הננו מטפלים בענין דחוף של עגונא דאתתא קשה, שבעלה נמצא בבחרין שעל חוף המפרץ הפרסי במקום הנקרא מנמה (Manama) ואילו האשה גרה כאן בלונדון, ואנו מטכסים עצה אולי יעלה בידינו לסדר כתיבת גט פטורין שם בבחרין.

משום כך היינו מודים מאוד למרן הרה"ג אם היו בידו לברר ולהודיענו אם אמנם הי' צבור יהודי אי־שם ואם כתבו שם גטין, ואם כן איך היו כותבין את שם העיר ואם יש שם נהרות או מעיינות ובארות להזכירם בגט. ואם לפי הידיעות בידם אפשר עוד למצוא שם אי־אלו יהודים שומרי מצוה לעדים כשרים וכיוצא.

מכתב הדר"ג מיום ט"ו באייר ש.ז. הגיעני וביקשתי לברר את השאלות הכלולות בו מבני המחוז ההוא שנמצאים בארה"ק ולכן נתעכבה תשובתי.

הזמנתי אלי אנשים מבני המקומות הקרובים לבחרין ולא יכולתי להציל מפיהם דבר מבוסס. מה שעלה בידי להבין הוא שתמיד היה בבחרין ישוב יהודי קטן וכפי הנראה גם כיום. לפי דבריו של חבר ביה"ד הרבני הגדול הרב סלימאן חוגי עבודי שליט"א, שהיה לפנים ראש בית־הדין ליהודי בגדד, לא בתקופת כהונתו ולא בתקופת כהונת קודמיו לא סודר גט בבחרין, אלא כפי הנראה בערים הסמוכות. הוא סבור שלוא היו מסדרים בבחרין גטין כי אז הדבר היה בידיעת ביה"ד של בגדד, כי ע"פ הרוב היו כל בני המחוז נמלכים בבי"ד זה. הרב עבודי מציין ששם המקום המדוייק הוא בחרין, שכן זוהי מילה ערבית (בחר – ים) ומשמעותה שני ימים.

באשר לשאלה אם יש בבחרין נהרות, מעיינות או בארות, לא יכולתי להסיק דבר ברור ומבוסס בענין זה. גם לא יכולתי לברר אם ישנם במקום יהודים שומרי תורה ומצוות.
