ויש הבדל בין כשאומר "**בשנה השביעית** שבת שבתון" ובין כשאומר "**ובשביעית** יצא לחופשי", בלא מלת "שנה". שכל מקום שהוסיף המתואר "שנה", חשבינן לשנות עולם שהיא מראש השנה (קדושים ס' סה. בהר ס' ו, וסימן לח)

And there is a difference between when it says **בשנה השביעית** שבת שבתון (in the seventh year shall be a sabbath of solemn rest for the land)¹⁶⁰ and when it says **ובשביעית** יצא לחופשי (and in the seventh he shall go out free)¹⁶¹, without the word שנה (year): Any place where it adds the noun שנה, we count according to the Hebrew calendar, beginning on *Rosh Hashanah*.

*Exodus 21:2 says,*כי תקנה עבד עברי שש שנים יעבד ובשבעת יצא לחפשי חנם*(and in the seventh he shall go out free for nothing) without the noun שנה (year). Because of this, the years are counted according to the day in which the Hebrew servant was purchased.*

*Leviticus 25:4 says,*ובשנה השביעת שבת שבתון יהיה לארץ שבת ליהוה שדך לא תזרע וכרמך לא תזמר*(But in the seventh year shall be a sabbath of solemn rest for the land, a sabbath to the LORD). Because it says the word שנה, we count according to the Hebrew calendar, beginning on the first of the month of Tishrei, Rosh Hashanah.*
