שם **שרץ** בא על התנועה, ויקראו בשם זה הבעלי חיים הפחותים שאין מובדלים מן הצומח רק בתנועתם.

The noun **שרץ** (swarming thing) refers to the movement, and the inferior living creatures which are called by this name are only distinguished from plants through their movement.

אולם הפעל "**שוֹרֵץ**" בא על ההולדה היתירה (שמיני סימן פ, וסימן קסה), ולכן הוסיף "השרץ השורץ על הארץ" – רוצה לומר הפרה ורבה שם (שמיני ס' קט). מה שאין כן במה שכתב "השרץ הרומש על הארץ", היינו אף על פי שאינו פרה ורבה (שמיני ס' קסט)

However, the verb **שוֹרֵץ** (swarm) refers to excessive procreation, and thus it addsהשרץ השורץ על הארץ (swarming thing that swarms upon the earth)⁶⁸⁹ – it means to say that it fertilizes and increases there. On the contrary, when it is written השרץ הרומש על הארץ (swarming thing that moves upon the earth)⁶⁹⁰, it means even if it does not fertilize and increase.
