## Joshua Chapter 14

###### Joshua 14:1

וְאֵ֛לֶּה אֲשֶׁר־נָחֲל֥וּ בְנֵֽי־יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל בְּאֶ֣רֶץ כְּנָ֑עַן אֲשֶׁ֨ר נִחֲל֜וּ אוֹתָ֗ם אֶלְעָזָ֤ר הַכֹּהֵן֙ וִיהוֹשֻׁ֣עַ בִּן־נ֔וּן וְרָאשֵׁ֛י אֲב֥וֹת הַמַּטּ֖וֹת לִבְנֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
And these are the places which the children of Yisra᾽el inherited in the land of Kena῾an, which El῾azar the priest, and Yehoshua the son of Nun, and the heads of the fathers of the tribes of the children of Yisra᾽el, assigned for their inheritance.


###### Joshua 14:2

בְּגוֹרַ֖ל נַחֲלָתָ֑ם כַּאֲשֶׁ֨ר צִוָּ֤ה יְהֹוָה֙ בְּיַד־מֹשֶׁ֔ה לְתִשְׁעַ֥ת הַמַּטּ֖וֹת וַחֲצִ֥י הַמַּטֶּֽה׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
By lot was their inheritance, as the Lord commanded by the hand of Moshe, for the nine tribes, and for the half tribe.


###### Joshua 14:3

כִּֽי־נָתַ֨ן מֹשֶׁ֜ה נַחֲלַ֨ת שְׁנֵ֤י הַמַּטּוֹת֙ וַחֲצִ֣י הַמַּטֶּ֔ה מֵעֵ֖בֶר לַיַּרְדֵּ֑ן וְלַ֨לְוִיִּ֔ם לֹא־נָתַ֥ן נַחֲלָ֖ה בְּתוֹכָֽם׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
For Moshe had given the inheritance of two and a half tribes on the other side of the Yarden: but to the Levites he gave no inheritance among them.


###### Joshua 14:4

כִּֽי־הָי֧וּ בְנֵֽי־יוֹסֵ֛ף שְׁנֵ֥י מַטּ֖וֹת מְנַשֶּׁ֣ה וְאֶפְרָ֑יִם וְלֹֽא־נָתְנוּ֩ חֵ֨לֶק לַלְוִיִּ֜ם בָּאָ֗רֶץ כִּ֤י אִם־עָרִים֙ לָשֶׁ֔בֶת וּמִ֨גְרְשֵׁיהֶ֔ם לְמִקְנֵיהֶ֖ם וּלְקִנְיָנָֽם׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
For the children of Yosef were two tribes, Menashshe and Efrayim: and they gave no part to the Levites in the land, except cities to dwell in, with their pasture grounds for their cattle and their substance.


###### Joshua 14:5

כַּאֲשֶׁ֨ר צִוָּ֤ה יְהֹוָה֙ אֶת־מֹשֶׁ֔ה כֵּ֥ן עָשׂ֖וּ בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וַֽיַּחְלְק֖וּ אֶת־הָאָֽרֶץ׃{פ}

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
As the Lord commanded Moshe, so the children of Yisra᾽el did, and they divided the land.


###### Joshua 14:6

וַיִּגְּשׁ֨וּ בְנֵי־יְהוּדָ֤ה אֶל־יְהוֹשֻׁ֙עַ֙ בַּגִּלְגָּ֔ל וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֵלָ֔יו כָּלֵ֥ב בֶּן־יְפֻנֶּ֖ה הַקְּנִזִּ֑י אַתָּ֣ה יָדַ֡עְתָּ אֶֽת־הַדָּבָר֩ אֲשֶׁר־דִּבֶּ֨ר יְהֹוָ֜ה אֶל־מֹשֶׁ֣ה אִישׁ־הָאֱלֹהִ֗ים עַ֧ל אֹדוֹתַ֛י וְעַ֥ל אֹדוֹתֶ֖יךָ בְּקָדֵ֥שׁ בַּרְנֵֽעַ׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Then the children of Yehuda came to Yehoshua in Gilgal: and Kalev the son of Yefunne the Qenizzi said to him, Thou knowst the thing that the Lord said to Moshe the man of God concerning me and thee in Qadesh-barnea.

בֶּן־אַרְבָּעִ֨ים שָׁנָ֜ה אָנֹכִ֗י בִּ֠שְׁלֹ֠חַ מֹשֶׁ֨ה עֶבֶד־יְהֹוָ֥ה אֹתִ֛י מִקָּדֵ֥שׁ בַּרְנֵ֖עַ לְרַגֵּ֣ל אֶת־הָאָ֑רֶץ וָאָשֵׁ֤ב אֹתוֹ֙ דָּבָ֔ר כַּאֲשֶׁ֖ר עִם־לְֽבָבִֽי׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Forty years old was I when Moshe the servant of the Lord sent me from Qadesh-barnea to spy out the land; and I brought him back word as it was in my heart.


###### Joshua 14:8

וְאַחַי֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר עָל֣וּ עִמִּ֔י הִמְסִ֖יו אֶת־לֵ֣ב הָעָ֑ם וְאָנֹכִ֣י מִלֵּ֔אתִי אַחֲרֵ֖י יְהֹוָ֥ה אֱלֹהָֽי׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
But my brethren who went up with me made the heart of the people melt: but I wholly followed the Lord my God.

וַיִּשָּׁבַ֣ע מֹשֶׁ֗ה בַּיּ֣וֹם הַהוּא֮ לֵאמֹר֒ אִם־לֹ֗א הָאָ֙רֶץ֙ אֲשֶׁ֨ר דָּרְכָ֤ה רַגְלְךָ֙ בָּ֔הּ לְךָ֨ תִהְיֶ֧ה לְנַחֲלָ֛ה וּלְבָנֶ֖יךָ עַד־עוֹלָ֑ם כִּ֣י מִלֵּ֔אתָ אַחֲרֵ֖י יְהֹוָ֥ה אֱלֹהָֽי׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
And Moshe swore on that day, saying, Surely the land on which thy feet have trodden shall be thy inheritance, and thy children’s forever, because thou hast wholly followed the Lord my God.

וְעַתָּ֗ה הִנֵּה֩ הֶחֱיָ֨ה יְהֹוָ֥ה׀אוֹתִי֮ כַּאֲשֶׁ֣ר דִּבֵּר֒ זֶה֩ אַרְבָּעִ֨ים וְחָמֵ֜שׁ שָׁנָ֗ה מֵ֠אָ֠ז דִּבֶּ֨ר יְהֹוָ֜ה אֶת־הַדָּבָ֤ר הַזֶּה֙ אֶל־מֹשֶׁ֔ה אֲשֶׁר־הָלַ֥ךְ יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל בַּמִּדְבָּ֑ר וְעַתָּה֙ הִנֵּ֣ה אָנֹכִ֣י הַיּ֔וֹם בֶּן־חָמֵ֥שׁ וּשְׁמֹנִ֖ים שָׁנָֽה׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
And now, behold, the Lord has kept me alive, as he said, these forty five years, even since the Lord spoke this word to Moshe, while the children of Yisra᾽el wandered in the wilderness: and now, lo, I am this day eighty five years old.


###### Joshua 14:11

עוֹדֶ֨נִּי הַיּ֜וֹם חָזָ֗ק כַּֽאֲשֶׁר֙ בְּי֨וֹם שְׁלֹ֤חַ אוֹתִי֙ מֹשֶׁ֔ה כְּכֹ֥חִי אָ֖ז וּכְכֹ֣חִי עָ֑תָּה לַמִּלְחָמָ֖ה וְלָצֵ֥את וְלָבֽוֹא׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
As yet I am as strong this day as I was in the day that Moshe sent me: as my strength was then, so is my strength now, for war, both to go out, and to come in.


###### Joshua 14:12

וְעַתָּ֗ה תְּנָה־לִּי֙ אֶת־הָהָ֣ר הַזֶּ֔ה אֲשֶׁר־דִּבֶּ֥ר יְהֹוָ֖ה בַּיּ֣וֹם הַה֑וּא כִּ֣י אַתָּֽה־שָׁמַ֩עְתָּ֩ בַיּ֨וֹם הַה֜וּא כִּֽי־עֲנָקִ֣ים שָׁ֗ם וְעָרִים֙ גְּדֹל֣וֹת בְּצֻר֔וֹת אוּלַ֨י יְהֹוָ֤ה אוֹתִי֙ וְה֣וֹרַשְׁתִּ֔ים כַּאֲשֶׁ֖ר דִּבֶּ֥ר יְהֹוָֽה׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Now therefore give me this mountain, of which the Lord spoke on that day; for thou didst hear on that day how the ῾Anaqim were there, and that the cities were great and fortified: if so be the Lord will be with me, then I shall be able to drive them out, as the Lord said.


###### Joshua 14:13

וַֽיְבָרְכֵ֖הוּ יְהוֹשֻׁ֑עַ וַיִּתֵּ֧ן אֶת־חֶבְר֛וֹן לְכָלֵ֥ב בֶּן־יְפֻנֶּ֖ה לְנַחֲלָֽה׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
And Yehoshua blessed him, and gave Ḥevron to Kalev the son of Yefunne for an inheritance.


###### Joshua 14:14

עַל־כֵּ֣ן הָיְתָֽה־חֶ֠בְר֠וֹן לְכָלֵ֨ב בֶּן־יְפֻנֶּ֤ה הַקְּנִזִּי֙ לְֽנַחֲלָ֔ה עַ֖ד הַיּ֣וֹם הַזֶּ֑ה יַ֚עַן אֲשֶׁ֣ר מִלֵּ֔א אַחֲרֵ֕י יְהֹוָ֖ה אֱלֹהֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Ḥevron therefore became the inheritance of Kalev son of Yefunne the Qenizzi to this day, because he wholly followed the Lord God 
				of Yisra᾽el.


###### Joshua 14:15

וְשֵׁ֨ם חֶבְר֤וֹן לְפָנִים֙ קִרְיַ֣ת אַרְבַּ֔ע הָאָדָ֧ם הַגָּד֛וֹל בָּעֲנָקִ֖ים ה֑וּא וְהָאָ֥רֶץ שָֽׁקְטָ֖ה מִמִּלְחָמָֽה׃{פ}

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
And the name of Ḥevron before was Qiryat-arba; this Arba was the biggest man among the ῾Anaqim. And the land had rest from war.
