בימים הקרובים הופיע איש אחד מעולי מצרים, סומא הוא מב' עיניו. חברי הועד, טרם התייעצותם עם ועד הדתי, החליטו ומינו אותו לשליח ציבור קבוע במקום שליחי ציבור הוותיקים הנז"ל אשר הם עומדים להמשיך לכהן על מנת שלא לקבל פרס. אבל החברים סומכים על מה שכתב מר"ן ז"ל בש"ע סי' נ"ג סעי' יד "הסומא יורד לפני התיבה". אמנם ממה שכתוב בספר כף החיים ס"ק ס"ד וס"ה על סימן נ"ג הנז', אשר הביא דעות שונות מספר הזוהר ומדברי הפוסקים האחרונים, יכולנו לדיין כי דעת מר"ן והרמב"ם הוא שייך רק לשעת הדחק.
