בהיות כב' בביתי בירושלים שאלני אודות התמיהה, לכאורה, על נקוד האות ח' במלה תרצח שבעשרת הדברות.

עיינתי בשאלה זו ומצאתי שהדבר קשור בקריאת התורה בצבור, בשבת. מסורת היא בישראל לקרוא את עשרת הדברות בטעמים מיוחדים הנקראים, "הטעם העליון". לפי טעמים אלה יש לנקד את ההברה האחרונה של המלה תרצח בתנועה גדולה, דהיינו, בקמץ במקום פתח, בהתאם לכללי הדקדוק העברי.

הואיל והתנכי"ם בשוק נוהגים להשתמש בהם לשם לימוד וגם לשם קריאת התורה בצבור, ביקשו המוציאים לאור לתת את שני הנקודים, מי בפתח קודם ומי בקמץ קודם, ומחמת שאין המקום שמתחת לאות צ' מכיל את שני הנקודים הללו וגם את הטעם הרגיל שיש לאות זו (טרחא), היה הכרח להניח את הנקוד השני מתחת לאות ח'. ואמנם, יש תנכי"ם שבהם הקמץ והפתח מצויים תחת האות צ' אולם עם סטיה קטנה לשמאל ולימין.

בהוצאות ידועות של חומשים, הודפסו הדברות ליחוד בסוף הספר, לשם קריאת התורה, ולכן הופרדו הקמץ והפתח. בטכסט הרגיל מנוקדת האות צ' בפתח ואילו בטכסט המיוחד מנוקדת בקמץ.

בחומשים הנקראים בשם "תקון סופרים", והם מיועדים לקוראי התורה בצבור בלבד, מנוקדת האות צ' אך ורק בקמץ.
