ולפעמים יכתב פעל מיותר לגלות שהשם שנאמר בתחילה בלשון רבים אינו דוקא.

**Ayelet Hashachar, translated by Betzalel Avraham Feinstein, 2021:**
And sometimes it will write a superfluous verb to reveal that the noun that is said at the beginning in plural does not mean *precisely*:

כמו שכתב "והקריבו" מיותר לגלות שדי בפרידה אחת (ויקרא ס' עז, תזריע ס' כז).

**Ayelet Hashachar, translated by Betzalel Avraham Feinstein, 2021:**
As when it says והקריבו (shall offer/bring it)³⁷⁹, it is superfluous, in order to reveal that one dove or pigeon is enough.

וכן כתוב "שרץ טמא" מיותר ללמד שעליו מוסב פעל 'ונעלם' שהוא לשון זכר (ויקרא ס' שג)

**Ayelet Hashachar, translated by Betzalel Avraham Feinstein, 2021:**
And moreover, when it is written שרץ טמא (unclean swarming things)³⁸⁰, it is superfluous, to teach that the verb ונעלם (hidden) is referring to it, since it comes in masculine.

*Leviticus 1:14-15 says,*ואם מן העוף עלה קרבנו ליהוה והקריב מן התרים או מן בני היונה את קרבנו. והקריבו הכהן אל המזבח ומלק את ראשו והקטיר המזבחה ונמצה דמו על קיר המזבח*(And if his offering to the LORD be a burnt-offering of fowls, then he shall bring his offering of turtle-doves, or of young pigeons. And the priest shall bring it to the altar, and pinch off its head, and make it smoke on the altar; and the blood thereof shall be drained out on the side of the altar).*

*And Leviticus 12:6-7 says,*ובמלאת ימי טהרה לבן או לבת תביא כבש בן שנתו לעלה ובן יונה או תר לחטאת אל פתח אהל מועד אל הכהן. והקריבו לפני יהוה וכפר עליה וטהרה ממקר דמיה זאת תורת הילדת לזכר או לנקבה*(And when the days of her purification are fulfilled, for a son, or for a daughter, she shall bring a lamb of the first year for a burnt-offering, and a young pigeon, or a turtle-dove, for a sin-offering, to the door of the tent of meeting, to the priest. And he shall offer it before the LORD, and make atonement for her; and she shall be cleansed from the fountain of her blood. This is the law for her that bears, whether a male or a female).*

*Both verses use the word*והקריבו*for “bring it/offer it”. The pronoun “it” is singular, which indicates that one dove or pigeon is enough.*

*Leviticus 5:2 says,*או נפש אשר תגע בכל דבר טמא או בנבלת חיה טמאה או בנבלת בהמה טמאה או בנבלת שרץ טמא ונעלם ממנו והוא טמא ואשם*(or if any one touch any unclean thing, whether it be the carcass of an unclean beast, or the carcass of unclean cattle, or the carcass of unclean swarming things, and be guilty, it being hidden from him that he is unclean), using the superfluous noun phrase שרץ טמא (unclean swarming things). It is there to teach that the phrase*ונעלם ממנו*“it being hidden from him” is referring to it exclusively, since the verb ונעלם (hidden) comes in masculine and the noun phrase שרץ טמא comes in masculine, while the noun phrases “carcass of an unclean beast” and “carcass of unclean cattle” come in feminine³⁸¹.*
