מחילת העון ידובר בלשונות הרבה. ויש הבדל בין לשון "**סליחה**" ליתר הלשונות.

Forgiveness of sin can be said in many ways. And there is a difference between the language **סליחה** (forgiveness) and other ways of saying it:

שלשון 'סליחה' מורה שמעביר החטא כאילו לא היה במציאות כלל.

The language סליחה teaches that the sin has passed as if it never was a reality at all.

מה שאין כן בלשונות "**מעביר עון**" – עדיין ישנו במקום אחר; וכן "**נושא עון**" – ה' נושאו; "**תם עונך**" – היה לו מציאות בזמן עבר.

On the contrary, with the words **מעביר עון** (removes the iniquity) – it is still in a different place; and moreover **נושא עון** (pardons the iniquity) – God carries it; **תם עונך** (The punishment of your iniquity is accomplished)⁶³⁸ – it was a reality in the past.

אבל העון הנסלח דומה כאילו לא היה לו מציאות כלל.

But העון הנסלח is as if the sin never existed at all.

ולכן לא תמצא לשון 'סליחה' מאדם לאדם, כי אין האדם יכול ע"ז לעשות דבר שהיה כאילו לא היה. (ויקרא ס' רעז)

And thus, the language סליחה is never found from man to man, because a man is not able to forgive a person in such a way, as if the sin never existed.
