## Job Chapter 27

###### Job 27:1

וַיֹּ֣סֶף אִ֭יּוֹב שְׂאֵ֥ת מְשָׁל֗וֹ וַיֹּאמַֽר׃

###### Job 27:2

חַי־אֵ֭ל הֵסִ֣יר מִשְׁפָּטִ֑י וְ֝שַׁדַּ֗י הֵמַ֥ר נַפְשִֽׁי׃

As God lives, who has taken away my right; and the Almighty, who has embittered my soul;

[I swear] As G d lives, He has cast aside my judgment, and, [as] the Almighty [lives], He has embittered my spirit.


###### Job 27:3

כִּי־כׇל־ע֣וֹד נִשְׁמָתִ֣י בִ֑י וְר֖וּחַ אֱל֣וֹהַּ בְּאַפִּֽי׃

all the while my breath is in me, and the spirit of God is in my nostrils;

For as long as my spirit is in me and the breath of G d is in my nostrils,


###### Job 27:4

אִם־תְּדַבֵּ֣רְנָה שְׂפָתַ֣י עַוְלָ֑ה וּ֝לְשׁוֹנִ֗י אִם־יֶהְגֶּ֥ה רְמִיָּֽה׃

my lips shall not speak wickedness, nor my tongue utter deceit.

[may this oath be upon me] if my lips speak wrongly or my tongue utters deceit.


###### Job 27:5

חָלִ֣ילָה לִּי֮ אִם־אַצְדִּ֢יק אֶ֫תְכֶ֥ם עַד־אֶגְוָ֑ע לֹֽא־אָסִ֖יר תֻּמָּתִ֣י מִמֶּֽנִּי׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Far be it from me that I should justify you: till I die I will not put away my integrity from me.

[G d] forbid that I should justify you [(in your incrimination of me)]. Until I die, I shall not disavow my innocence.


###### Job 27:6

בְּצִדְקָתִ֣י הֶ֭חֱזַקְתִּי וְלֹ֣א אַרְפֶּ֑הָ לֹא־יֶחֱרַ֥ף לְ֝בָבִ֗י מִיָּמָֽי׃

My righteousness I hold fast, and I will not let it go: my heart shall not reproach me as long as I live.

I have persisted in my righteousness and not grown slack. My heart never reproached [me for my conduct] all of my days.


###### Job 27:7

יְהִ֣י כְ֭רָשָׁע אֹ֣יְבִ֑י וּמִתְקוֹמְמִ֥י כְעַוָּֽל׃

Let my enemy be as the wicked, and he who rises up against me as the unrighteous.

[Perforce,] it is my foe who is the evildoer, and he who rises against me, the wrongdoer.


###### Job 27:8

כִּ֤י מַה־תִּקְוַ֣ת חָ֭נֵף כִּ֣י יִבְצָ֑ע כִּ֤י יֵ֖שֶׁל אֱל֣וֹהַּ נַפְשֽׁוֹ׃

For what is the hope of the hypocrite, though he has gained, when God takes away his soul?

For what is the hope of the flatterer who robs, when G d casts away his soul?

הֲֽ֭צַעֲקָתוֹ יִשְׁמַ֥ע׀אֵ֑ל כִּֽי־תָב֖וֹא עָלָ֣יו צָרָֽה׃

Will God hear his cry when trouble comes upon him?

###### Job 27:10

אִם־עַל־שַׁדַּ֥י יִתְעַנָּ֑ג יִקְרָ֖א אֱל֣וֹהַּ בְּכׇל־עֵֽת׃

Will he delight himself in the Almighty? will he always call upon God?

Will he delight in the Almighty? Will he call upon G d at all times?


###### Job 27:11

אוֹרֶ֣ה אֶתְכֶ֣ם בְּיַד־אֵ֑ל אֲשֶׁ֥ר עִם־שַׁ֝דַּ֗י לֹ֣א אֲכַחֵֽד׃

I will teach you concerning the hand of God: that which is with the Almighty will I not conceal.

I will teach you what [(mode of conduct)] is in the hand of G d. I will not conceal what resides with the Almighty.


###### Job 27:12

הֵן־אַתֶּ֣ם כֻּלְּכֶ֣ם חֲזִיתֶ֑ם וְלָמָּה־זֶּ֝֗ה הֶ֣בֶל תֶּהְבָּֽלוּ׃

Behold, all you yourselves have seen it; why then do you thus altogether breathe emptiness?

In truth, all of you have seen [viz. verse 13, etc.]. Why, then, do you pursue vanity [(being evildoers and flatterers)]?

זֶ֤ה**׀** חֵלֶק־אָדָ֖ם רָשָׁ֥ע׀עִם־אֵ֑ל וְֽנַחֲלַ֥ת עָ֝רִיצִ֗ים מִשַּׁדַּ֥י יִקָּֽחוּ׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
This is the portion of a wicked man with God, and the heritage of oppressors, which they shall receive of the Almighty.

This [(as you have seen)] is the portion of the wicked man, which is reposited with G d, and the inheritance that the tyrants will take from the Almighty.


###### Job 27:14

אִם־יִרְבּ֣וּ בָנָ֣יו לְמוֹ־חָ֑רֶב וְ֝צֶאֱצָאָ֗יו לֹ֣א יִשְׂבְּעוּ־לָֽחֶם׃

If his children be multiplied, it is for the sword: and his offspring shall not be satisfied with bread.

Though his sons increase, they are for the sword, and his descendants will not be sated with bread.


###### Job 27:15

שְׂ֭רִידָו בַּמָּ֣וֶת יִקָּבֵ֑רוּ וְ֝אַלְמְנֹתָ֗יו לֹ֣א תִבְכֶּֽינָה׃

Those that remain of him shall be buried by some other death: and his widows shall not weep.

Those that are left to him, in death [(after terrible afflictions)] will be buried, and his widows will not mourn them, [(seeing their death as a "reprieve")].


###### Job 27:16

אִם־יִצְבֹּ֣ר כֶּעָפָ֣ר כָּ֑סֶף וְ֝כַחֹ֗מֶר יָכִ֥ין מַלְבּֽוּשׁ׃

Though he heap up silver as the dust, and prepare raiment as the clay;

He may amass silver as dust and store up raiment as clay.


###### Job 27:17

יָ֭כִין וְצַדִּ֣יק יִלְבָּ֑שׁ וְ֝כֶ֗סֶף נָקִ֥י יַחֲלֹֽק׃

he may prepare it, but the just shall put it on, and the innocent shall divide the silver.

He may store it up, but the righteous one will wear it, and He will apportion the silver [to] the innocent one.


###### Job 27:18

בָּנָ֣ה כָעָ֣שׁ בֵּית֑וֹ וּ֝כְסֻכָּ֗ה עָשָׂ֥ה נֹצֵֽר׃

He builds his house like the moth, and as a booth which the watchman makes.

He has built his house [(to come down)] as that of a moth and as a booth made by a watcher.


###### Job 27:19

עָשִׁ֣יר יִ֭שְׁכַּב וְלֹ֣א יֵאָסֵ֑ף עֵינָ֖יו פָּקַ֣ח וְאֵינֶֽנּוּ׃

A rich man shall he lie down, as though his wealth could not be summed up: he opens his eyes, and it is gone.

He dies rich and [sometimes] he is not [even] gathered up [for burial]. He opens his eyes and he is gone.


###### Job 27:20

תַּשִּׂיגֵ֣הוּ כַ֭מַּיִם בַּלָּה֑וֹת לַ֝֗יְלָה גְּנָבַ֥תּוּ סוּפָֽה׃

Terrors overtake him like waters; a tempest steals him away in the night.

Terrors seize him as a torrent. At night he is spirited away by a whirlwind.


###### Job 27:21

יִשָּׂאֵ֣הוּ קָדִ֣ים וְיֵלַ֑ךְ וִ֝ישָׂעֲרֵ֗הוּ מִמְּקֹמֽוֹ׃

The east wind carries him away, and he departs: and it hurts him out of his place.

The east wind lifts him up and he goes, and it sweeps him from his place.


###### Job 27:22

וְיַשְׁלֵ֣ךְ עָ֭לָיו וְלֹ֣א יַחְמֹ֑ל מִ֝יָּד֗וֹ בָּר֥וֹחַ יִבְרָֽח׃

It hurls itself at him, and does not spare: he would fain flee out of its hand.

[Men] heap [evil] upon him and have no mercy. [His former friends] flee from him.


###### Job 27:23

יִשְׂפֹּ֣ק עָלֵ֣ימוֹ כַפֵּ֑ימוֹ וְיִשְׁרֹ֥ק עָ֝לָ֗יו מִמְּקֹמֽוֹ׃

Men shall clap their hands at him, and shall hiss him out of his place.

Men smite their palms over him [(in dismay at his downfall)], and they whistle over him in his place.
