יש אומרים שבשלושת הימים הראשונים למילה יש חשש סכנה, ולכן אין מלין לא ביום חמישי ולא ביום ששי כדי שלא יצטרכו לחלל השבת. ויש אומרים שאין חשש סכנה אלא ביום השלישי ולכן לא מלים ביום חמישי אבל מלין ביום ששי. אחרים אומרים שמשום מצוות מילה סומכים ומלין בכל ששת ימי המעשה לרבות חמישי וששי.

מרן ה"בית יוסף" ב"בדק הבית" סי' רס"ה⁷⁴ כתב בשם התשב"ץ⁷⁵ שאין מלין ביום חמישי אבל מלין ביום ששי. בעל "שפתי כהן" באותו סימן⁷⁶ כתב שמלין ביום חמישי וביום ששי. לעומתם הכנה"ג⁷⁷ והחיד"א כתבו שאין מלין לא בחמישי ולא בששי.
