הננו עומדים, אני וביתי, לערוך את חגיגת ה"בר־מצוה" של בננו היחיד, אברהם־יצחק נ"י, שזכינו לו אחרי 11 "שנות ראינו רעה" במחנות ההסגר שבערבות סיביר כאסיר ציון. כן זכינו לראות בו, בזכות אבותינו הקדושים, תלמיד־חכם, בן מסור לתורה הקדושה וכל הכרוך בזה, כנאה וכיאה לנכד הבעש"ט – מצד אבי זצ"ל ולנכד "בעל התניא" מצד אמי ע"ה.

ידוע לנו רחמי האב לבן, כדכתיב: "כרחם אב על בנים". כיצד להבין, שהאב מצווה לברך את ברכת "שפטרני", שיש בה משום היגואיזם לא חנוכי, האם לא היה יותר מתאים, שהאב, שזכה לשעה נכספת זו, יברך ברכת "שהחיינו"?

זאת ועוד: מדוע לא חייב האב לברך ברכת הודייה להשי"ת על שזכה לכך שבנו הגיע לכך ונעשה בר מצוות ולא לברך על כך שהוא כבר "בר עונשין" למה לפתח פה לשטן? הרי העיקר זה קיום המצוות ולא ח"ו לעבור עליהן!?

עם אור היום ביום הראשון של שנת הארבע עשרה של הילד שבו נכנס בחיוב המצוות, מזדמנת לפניו מצוה זו של הנחת תפילין שחיוב הנחתן חל באותה שעה, ובה הוא מתחיל, לפיכך מדגישים אותה. וראויה מצוה זו של הנחת תפילין להמנות ראשונה להנכנס לעול המצוות, שבקיומה צריך לכוין ולזכור יחוד הבורא, ולשעבד אליו לבו ומוחו שהם כלי שכלו, ומשום כך נצטוינו להניחן על הזרוע כנגד הלב ועל הראש כנגד המוח, ועל ידי כן יבוא לידי קבלת עול מלכות שמים שלמה¹²¹.

ב. האב חייב לטפל בבנו עד הגיעו לגיל המצוות, לחנכו ולהדריכו בדרך הישרה דרך התורה והמצוה, ואם יתרשל במילוי חובתו זאת לבנו, הוא נענש. ועתה שנפטר מחשש עונש זה מברך ברוך שפטרני. ויש מן הפוסקים שכתבו: שעד גיל זה הבן נענש בעון האב, והאב היה נענש על ענישת בנו על ידו. ועתה נפטר מהעונש ולכן מברך ברכה זו, בין כך ובין כך אין בזה משום פתחון פה לשטן ח"ו¹²².

ברכת שהחיינו: אין מברכים אלא על מצוה שבאה מזמן לזמן. וגם כשמתקיימת המצוה בכל יום על ידי כל אדם אף אם אצלו זו הפעם הראשונה שמקימה, אינו מברך שהחיינו¹²³. וההורים יכולים להודות לשם על שזכו ליום זה שבו נכנס בנם לעול המצוות, בכל לשון של הודייה, אולם לא בנוסח של ברכה. ואם יש את נפשם לברך שהחיינו, יברכו ברכה זו על לבוש חדש או פרי חדש ויכוונו גם על שמחת היום. וראוי שיעשה כן גם הבר מצוה עצמו¹²⁴.
