## Job Chapter 17

###### Job 17:1

רוּחִ֣י חֻ֭בָּלָה יָמַ֥י נִזְעָ֗כוּ קְבָרִ֥ים לִֽי׃

My spirit is broken, my days are extinct, the grave is ready for me.

My spirit has been destroyed. My days have leapt away. Graves await me


###### Job 17:2

אִם־לֹ֣א הֲ֭תֻלִים עִמָּדִ֑י וּ֝בְהַמְּרוֹתָ֗ם תָּלַ֥ן עֵינִֽי׃

Are there not mockers with me? and does not my eye dwell on their provocation?

even without mockers against me and my eyes constantly looking on at their taunting.


###### Job 17:3

שִֽׂימָה־נָּ֭א עׇרְבֵ֣נִי עִמָּ֑ךְ מִ֥י ה֝֗וּא לְיָדִ֥י יִתָּקֵֽעַ׃

Give now a pledge, be surety for me with thyself: who else is there that will strike hands with me?

Give [heart] to me, I pray You. Give me surety [(by "handshake") to dispute] with You. [For] who is there [among them] to shake my hand [(in friendship)]?

כִּֽי־לִ֭בָּם צָפַ֣נְתָּ מִשָּׂ֑כֶל עַל־כֵּ֝֗ן לֹ֣א תְרֹמֵֽם׃

For thou hast hid their heart from understanding: therefore shalt thou not exalt them.

For You have hid their hearts from wisdom, wherefore You will not be exalted [through them].


###### Job 17:5

לְ֭חֵלֶק יַגִּ֣יד רֵעִ֑ים וְעֵינֵ֖י בָנָ֣יו תִּכְלֶֽנָה׃

They are as one who invites friends to have a share, whilst the eyes of his children fail.

Friends will flatter each other and [(as a result)] the eyes of their sons will fail.


###### Job 17:6

וְֽ֭הִצִּיגַנִי לִמְשֹׁ֣ל עַמִּ֑ים וְתֹ֖פֶת לְפָנִ֣ים אֶהְיֶֽה׃

He has made me also a byword of the peoples; and I shall be a horror to every face.

[(This would be my dispute with the L rd:)] He has set me up as a parable for the peoples. I am become a mockery to [their] faces.


###### Job 17:7

וַתֵּ֣כַהּ מִכַּ֣עַשׂ עֵינִ֑י וִיצֻרַ֖י כַּצֵּ֣ל כֻּלָּֽם׃

My eye also is dim by reason of vexation, and all my members are as a shadow.

My eye is dimmed with anger and all of my limbs are like shadows.


###### Job 17:8

יָשֹׁ֣מּוּ יְשָׁרִ֣ים עַל־זֹ֑את וְ֝נָקִ֗י עַל־חָנֵ֥ף יִתְעֹרָֽר׃

Upright men are astonished at this, and the innocent stirs up himself against the godless.

Let the upright be astounded over this, and let the clean one [(hearing of these mockeries)] be aroused against the flatterer.


###### Job 17:9

וְיֹאחֵ֣ז צַדִּ֣יק דַּרְכּ֑וֹ וּֽטְהׇר־יָ֝דַ֗יִם יֹסִ֥יף אֹֽמֶץ׃

Yet the righteous holds on his way, and he that has clean hands grows stronger and stronger.

And let the righteous one hold fast to his way [(to oppose the flatterers)] and [let] the pure of hand add courage.


###### Job 17:10

וְֽאוּלָ֗ם כֻּלָּ֣ם תָּ֭שֻׁבוּ וּבֹ֣אוּ נָ֑א וְלֹֽא־אֶמְצָ֖א בָכֶ֣ם חָכָֽם׃

But as for you all, return, and come now: for I cannot find one wise man among you.

But all of you [(my friends)] turn about and come now [(to learn the truth)]; but I find no wise one among you [(in your mocking of my plaint)].


###### Job 17:11

יָמַ֣י עָ֭בְרוּ זִמֹּתַ֣י נִתְּק֑וּ מ֖וֹרָשֵׁ֣י לְבָבִֽי׃

My days are past, my purposes are broken off, even the thoughts of my heart.

My days [(of good)] have passed; my thoughts [(my expectations of continued good)] have been cut off, the bequests of my heart.


###### Job 17:12

לַ֭יְלָה לְי֣וֹם יָשִׂ֑ימוּ א֝֗וֹר קָר֥וֹב מִפְּנֵי־חֹֽשֶׁךְ׃

They change the night into day, saying, The light is near when the darkness is at hand.

They [(their mockeries)] change day to night. The light [of the day seems] short [to me] because of the darkness [(of my afflictions)].


###### Job 17:13

אִם־אֲ֭קַוֶּה שְׁא֣וֹל בֵּיתִ֑י בַּ֝חֹ֗שֶׁךְ רִפַּ֥דְתִּי יְצוּעָֽי׃

If I look to She᾽ol as my home: if I spread my couch in the darkness:

Since I hope for the pit as my home, I have spread my bed in darkness [i.e., the grave].


###### Job 17:14

לַשַּׁ֣חַת קָ֭רָאתִי אָ֣בִי אָ֑תָּה אִמִּ֥י וַ֝אֲחֹתִ֗י לָרִמָּֽה׃

if I say to the pit, Thou art my father; to the worm. Thou art my mother and my sister;

To the pit I have called: "You are my father"; "my mother" and "my sister" to the worms.


###### Job 17:15

וְ֭אַיֵּה אֵפ֣וֹ תִקְוָתִ֑י וְ֝תִקְוָתִ֗י מִ֣י יְשׁוּרֶֽנָּה׃

where then is my hope? as for my hope, who shall see it?

Where is [(the realization of)] my hope, and who will see my hope [(to hurry it to me)]?


###### Job 17:16

בַּדֵּ֣י שְׁאֹ֣ל תֵּרַ֑דְנָה אִם־יַ֖חַד עַל־עָפָ֣ר נָֽחַת׃{פ}

Will they go down with me to the bars of She᾽ol? shall we descend together to the dust?

Would that they [(my limbs)] which [are destined to] descend to the pit would [(soon)] lie on the dust [in death]!
