נא יורנו מורינו בדין הלכה: בדידי עובדא, רחוק ממעכת"ר ומבני ביתו, אני אבל תוך י"ב חודש על אמי ז"ל. ובתי צריכה להתחתן אחרי ג' חדשים לפטירתה. ושואל ממעכת"ר האם אני יכול להופיע בליל החופה ולהשאר על יד בתי גם בזמן הסעודה שתיערך באותו ערב, או לא? ומפני שרצוני להתלות באילן גדול, לכן פניתי לכת"ר בנדון: אנא להיעתר לבקשתי זאת. היות ויש חלוקי דעות ביני לבין אשתי על כך. רציתי פסק הלכה ברורה למעשה, וממעכת"ר "הסליחה".

במקרה כגון דא, המהרשד"ם¹²⁹ מצדד להתיר אם העדרו מן הסעודה יגרום צער ועגמת נפש לכלה. והחיד"א ב"שיורי ברכה", סימן שצ"א, ב', כותב בשם המהריק"ש¹³⁰:"הקרובים לחתן או לכלה נוהגים במצרים לאכול בבית החופה תוך י"ב חודש של אב ואם ואחר שלושים", ומדבריו נראה שדין זה תלוי גם במנהג.

מכל מקום אם לא תוכל לעמוד בכך ולא להשתתף בסעודה כי תרגיש שאי הופעתך בצד הכלה תגרום לה צער רב, תוכל להשתתף בחלק הסעודה¹³¹.

והיות והקפידה היא משום כבוד אב ואם, תוכל, על אותו הזמן שתשתתף בסעודה, לשלם כבוד לאמך ז"ל בלמוד משנה באותו הלילה או תהילים למחרת, ובנוסף על הרגלך ללמוד כל יום לנשמת אמך.
