**ורב כצמח השדה.** מה צמח השדה כל מה שגוזזים אותו יותר צומח. אף ישראל כל מה שמענים אותה יותר פרים ורבים. וכן הוא אומר וכאשר יענו אותו כן ירבה וכן יפרוץ.

**Rabbi Mark Greenspan:**
**And numerous, as thus growth of the field:** Just as the growth of the field, when they are cut down grow back even more numerous, so too, Israel the more they were oppressed the more they increased ant became fertile. Thus it is states, "The more they were oppressed, the more they increased and spread out." (Exodus 1:12)

**ואת ערום ועריה.** ערומים ומשוללים מן המצות שהגיע זמן הקץ ולא היה בידם מצות ונתן להם פסח ומילה שנמולו ביום ארבעה עשר בניסן וזהו שכתוב מתבוססת בדמיך. שני דמים דם מילה ודם פסח.

**Rabbi Mark Greenspan:**
**But you were naked and bare:** Naked and lacking in commandments so that when the end of the subjugation came, they did not have any commandments to their credit. Therefore God gave them the Passover offering and the commandment to circumcise all the males on the fourteenth day of Nisan. This is hinted at in the verse: "When I passed by you and saw you wallowing in blood, I said to you: "live in spite of your blood; yea, live in spite of your blood" (Ezekiel 16:7). The verse refers to the blood of circumcision and the blood of the offering.
