והנה בכמה מקומות אמר ביום טוב "**כל מלאכת עבודה** לא תעשו", ובפרשת בא שאמר "**כל מלאכה** לא תעשו" הוצרך לפרט "אך אשר יאכל לכל נפש הוא לבדו יעשה לכם". ורק בפרשת ראה אמר גבי יום טוב "לא תעשה מלאכה" – אולם שם דייק ולא אמר "לא תעשה **כל מלאכה**" (כמו שכתב תמיד גבי שבת), רק 'מלאכה', ר"ל יש מלאכות אסורות כגון אותם שאינם לצורך אוכל נפש.

And in several places, it says regarding festivals, **כל מלאכת עבודה** לא תעשו (you shall do no manner of servile work), and when it says **כל מלאכה** לא תעשו (no manner of work shall be done in them)⁷³⁵, it needs to make an exception, אך אשר יאכל לכל נפש הוא לבדו יעשה לכם (save that which every man must eat, that only may be done by you)⁷³⁶. And only in Deuteronomy 16:8 does it say regarding festivals, לא תעשה מלאכה (you shall do no work) – however, there it is precise and it does not say לא תעשה **כל מלאכה** (you shall not do any manner of work) (as is always written regarding Sabbath), only מלאכה (manner of work). It means to say there are manners of work that are prohibited, for example those that are not done for the need of eating.

ויש טעם למה שינה שם ואמר 'מלאכה' והוא לתת הבדל בין יום טוב לחולו של מועד. ש"ביום השביעי עצרת לא תעשה מלאכה", ר"ל אף מלאכה קלה אם אינה לצורך אוכל נפש, ובחולו של מועד מותר מלאכה קלה לגמרי, וגם מלאכת עבודה לא נאסרו רק מקצתם. (אמור ס' קפז)

And there is a reason why it changes the noun and says מלאכה, and this is to give the difference between festivals and the weekdays of the festival. ביום השביעי עצרת לא תעשה מלאכה (in the seventh day is a holy convocation; you shall do no manner of servile work)⁷³⁷ - it means to say even light work that is not done for the sake of eating. And during the weekdays of a festival light work is completely permitted, and also servile work is only partially prohibited.
