾alim, as their fathers taught them:


###### Jeremiah 9:14

לָכֵ֗ן כֹּה־אָמַ֞ר יְהֹוָ֤ה צְבָאוֹת֙ אֱלֹהֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל הִנְנִ֧י מַאֲכִילָ֛ם אֶת־הָעָ֥ם הַזֶּ֖ה לַעֲנָ֑ה וְהִשְׁקִיתִ֖ים מֵי־רֹֽאשׁ׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
therefore thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Yisra᾽el; Behold, I will feed them, this people, with wormwood, and give them water of gall to drink.


###### Jeremiah 9:15

וַהֲפִֽצוֹתִים֙ בַּגּוֹיִ֔ם אֲשֶׁר֙ לֹ֣א יָדְע֔וּ הֵ֖מָּה וַאֲבוֹתָ֑ם וְשִׁלַּחְתִּ֤י אַֽחֲרֵיהֶם֙ אֶת־הַחֶ֔רֶב עַ֥ד כַּלּוֹתִ֖י אוֹתָֽם׃{פ}

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
I will scatter them also among the nations, whom neither they nor their fathers have known: and I will send a sword after them, till I have consumed them.


###### Jeremiah 9:16

כֹּ֤ה אָמַר֙ יְהֹוָ֣ה צְבָא֔וֹת הִתְבּ֥וֹנְנ֛וּ וְקִרְא֥וּ לַמְקוֹנְנ֖וֹת וּתְבוֹאֶ֑ינָה וְאֶל־הַחֲכָמ֥וֹת שִׁלְח֖וּ וְתָבֽוֹאנָה׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Thus says the Lord of hosts, Consider, and call for the mourning women, that they may come; and send for the skilful women, that they may come:


###### Jeremiah 9:17

וּתְמַהֵ֕רְנָה וְתִשֶּׂ֥נָה עָלֵ֖ינוּ נֶ֑הִי וְתֵרַ֤דְנָה עֵינֵ֙ינוּ֙ דִּמְעָ֔ה וְעַפְעַפֵּ֖ינוּ יִזְּלוּ־מָֽיִם׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
and let them make haste, and take up a wailing for us, that our eyes may run down with tears, and our eyelids gush out with waters.


###### Jeremiah 9:18

כִּ֣י ק֥וֹל נְהִ֛י נִשְׁמַ֥ע מִצִּיּ֖וֹן אֵ֣יךְ שֻׁדָּ֑דְנוּ בֹּ֤שְׁנֽוּ מְאֹד֙ כִּֽי־עָזַ֣בְנוּ אָ֔רֶץ כִּ֥י הִשְׁלִ֖יכוּ מִשְׁכְּנוֹתֵֽינוּ׃{ס}

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
For a voice of wailing is heard out of Żiyyon, How are we ruined! we are greatly confounded, because we have forsaken the land, because our dwellings have cast us out.


###### Jeremiah 9:19

כִּֽי־שְׁמַ֤עְנָה נָשִׁים֙ דְּבַר־יְהֹוָ֔ה וְתִקַּ֥ח אׇזְנְכֶ֖ם דְּבַר־פִּ֑יו וְלַמֵּ֤דְנָה בְנֽוֹתֵיכֶם֙ נֶ֔הִי וְאִשָּׁ֥ה רְעוּתָ֖הּ קִינָֽה׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Yet hear the word of the Lord, O you women, and let your ear receive the word of his mouth, and teach your daughters wailing, and every one her neighbour lamentation.


###### Jeremiah 9:20

כִּי־עָ֤לָֽה מָ֙וֶת֙ בְּחַלּוֹנֵ֔ינוּ בָּ֖א בְּאַרְמְנוֹתֵ֑ינוּ לְהַכְרִ֤ית עוֹלָל֙ מִח֔וּץ בַּחוּרִ֖ים מֵרְחֹבֽוֹת׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
For death is come up into our windows, and is entered into our palaces, to cut off the children from the streets and the young men from the broad places.


###### Jeremiah 9:21

דַּבֵּ֗ר כֹּ֚ה נְאֻם־יְהֹוָ֔ה וְנָֽפְלָה֙ נִבְלַ֣ת הָאָדָ֔ם כְּדֹ֖מֶן עַל־פְּנֵ֣י הַשָּׂדֶ֑ה וּכְעָמִ֛יר מֵאַחֲרֵ֥י הַקֹּצֵ֖ר וְאֵ֥ין מְאַסֵּֽף׃{ס}

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Speak, Thus says the Lord, And the carcasses of men shall fall as dung upon the open field, and as the handful after the harvester, and none shall gather them.


###### Jeremiah 9:22

כֹּ֣ה**׀** אָמַ֣ר יְהֹוָ֗ה אַל־יִתְהַלֵּ֤ל חָכָם֙ בְּחׇכְמָת֔וֹ וְאַל־יִתְהַלֵּ֥ל הַגִּבּ֖וֹר בִּגְבוּרָת֑וֹ אַל־יִתְהַלֵּ֥ל עָשִׁ֖יר בְּעׇשְׁרֽוֹ׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Thus says the Lord, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches:


###### Jeremiah 9:23

כִּ֣י אִם־בְּזֹ֞את יִתְהַלֵּ֣ל הַמִּתְהַלֵּ֗ל הַשְׂכֵּל֮ וְיָדֹ֣עַ אוֹתִי֒ כִּ֚י אֲנִ֣י יְהֹוָ֔ה עֹ֥שֶׂה חֶ֛סֶד מִשְׁפָּ֥ט וּצְדָקָ֖ה בָּאָ֑רֶץ כִּֽי־בְאֵ֥לֶּה חָפַ֖צְתִּי נְאֻם־יְהֹוָֽה׃{ס}

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
but let him that glories glory in this, that he understands and knows me, that I am the Lord who exercise faithful love, justice, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, says the Lord.


###### Jeremiah 9:24

הִנֵּ֛ה יָמִ֥ים בָּאִ֖ים נְאֻם־יְהֹוָ֑ה וּפָ֣קַדְתִּ֔י עַל־כׇּל־מ֖וּל בְּעׇרְלָֽה׃

Behold, days are coming, says the Lord, when I will punish all the circumcised with the uncircumcised;


###### Jeremiah 9:25

עַל־מִצְרַ֣יִם וְעַל־יְהוּדָ֗ה וְעַל־אֱד֞וֹם וְעַל־בְּנֵ֤י עַמּוֹן֙ וְעַל־מוֹאָ֔ב וְעַל֙ כׇּל־קְצוּצֵ֣י פֵאָ֔ה הַיֹּשְׁבִ֖ים בַּמִּדְבָּ֑ר כִּ֤י כׇל־הַגּוֹיִם֙ עֲרֵלִ֔ים וְכׇל־בֵּ֥ית יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל עַרְלֵי־לֵֽב׃{פ}

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Miżrayim, and Yehuda, and Edom, and the children of ῾Ammon, and Mo᾽av, and all the desert dwellers that have the corners of their hair cut off; for all these nations are uncircumcised, and all the house of Yisra᾽el are uncircumcised in the heart.
