עָנָה וְאָמַר: הִנֵּה אֲכִילָה, עַל־כָּל־פָּנִים נִתּוֹסֵף לְהָאָדָם כֹּחַ וְחִיּוּת עַל־יְדֵי־זֶה, אֲבָל זֹאת הַתַּאֲוָה, הֲלֹא אַדְּרַבָּא, הִיא מַפְסֶדֶת וּמַזֶּקֶת הַחִיּוּת מְאֹד וּמַתֶּשֶׁת כֹּחוֹ שֶׁל אָדָם מְאֹד, בְּוַדַּאי אֵין צְרִיכִין אוֹתָהּ כְּלָל, כִּי־אִם בִּשְׁבִיל קִיּוּם הַמִּין לְבַד:

He stated emphatically: See, eating at least provides a person with additional energy and vitality. This desire, however, does just the opposite. It greatly diminishes and damages vitality, and seriously weakens a person’s strength. Other than for procreation, we certainly have no need for it whatsoever.
