צַ֞ו אֶת־בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל וְיִקְח֨וּ אֵלֶ֜יךָ שֶׁ֣מֶן זַ֥יִת זָ֛ךְ כָּתִ֖ית לַמָּא֑וֹר לְהַעֲלֹ֥ת נֵ֖ר תָּמִֽיד׃

Command Bnei Yisroel to take (bring) to you pure, pressed, olive oil for illumination to keep the lamp burning constantly.

**The Koren Jerusalem Bible:**
Command the children of Yisra᾽el, that they bring to thee pure oil olive beaten for the light, to cause the lamps to burn continually.

**The Rashi chumash by Rabbi Shraga Silverstein:**
Command the children of Israel that they bring to you clear olive oil [(the first of the three oils issuing from the olive)], (the olives), crushed for illumination, to raise a light continually [(from night to night, like the "continual" — from day to day — burnt-offering)]. [This is the section of the mitzvah of the lamps. Exodus 27:20 (in this connection) is to be understood as: "And you are destined to command, etc." (the actual command taking place here.) It is mentioned there, in connection with the account of the construction of the tabernacle, only to explain the function of the menorah.]

מִחוּץ֩ לְפָרֹ֨כֶת הָעֵדֻ֜ת בְּאֹ֣הֶל מוֹעֵ֗ד יַעֲרֹךְ֩ אֹת֨וֹ אַהֲרֹ֜ן מֵעֶ֧רֶב עַד־בֹּ֛קֶר לִפְנֵ֥י יְהֹוָ֖ה תָּמִ֑יד חֻקַּ֥ת עוֹלָ֖ם לְדֹרֹֽתֵיכֶֽם׃

Outside of the Curtain of the Testimony, which is inside the Tent of Meeting, Aharon shall arrange it [so that it burns] from evening until morning before Adonoy, continually; as an everlasting statute throughout your generations.

Outside the veil of the Testimony, in the Tent of Meeting, shall Aharon order it from evening unto morning before the Lord continually: it shall be a statute for ever in your generations.

Atop the pure menorah he shall arrange the lights before Adonoy, constantly.

You shall take fine flour and bake twelve loaves, each individual loaf shall be two tenths [of an *ephah*].

And thou shalt take fine flour, and bake of it twelve cakes: two tenth measures shall be in one cake.

###### Leviticus 24:6

###### Leviticus 24:7

וְנָתַתָּ֥ עַל־הַֽמַּעֲרֶ֖כֶת לְבֹנָ֣ה זַכָּ֑ה וְהָיְתָ֤ה לַלֶּ֙חֶם֙ לְאַזְכָּרָ֔ה אִשֶּׁ֖ה לַֽיהֹוָֽה׃

You shall put pure frankincense on [each] stack and it shall be as a memorial portion for the bread, as a fire-offering, to Adonoy.

And thou shalt put pure frankincense upon each row, that it may be on the bread for a memorial, an offering made by fire to the Lord.

And you shall place upon the two [i.e., upon each of the two rows] pure frankincense [(On each of the two rows there were two cups of frankincense, a fistful in each)]. And it shall be a memorial for the bread [(For nothing of the bread was offered on high, but the incense was burned when they removed the bread each Sabbath. By the incense, then, the bread is "remembered" (in the same way that the fistful is a "memorial" for the meal-offering)], a fire-offering to the L-rd.

בְּי֨וֹם הַשַּׁבָּ֜ת בְּי֣וֹם הַשַּׁבָּ֗ת יַֽעַרְכֶ֛נּוּ לִפְנֵ֥י יְהֹוָ֖ה תָּמִ֑יד מֵאֵ֥ת בְּנֵֽי־יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל בְּרִ֥ית עוֹלָֽם׃

On each and every *Shabbos* he shall arrange them before Adonoy, continually, from Bnei Yisroel as an eternal covenant.

Every sabbath he shall set it in order before the Lord continually, an everlasting covenant from the children of Yisra᾽el.

On the day of Sabbath, on the day of Sabbath, he shall arrange it before the L-rd always; from the children of Israel, an everlasting covenant.


###### Leviticus 24:9

וְהָֽיְתָה֙ לְאַהֲרֹ֣ן וּלְבָנָ֔יו וַאֲכָלֻ֖הוּ בְּמָק֣וֹם קָדֹ֑שׁ כִּ֡י קֹ֩דֶשׁ֩ קׇֽדָשִׁ֨ים ה֥וּא ל֛וֹ מֵאִשֵּׁ֥י יְהֹוָ֖ה חׇק־עוֹלָֽם׃{ס}

It shall belong to Aharon and to his sons and they shall eat it in a sacred place, for it is most holy for him from among the fire-offerings of Adonoy, as an everlasting statute.

And it shall be Aharon’s and his sons’; and they shall eat it in the holy place: for it is most holy to him of the offerings of the Lord made by fire by a perpetual due.

And it [this meal-offering (everything coming from grain being in the category of "meal-offering")] shall be for Aaron and for his sons. And they shall eat it [the bread] in a holy place, for holy of holies is it to him, of the fire-offerings of the L-rd, an everlasting statute.

וַיֵּצֵא֙ בֶּן־אִשָּׁ֣ה יִשְׂרְאֵלִ֔ית וְהוּא֙ בֶּן־אִ֣ישׁ מִצְרִ֔י בְּת֖וֹךְ בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וַיִּנָּצוּ֙ בַּֽמַּחֲנֶ֔ה בֶּ֚ן הַיִּשְׂרְאֵלִ֔ית וְאִ֖ישׁ הַיִּשְׂרְאֵלִֽי׃

The son of an Israelite woman went out, and he was the son of an Egyptian man, among Bnei Yisroel. They argued in the encampment—the son of the Israelite woman, and the Israelite man.

And the son of a Yisra᾽elite woman, whose father was a Miżrian man, went out among the children of Yisra᾽el: and this son of the Yisra᾽elite woman and a man of Yisra᾽el strove together in the camp;

And there went out the son of an Israelite woman, and he was the son of an Egyptian man, [the one slain by Moses (Exodus 2:11-12)], in the midst of the children of Israel [(He had become a proselyte)], and they strove in the camp [i.e., regarding matters of the camp], the son of the Israelite woman and the Israelite man [who opposed him].

וַ֠יִּקֹּ֠ב בֶּן־הָֽאִשָּׁ֨ה הַיִּשְׂרְאֵלִ֤ית אֶת־הַשֵּׁם֙ וַיְקַלֵּ֔ל וַיָּבִ֥יאוּ אֹת֖וֹ אֶל־מֹשֶׁ֑ה וְשֵׁ֥ם אִמּ֛וֹ שְׁלֹמִ֥ית בַּת־דִּבְרִ֖י לְמַטֵּה־דָֽן׃

The Israelite womans son clearly pronounced the Name [of God] and blasphemed and they brought him to Moshe. The name of his mother was Shlomis, daughter of Divri of the tribe of Dan.

and the Yisra᾽elite woman’s son blasphemed the name of the Lord, and cursed. And they brought him to Moshe: (and his mother’s name was Shelomit, the daughter of Divri, of the tribe of Dan: )

And the name of his mother was Shlomith [(She said "Shalom," promiscuously, to all)] the daughter of Divri [(She was a "prattler" (dabranith), speaking indiscriminately to all men)], of the tribe of Dan [(an encomium to Israel — she alone went astray)]

וַיַּנִּיחֻ֖הוּ בַּמִּשְׁמָ֑ר לִפְרֹ֥שׁ לָהֶ֖ם עַל־פִּ֥י יְהֹוָֽה׃{פ}

They placed him in the guardhouse until [his penalty] would be explained to them through the word of Adonoy.

and they put him in custody, that the mind of the Lord might be shown them.

###### Leviticus 24:14

הוֹצֵ֣א אֶת־הַֽמְקַלֵּ֗ל אֶל־מִחוּץ֙ לַֽמַּחֲנֶ֔ה וְסָמְכ֧וּ כׇֽל־הַשֹּׁמְעִ֛ים אֶת־יְדֵיהֶ֖ם עַל־רֹאשׁ֑וֹ וְרָגְמ֥וּ אֹת֖וֹ כׇּל־הָעֵדָֽה׃

Take the blasphemer beyond the encampment, and all those who heard him shall lay their hands on his head and the entire congregation shall stone him.

Bring forth him that has cursed outside the camp; and let all that heard him lay their hands upon his head, and let all the congregation stone him.

Take the curser outside the camp, and let all [(including the judges)], who heard [(These are the witnesses)] place their hands on his head [(They say to him: Your blood is on your own head, and not upon us; you brought it upon yourself)], and let all the congregation stone him [i.e., let him be stoned in the presence of the entire congregation (whence it is derived that one's emissary is like himself)].


###### Leviticus 24:15

And to Bnei Yisroel you shall speak, saying; Any person who shall blaspheme his God shall bear [the burden of] his sin.

וְנֹקֵ֤ב שֵׁם־יְהֹוָה֙ מ֣וֹת יוּמָ֔ת רָג֥וֹם יִרְגְּמוּ־ב֖וֹ כׇּל־הָעֵדָ֑ה כַּגֵּר֙ כָּֽאֶזְרָ֔ח בְּנׇקְבוֹ־שֵׁ֖ם יוּמָֽת׃

Whoever pronounces clearly the Name of Adonoy [and blasphemes] he will surely be put to death. The entire congregation shall surely stone him. The proselyte and native born alike when he clearly articulates the Name, shall be put to death.

And he who blasphemes the name of the Lord, shall surely be put to death, and all the congregation shall certainly stone him: both the stranger, and he that is born in the land, when he blasphemes the name of the Lord, shall be put to death.

And one who indites the Name of the L-rd [the Tetragrammaton (but not an epithet)] shall be put to death. All the congregation shall stone him. Proselyte, like born-Jew — if he indites the Name he shall die.

וְאִ֕ישׁ כִּ֥י יַכֶּ֖ה כׇּל־נֶ֣פֶשׁ אָדָ֑ם מ֖וֹת יוּמָֽת׃

Any man who kills any human being must surely be put to death.

Whoever kills an animal shall pay for it, [the compensation of] an animal for an animal.

And he that kills a beast shall make it good; beast for beast.

A man who maims his neighbor just as he did, so shall be done to him.

שֶׁ֚בֶר תַּ֣חַת שֶׁ֔בֶר עַ֚יִן תַּ֣חַת עַ֔יִן שֵׁ֖ן תַּ֣חַת שֵׁ֑ן כַּאֲשֶׁ֨ר יִתֵּ֥ן מוּם֙ בָּֽאָדָ֔ם כֵּ֖ן יִנָּ֥תֶן בּֽוֹ׃

[Compensation for] a broken bone [in exchange] for a broken bone, [compen-sation for] the loss of an eye [in exchange] for the loss of an eye, [compensation for] the loss to a tooth [in exchange] for the loss of a tooth; just as he maimed the man, so shall it be done to him [monetarily].

breach for breach, eye for eye, tooth for tooth: as he has maimed a man, so shall it be done to him.

A breaking for a breaking, an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth — as he gives an injury to a man, so shall it [money] be given by him [in compensation for the injury. He (the injured one) is assessed as a slave (and he is given the difference between the value of a slave with this injury and one without it)].

וּמַכֵּ֥ה בְהֵמָ֖ה יְשַׁלְּמֶ֑נָּה וּמַכֵּ֥ה אָדָ֖ם יוּמָֽת׃

Whoever smites an animal shall pay for it. Whoever smites a person shall be put to death.

And he that kills a beast, he shall restore it: and he that kills a man, he shall be put to death.

And one who strikes [i.e., wounds] a beast shall make compensation for it. And one who strikes [i.e., wounds] a man [i.e., his parent, (when he is alive, comparable to "beast")] shall be put to death.

מִשְׁפַּ֤ט אֶחָד֙ יִהְיֶ֣ה לָכֶ֔ם כַּגֵּ֥ר כָּאֶזְרָ֖ח יִהְיֶ֑ה כִּ֛י אֲנִ֥י יְהֹוָ֖ה אֱלֹהֵיכֶֽם׃

One rule shall apply for all of you just as it is for the proselyte, so it shall be for the native born, for I am Adonoy, your God.

You shall have one manner of law, as well for the stranger, as for one of your own country: for I am the Lord your God.

One judgment shall there be for you; for proselyte as for born-Jew shall it be, for I am the L-rd your G-d [— the G-d of all of you. Just as I unite My name with you, so do I unite it with the proselytes].

Moshe spoke to Bnei Yisroel and they took the blasphemer, beyond the encampment and they stoned him with a stone. And Bnei Yisroel did just as Adonoy commanded Moshe.

And Moshe spoke to the children of Yisra᾽el, and they brought him that had cursed out of the camp, and stoned him with stones. And the children of Yisra᾽el did as the Lord commanded Moshe.
