**תם מה הוא אומר.**בהקדים שטעם המצה שאנו אוכלים בפסח הוא משתי סיבות חדא לפי שהוא מאכל עבדים ופועלים שאינו מתעכל מהר וזהו הלחם שהיו מאכילים אותם במצרים כשהיו משעבדים אותם וכמאמר המגיד הא לחמה עניא דאכלו אבהתנא בארעא דמצרים. ועוד לפי שהוא זכר למהירות הגאולה וכמאמר המגיד מצה זו שאנו אוכלים על שום שלא הספיק בצקם של אבותינו להחמיץ כי גורשו וגו'. וזוהי כוונת התם כשרואה המצה שהיא משונה מלחם חמץ קטנת הכמות ושפלה נפשו לשאול הגיעה מה זאת ומלת מה נאמרת על ההקטנה כמו מה אנוש כי תזכרנו ור"ל מה היא חשובה זאת המצה שאתם עושים הלא לחם חמץ טוב ממנה. ולזה השיב שאין הטעם מצד חשיבותה רק הטעם מצד שהיא זכר למהירות הגאולה וזהו בחוזק יד הוציאנו ה' ר"ל בחוזק יד של מצרים הוציא ה' דכתיב ותחזק מצרים על העם וגו' כי גורשו ממצרים ולא הספיק בצקם להחמיץ. ועוד טעם שני שהיציאה היתה מבית עבדים והיא זכר למאכל פועלים ועבדים:

Tam mah hu omer? What does the simple child ask? We began by saying there are two reasons we eat matzah on Passover: first because it was the food of slaves since it takes a while to digest; and second, because our ancestors did not have time to allow the dough to rise when they left Egypt in great haste. When the simple child sees the matzah, he is immediately impressed with the fact that it is different than leavened bread. The word mah, what, has another meaning: it can imply “small”, or “lowly.” When the simple child, then, says: “look how small and insignificant this is!” He is asking: “Why is this matzah so important when you could make leavened bread that is so much better than it?” To this, one answers that the reason for the matzah is not because of its importance but because God took us out of Egypt with a mighty hand; that is, God forced their hand and they made us leave Egypt very quickly so that even our bread didn’t have time to be baked! Therefore the matzah is a reminder of both our time as slaves and the pressure of the Egyptians to get us to leave Egypt quickly, and therefore it is a symbol that should humble us.
