יש הבדל בין "**ארבעים יכנו**" ובין "**שלש פעמים** תכה את ארם". ש'ארבעים יכנו' הוא בפעם אחת ו'שלש פעמים' הוא בפעמים מחולקים. (ויקרא ס' רכא)

**Ayelet Hashachar, translated by Betzalel Avraham Feinstein, 2021:**
There is a difference between**ארבעים יכנו** (forty stripes he may give him)¹⁶⁵ and **שלש פעמים** תכה את ארם (you shall smite Aram but three times)¹⁶⁶: ארבעים יכנו is all in one occurrence, while שלש פעמים is in three separate occurrences.
