ב־15 השנים האחרונות – קהילות הקונסרבטיבים והאורתודוכסים־מודרנים חנכו בנות־מצוה. כאשר בת מגיעה ל־13 הנה בת־מצוה ושומרת אותן המצוות שהבר־מצוה חייב בהן. בקהלתי היא מסדרת את התפלה, קוראת מפטיר, ההפטרה, וגם עושה דרשה. האמא גם יושבת בתיבה, וזה באמת מעורר בהנשים היהודיות, את הרגש לעובדה שהן צריכות להתקרב לבית־הכנסת יחד עם בנותיהן, ובאמת עושים זאת בהשתתפותן בתפלה הנ"ל.

כידוע לי, ובטוחני שגם ידוע לכב', אנו מוצאים בתלמוד, במסכת מגילה (כג, א) איפה שאשה נקראה לתורה לברך הברכות "אבל לא תקרא בתורה".

אני רוצה חוות דעת כב' אם נעשה זאת כנוהג אחיד להתיר לבנות ולאמותיהן להיקרא לתורה, לברך, ולהשתתף בתפילה, וכמו־כן להביאם לתוך בית־הכנסת במקום לצאת בשבתות למסעדות, לערוך קניות, לשחק קלפים, לעשן, ולאכול טריפה.

שאלתני אודות האפשרות לערוך בבית־הכנסת שבקהילתך טכסי בת־מצוה לבנות שהגיעו לגיל זה, תוך קיום כל הכללים הנהוגים לגבי בר־המצוה, וציינת שדבר זה מקרב את הבנות ואמותיהם לבית־הכנסת במקום שתצאנה בשבתות "למסעדות, לערוך קניות בחנויות, לשחק קלפים, לעשן ולאכול טריפה".

הנה, אם הפעולות השליליות הנ"ל הן תוצאה ישירה של חוסר התקרבות לבית־הכנסת יש לנקוט בצעדים הדרושים במסגרת ההלכה על מנת להביאן אל הדרך הישרה.

אני מתיר לך לערוך בבית־הכנסת טכס בת־מצוה, שבו יברכו בשעת הקריאה בתורה את בת־המצוה ויציינו את המאורע הזה, ולאחר קריאת התורה לאפשר לה לשאת דרשה מסורתית.

נראה לי שזה מספיק בהחלט כדי שמאורע זה יטביע את חותמו בקרב המתפללים ובייחוד בקרב המשפחה, ויש להמנע מלהעלותה לקרוא בתורה ולהפטיר¹²⁷.
