אני שולח לכב' רשימה שפרסמתי בעתון בלדינו "לה־בירדד" המופיע בתל־אביב בקשר עם אסור שהוכרז ברדיו ע"י הרב הראשי בעירנו, רבי עובדיה יוסף, על המנהג הנהוג מזה מאות בשנים בקהילות הספרדיות בבלקן, וביחוד בשלוניקי, שהנשים מחויבות לברך על הלולב בסוכות, מנהג שמוכרחים לבטלו, לפי דעת רבנים שונים.

האסור הזה נגע עמוקות בלבבות אלפי יהודי הבלקן המתגוררים בעירנו, גרם להם כאב עמוק, ביחוד שהמנהג הזה קודש על ידי הרבנים המפורסמים שבשלוניקי והיווה חלק מחיינו המסורתיים.

הרב עובדיה יוסף הסתמך על הרמב"ם ואחרים, בעוד שגם האשכנזים שהולכים אחרי הרמ"א נוהגים שהנשים מברכות וממשיכים במנהגם.

קבלתי מכתבך מיום כ"ה בתשרי ש"ז בענין מנהג הנשים שמברכות על הלולב, וקטע בענין זה מעתון בלדינו שאיני מבין, ולא ראיתי צורך לבקש שיתרגמו לי הדברים, כי יש להניח שהם מעין מה שכתבת במכתבך. ואענה בקיצור:

מנהג זה שהנשים מברכות על הלולב נהוג בהרבה מקומות וסומכים על שיטת ר"ת ואשר עמו , אע"פ שאין כך דעת הרמב"ם והש"ע , ומשום כך יש שערערו עליו. אמנם הגאון חיד"א בספרו ברכי יוסף (סי' תרנ"ד) תחילה ערער גם הוא על המנהג, אבל כשראה אחר כך בשו"ת מן השמים לרבינו יעקב ממרויש אחד מהקדמונים ששאל על מנהגן זה והשיבו לו מן השמים שיפה כחן של הנשים וטוב עושין שמברכין, חזר הוא עצמו להורות לנשים שיברכו. וכתב דאלו ראה מרן בעל הש"ע התשובה מן השמים שמסיעין לנשים לברך היה פוסק גם הוא כן, ע"ש בברכי יוסף ובשיורי ברכה (דפוס שאלוניקי סי' תקפ"ט) וביוסף אומץ (סי' פ"ב) וכן נקטו עוד אחרונים. ועיין בספר זכור לאברהם להרב אברהם בן ר' שמואל אלקלעי, בן דורו של החיד"א, מערכת ברכות אות נ' שכתב גם הוא שאין לערער על הנשים שמברכין על הלולב אע"פ שיש מחלוקת בזה, הואיל ונהגו, במקום מנהג לא אמרינן ספק ברכות להקל, ע"ש ודי בזה¹⁵⁰. ויהי מכירך ברוך¹⁵¹.
