בתור "בעל־בית" צעיר עלי לערוך בחג הפסח הבעל"ט בפעם הראשונה את הסדר ויהיה לי אז קשה לומר בתחילתו את המלים "השתא הכא – לשנה הבאה בארעא בישראל". באמירה זו כאילו אנו כפויי טובה ח"ו וכאילו אין אנו מכירים בחסד הגדול שהשם עשה עמנו שזיכנו לצאת מהגלות ולשבת בארץ הזאת ולקיים מצוותו.

שאלתי כמה אנשים נבונים על דעתם בענין זה וכולם אמרו שיש להשאיר את הנוסחה כמו שהיא, אלא שהוציאו את המלים הנ"ל מפשוטן וניסו לתרצן בתירוצים דחוקים שונים.

לפי השכל הפשוט נראה לי כי הטוב ביותר להשמיט מלים אלה, אך חושבני שהיו בוודאי עוד יהודים שנתקלו בבעיה זו, ואולי הרבנות כבר פסקה בענין זה או קבעה נוסחה אחרת המתאימה למציאות שלנו.

בל נא תראה בהשארתו של ביטוי זה בהגדה ככפיות טובה, חלילה, כפי שהנך מתבטא. הן בוודאי לא נעלם ממך שהמדובר הוא בכלל ישראל. גם תפילותינו של כל ימות השנה, שבתות וימים טובים – אינן חסרות ביטויים וקטעים מסוג זה, כגון: "ושבור עול הגויים מהרה מעל צוארנו והוליכנו מהרה קוממיות לארצנו" שאנו אומרים יום יום בתפילת שחרית, והלא אנו מצויים על אדמתנו.

הסיבה לכך היא שנוסח התפילה הוא בעד כלל ישראל, כי ביסודה מבטאת התפילה את אחדות העם ואנו מביעים בפני שוכן מרומים משאלות המשותפות לעם ישראל בכל מקום שהוא מפוזר, כפי שכתבו הפוסקים על־כך⁹⁹.
