**בפרך.** בתחלה בפה רך כמו שדרשו שתלה פרעה לבנה בצוארו ונתחזקו והוסיפו אומץ לכבוד המלך. ואחרי כן שעבדו בהם בפרך. וירא את עניינו. זו פרישות דרך ארץ. פירוש עניינו כמו אם תענה את בנותי שהיו מבטלים מהם עונת נשותיהם.

**With rigor (*farekh*):** At first Pharaoh spoke to them softly (*bifeh rakh*), carrying bricks on his shoulders to encourage the Israelites to participate in the building of the cities so they could honor the king, but afterwards he subjugated them with rigor (*farekh*).
