דַּבֵּ֞ר אֶל־בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵל֮ לֵאמֹר֒ נֶ֗פֶשׁ כִּֽי־תֶחֱטָ֤א בִשְׁגָגָה֙ מִכֹּל֙ מִצְוֺ֣ת יְהֹוָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֖ר לֹ֣א תֵעָשֶׂ֑ינָה וְעָשָׂ֕ה מֵאַחַ֖ת מֵהֵֽנָּה׃

Speak to Bnei Yisroel, saying; if a person unwittingly transgresses any commandment of Adonoy which should not be done and commits one of these sins.

Speak to the children of Yisra᾽el saying, If a soul shall sin through ignorance against any of the commandments of the Lord concerning things which ought not to be done, and shall do against any of them:

אִ֣ם הַכֹּהֵ֧ן הַמָּשִׁ֛יחַ יֶחֱטָ֖א לְאַשְׁמַ֣ת הָעָ֑ם וְהִקְרִ֡יב עַ֣ל חַטָּאתוֹ֩ אֲשֶׁ֨ר חָטָ֜א פַּ֣ר בֶּן־בָּקָ֥ר תָּמִ֛ים לַיהֹוָ֖ה לְחַטָּֽאת׃

If the anointed *kohein* should sin to bring guilt on the people, he shall bring for his sin which he committed a young, unblemished bullock to Adonoy, as a sin-offering.

if the priest that is anointed do sin to bring guiltiness on the people; then let him bring for his sin, which he has sinned, a young bullock without blemish to the Lord for a sin offering.

If the anointed Cohein shall sin to the guilt of the people [(If the high-priest sins, it is "to the guilt of the people," for they depend upon him to atone for them and to pray for them)], then he shall offer for his sin which he has sinned a young bullock [three years old], unblemished, to the L-rd, as a sin-offering.

He shall bring the bullock to the entrance of the Tent of Meeting before Adonoy. He shall lay his hand on the head of the bullock and slaughter the bullock before Adonoy.

###### Leviticus 4:5

וְלָקַ֛ח הַכֹּהֵ֥ן הַמָּשִׁ֖יחַ מִדַּ֣ם הַפָּ֑ר וְהֵבִ֥יא אֹת֖וֹ אֶל־אֹ֥הֶל מוֹעֵֽד׃

The anointed *kohein* shall take some of the bullocks blood and bring it inside the Tent of Meeting.

The *kohein* shall dip his finger into the blood and he shall sprinkle from the blood seven times, before Adonoy, in front of the Holy Curtain.

and the priest shall dip his finger in the blood, and sprinkle of the blood seven times before the Lord, before the veil of the sanctuary.

And the Cohein shall dip his finger into the blood, and he shall sprinkle from the blood seven times before the L-rd, before the parocheth of the holiness [i.e., in alignment between the staves of the ark. Though the high-priest has sinned, its holiness still inheres in it (see 17)].

The *kohein* shall put from the blood atop the corners of the spice-burning altar before Adonoy, which is inside the Tent of Meeting. He shall spill all the [remaining] bullocks blood into the base of the altar of the burnt-offering, which is at the entrance of the Tent of Meeting.

And the priest shall put some of the blood upon the horns of the altar of sweet incense before the Lord, which is in the Tent of Meeting: and shall pour all the blood of the bullock at the bottom of the altar of the burnt offering, which is at the door of the Tent of Meeting.

And the Cohein shall put of the blood on the horns of the altar of the smoking of the incense before the L-rd, which is in the tent of meeting; and all the [remaining] blood of the bullock he shall pour at the base of the altar of the burnt-offering, which is at the door of the tent of meeting.

All the fat of the sin-offering bullock he shall separate from it; the fat covering the innards, all the fat on the innards,

And all the fat of the bullock [(The Yom Kippur bullock is hereby included)] of the sin-offering [(This includes the "idolatry goats" as subject to the burning of kidneys, fats, and lobe)] he shall take from it [(before dismembering it)]: the fat which covers the innards and all the fat which is on the innards.

the two kidneys and the fat on them that are on the flanks. The lobe on the liver, he shall remove together with the kidneys,

and the two kidneys, and the fat that is upon them, which is by the flanks, and the appendage of the liver, with the kidneys, it shall he take away,

###### Leviticus 4:10

כַּאֲשֶׁ֣ר יוּרַ֔ם מִשּׁ֖וֹר זֶ֣בַח הַשְּׁלָמִ֑ים וְהִקְטִירָם֙ הַכֹּהֵ֔ן עַ֖ל מִזְבַּ֥ח הָעֹלָֽה׃

in the same manner as they were separated from the ox of the peace-offering. The *kohein* shall burn them on the altar of the burnt-offering.

as it was taken off from the bullock of the peace offering: and the priest shall burn them upon the altar of the burnt offering.

As it is removed from the ox of the sacrifice of the peace-offerings [(Just as peace-offerings must be intended as such (lishmah), so this requires lishmah; and just as peace-offerings bring peace to the world, so does this)], and the Cohein shall smoke them on the altar of the burnt-offering.

וְהוֹצִ֣יא אֶת־כׇּל־הַ֠פָּ֠ר אֶל־מִח֨וּץ לַֽמַּחֲנֶ֜ה אֶל־מָק֤וֹם טָהוֹר֙ אֶל־שֶׁ֣פֶךְ הַדֶּ֔שֶׁן וְשָׂרַ֥ף אֹת֛וֹ עַל־עֵצִ֖ים בָּאֵ֑שׁ עַל־שֶׁ֥פֶךְ הַדֶּ֖שֶׁן יִשָּׂרֵֽף׃{פ}

He shall take out the entire bullock beyond the encampment, to a pure [undefiled] place, where the ashes are thrown and burn it on logs, in a fire. It shall be burned where the ashes are thrown.

even the whole bullock shall he carry forth outside the camp to a clean place, where the ashes are poured out, and burn it on the wood with fire: where the ashes are poured out shall it be burnt.

And he shall take the entire bullock outside the camp [outside the three camps (and, in the Temple, outside the city)] to a clean place, where the ashes [from the altar] are poured out; and he shall burn it on wood with fire. וְאִ֨ם כׇּל־עֲדַ֤ת יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ יִשְׁגּ֔וּ וְנֶעְלַ֣ם דָּבָ֔ר מֵעֵינֵ֖י הַקָּהָ֑ל וְ֠עָשׂ֠וּ אַחַ֨ת מִכׇּל־מִצְוֺ֧ת יְהֹוָ֛ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר לֹא־תֵעָשֶׂ֖ינָה וְאָשֵֽׁמוּ׃

If the entire congregation of Yisroel erred and the matter [that error] was concealed from the eyes of the community, and they did [transgress] one of the commandments of Adonoy that should not be done, they incur guilt.

And if the whole congregation of Yisra᾽el sin through ignorance, and the thing be hid from the eyes of the assembly, and they have done something against any of the commandments of the Lord concerning things which should not be done, and have incurred guilt;

וְנֽוֹדְעָה֙ הַֽחַטָּ֔את אֲשֶׁ֥ר חָטְא֖וּ עָלֶ֑יהָ וְהִקְרִ֨יבוּ הַקָּהָ֜ל פַּ֤ר בֶּן־בָּקָר֙ לְחַטָּ֔את וְהֵבִ֣יאוּ אֹת֔וֹ לִפְנֵ֖י אֹ֥הֶל מוֹעֵֽד׃

[When] they realize the sin which they committed, the community shall bring a young bullock as a sin-offering and they shall bring it to the front of the Tent of Meeting.

when the sin, which they have sinned, is known, then the congregation shall offer a young bullock for the sin, and bring it before the Tent of Meeting.

The elders of the congregation shall lay their hands on the head of the bullock, before Adonoy and he shall slaughter the bullock before Adonoy.

He shall remove all its fat from it and burn it on the altar.

He shall do to the bullock [the same] as he did to the sin-offering bullock, so he shall do to it. The *kohein* will atone for them and they will be pardoned.

And he shall do with the bullock as he did with the bullock for a sin offering, so shall he do with this: and the priest shall make atonement for them, and it shall be forgiven them.

וְהוֹצִ֣יא אֶת־הַפָּ֗ר אֶל־מִחוּץ֙ לַֽמַּחֲנֶ֔ה וְשָׂרַ֣ף אֹת֔וֹ כַּאֲשֶׁ֣ר שָׂרַ֔ף אֵ֖ת הַפָּ֣ר הָרִאשׁ֑וֹן חַטַּ֥את הַקָּהָ֖ל הֽוּא׃{פ}

He shall take the bullock outside, beyond the encampment, and burn it in the same manner as he burned the first bullock; it is a communal sin-offering.

אֲשֶׁ֥ר נָשִׂ֖יא יֶֽחֱטָ֑א וְעָשָׂ֡ה אַחַ֣ת מִכׇּל־מִצְוֺת֩ יְהֹוָ֨ה אֱלֹהָ֜יו אֲשֶׁ֧ר לֹא־תֵעָשֶׂ֛ינָה בִּשְׁגָגָ֖ה וְאָשֵֽׁם׃

If a leader sins, [who] transgresses one of the commandments of Adonoy, his God, that should not be done, [if he transgressed] unwittingly and incurs guilt.

When a ruler has sinned, and done something through ignorance against any one of the commandments of the Lord his God concerning things which should not be done, and has incurred guilt;
