קיבלתי את מכתב כת"ר מיום כ"ז בניסן ש"ז, בו שאל מה לעשות בבני תערובת כשהאם יהודיה, אם כדאי לחייבם להתגייר, אע"פ שאינם צריכים, כדי לגדור הפירצה.

וזאת תשובתי: אין אני רואה שאפשר לחייב אותם בגירות ולעלות לא"י בשביל זה. מאחר שידוע לכל בר בי רב שאינם צריכים גירות³⁹, ימצאו שיקוממו אותם נגד כת"ר ולא יוכל לעמוד בזה. וכן קרה אצלנו: הרה"ג ר' שלמה ילוז שליט"א, אב"ד באשדוד, חייב בן אם יהודיה בטבילה ודן אותו כמומר לפי שגדל והתחנך בבית הוריו. בגלל זה הותקף ע"י כמה דיינים בחריפות.
